Could this story about Jony Ive be connected to the rumors that Apples efforts to bring a car to market are being called off?

Could this story about Jony Ive be connected to the rumors that Apples efforts to bring a car to market are being called off? Apple does a lot of designing. I wouldn't think a contract would be specific to a potential vehicle, but it's hard to guess at. Personally, I think Apple went a little too far on the design vs functionality scale. I'd rather a little more upgradability and easy fixability with products, than going for the "this is a diamond, with no visible flaws at all". At least for the main products. Like Toyota, I could see coming in with a luxury series, like the Lexus. Apple did this a little, with the edition series watch. I think there is enough of a market now that Apple could do this more, making limited edition items, whether that's just a design/aesthetics thing, or even if it is a souped up version with something special.

If a car was still coming I doubt they would have just previewed next-gen Carplay

While I am reading a lot of echo chamber on this ("Whatever Tim Cook does is wonderful"), this greatly concerns me. All the major players of the Jobs era are gone. So we're just supposed to take it as a matter of faith that everything is okey dokey?

The other is a widely accepted utility to make the iPhone product line more useful in vehicles. It's not like the day Apple releases a car ... that connects to iPhone, of course, that they will stop allowing iPhone to connect to non-Apple cars.

I sense Cook will retire soon and pursue his alternate passion to fulfill his ambitious appetite and sense of accomplishment…. then retire. POLITICS

POLITICS While I agree that Tim Cook will retire soon (soon being sometime in the next 5 years), there is absolutely ZERO chance that he will ever enter politics. He just doesn't have the personality for it. He may FUND politics, but he won't become a politician. No way.
