I just hope Apple doesn't ruin it. They seem anti-normal in their ads. Nobody wants chicks calling college football games, as the Amazon geniuses apparently want to do.

That is how Apple can lose its wildly high brand name status. Just what JD and incorrigible point out. Stay tuned.

Check out this article on the clusterfook that is Google Wallet and see the graph of Apple dominance in this space despite Google's three year head start. The thing is, Google Wallet of 2011 was a very limited experiment that went nowhere so Google's "head start" almost irrelevant. Apple released the real thing—Apple Pay—in October 2014; Google released its competing "Android Pay" service in May 2015. But wow…I didn't realize that Apple Pay had such an overwhelming market share—92%! Thanks for the link, Ted

Intersting on the iPhone 14 excitement from the scalpers - this is a "tick" year vs. the three "tocks" aredesign right? - i.e. the notch phone has had a total of 3 iterations - I've also read the notch may be going away or at least being redesigned into a much smaller footprint - at any rate - I still have an iPhone XS max that will be 3 years old in Sept. and I'm planning on upgrading to a 14 when it comes out. Mostly will make sense for LTE, but the camera will be light years beyond 3 years' ago as well- not to mention processing power of course. The same sources in Asia who are paying for these reserves also have access to the same rumors or redesign I'm seeing of course take if for WIW - also it's interesting that the notch design cycle design has been a total of 4 years. www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-14/

This is what Apple has been doing for decades, in software and now in chips. Some upgrades focus mostly on performance or features. Some focus mostly on reliability/bug fixes or efficiency. For those with recent Apple Watches, are there performance things where you see a slowdown, where more power would help? My guess on the Watch is that the efficiency is a much bigger deal, trying to get longer battery life, especially while potentially adding other things that need power like more sensors or last year's always on screen. To me the more interesting point, if accurate, is keeping the same processor in the iPhone 14, while upgrading the ones in the Pros. This could be to help differentiate them, while also needing more power for some of the pro features. Or it could also have to do with a slower ramp-up production schedule on the new chips. Like most speculation this far out, with so little actual info, it's hard to know and it really doesn't matter much. Like chinacat, I trust that Apple is making good decisions. It's easier to worry about these things when things are down and market sentiment/outlook is lower. But Apple has gone through many of these before, and continues to look forward, while having the strong balance sheet and income to not deviate from their plans.

I own a Series 6 Watch. From a performance perspective I don’t really have any issues.
But don’t get me started on Siri. I swear it is getting dumber all the time. Lately when I tell a HomePod to play a specific song or album, it has been responding that it cannot find that Music in my library. When I have an Apple Music subscription. Or I will ask to turn off some lights. And it will tell me that I don’t have anything set up in my Home App. Which is incorrect. I can then immediately run the command from the Home App directly.
If the pundits need to rag on something and point out how far behind it is behind the competition, they need to look no further than Siri.

From PED: Joanna Stern put together a 21 minute video dealing with the iPhone at 15...the same age as a young man born the same day the iPhone was released. I don't often think about what it's like to grow up in a world where the iPhone is an established, common product. I also very much enjoyed the short interviews with Tony Fadell, Greg Joswiak and Phillip Shoemaker as well the overall review of how far the iPhone has come since 2007. For anyone older than 20 years old, the iPhone was an almost unbelievable invention...and I think even the folks who developed the iPhone were surprised at how it changed our lives for the better. Does anyone remember using the card catalog in a library to look up information? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? 😎 WSJ: The iPhone at 15
