I thought I'd start this because of what I read on PED's 3.0 from TommoUK. For anyone thinking that we're an echo chamber of positivity, a flock of head-buried birds, then read this harsh assessment of Apple today from an old time commentator who considers himself a mega-contrarian. www.ped30.com/2022/12/23/apple-tim-cook-trouble/Merry Everything to All!

Great article Ted ! I am glad you reposted it on a weekend thread; it was kind of lost on a weekday thread. I like the comment about people leaving Apple to form their own world. Tommo has a good point - Apple is no longer the holy grail. It reminds me of companies like AT&T, IBM, and Microsoft. Once the grail; now no longer. The point about opening strangers to Apple products (i.e. non-approved apps) needs to play out. We shall see what happens. TimCook is clearly a good person and I believe cares about Apple. He is not a technical (read scientific) person by training, and is more a business person. He may not be the kind of leader that can keep persons with real skill and passion in place.

I remember Tommo_UK from the first AFB hosted by TMO and always enjoyed reading his options on whatever was being discussed. I had first joined AFB in 2006 and was looking for some understanding and guidance into the world of AAPL and investing. With Tommo especially I found that I needed my special decoder ring to decipher most of what he was trying to convey, but always enjoyed his humor and his willingness to broach any controversial subject that may involve AAPL and Apple. So when TMO pulled the plug and deleted the AFB a piece of history was destroyed, my history along with the history of many others. This quote from PEDs story is one that I wish Tommo had elaborated on a little more:
I guess that time will tell, as always.
And, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy your friends and loved ones on this very special day.

This was before he and others left the old AFB. Just thinking out loud.

Macster I remember the talk about how a company has a life cycle and that at some point in its existence it will lose its edge and become lazy with the feeling of invincibility. History is full of examples. Were it not for the loss of its production from China this quarter I think that we would be praising Apple and its ability to weather the storm. It’s not good to lose confidence in the company that you’re invested in.

Tim Cook's undergraduate degree from Auburn was Industrial Engineering which makes him a highly technical/scientific person in my book.

The way I remember it from his AFB days was that he'd lost confidence in Apples ability to grow its stock price and was moving on to silver.

Yes, I remember some discussion on the Law of Large Numbers. As Apple grows larger it will not be able to maintain that same rate of growth over time. And Apple proved that that law can be broken, often. And everyone was moving into silver because of the demand for circuit boards. That may have been around the time of the financial crisis and fear was everywhere.

I recall Tommo and SNIPUS buying into SLW (Silver Wheaton) on the thought that there were more futures contracts for silver then for the amount of silver on the planet. Also as Dave said that AAPL was not going to grow at a very high rate anymore.
That was 10 years or so ago so my memory may misremembering.

I had forgotten about SNIPUS but there are several others that I’ve also forgotten. Mace I remember and his discussions on chart reading, such as Fibonacci sequencing and curves. And there was someone living in Eastern Canada along the coast and had made a tons of money with options in any flavor. And there was someone living in Europe that had also gambled on options and had lost everything and wasn’t sure about how he was going to tell his wife. A difficult conversation.
