As I mentioned at the time, my most recent iPhone purchase was the current model SE, since between retirement and the pandemic I am out of the house much less often these days, so I was intrigued by Compared: iPhone 14 versus 2022 iPhone SE. For just over half the price, I find the SE quite acceptable for my current needs, and there is little in the comparison chart that makes me wish I had chosen a more expensive model, which matches my real world experience. Now, my case is probably not typical, but if you are buying for a pre-teen, for example, the SE may be a perfectly acceptable for that level of needs. Of course, YMMV.

My 2 teens both bought an SE this year, the first with the 2nd gen, and the second with the 3rd. They like them, and haven't broken then yet. They paid for at least half of the iPhone, and are paying for service through mint mobile at $15/month. They are a little smaller than my 11, and I was tempted to just upgrade my 11 and give them mine. Maybe I'll do that for the 3rd kid, who is only about to turn 12 (6th grade) but with their school being an hour away, it could be helpful to have a cell.
