Good morning. Today’s the day, Apple reports earnings after today’s close. So this afternoon, kickback in your favorite chair with your favorite beverage and a box of tissues so you’re covered for either outcome. The pre-market is very green at +1.07% at this moment.

Facebook rallied 20% after theirs so lets hope Apple does the same!
Although Facebook was 60% down from its high but Apple is only 19%

They expect a -8.5% (independent) -11.94% (pro) decline YoY of Macs when the redesigned M2 Air came out?? That's insane, Macs will definitely have positive growth. Especially when they crippled the 256GB SSD bringing in an extra $200 pure profit on each machine upgraded to 512GB.

I have to say I'm starting to get a bit worried about Apple's future. When the Mac (aka Justin Long) is cast as an immoral, greedy and selfish character (see Barbarian), I'm thinking somebody is trying to tell me something.

Yep! Nice to see most AAPL charts in the green, aside from the 6M and 1Y. Those will take some more time, even when the stock is moving upwards. I have the VIX on my stock app. Though it should measure any volatility, most often it seems to only go up when the market goes down. But not today. The VIX is up, with most of the market up nicely. While I don't think we can expect a META type movement, it seems like the market is in a good mood, and ready to hear good things. I expect Apple can do that, especially with the lowered expectations, but there always is a little bit of mystery.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2023 first quarter ended December 31, 2022. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $117.2 billion, down 5 percent year over year, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.88. “As we all continue to navigate a challenging environment, we are proud to have our best lineup of products and services ever, and as always, we remain focused on the long term and are leading with our values in everything we do,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “During the December quarter, we achieved a major milestone and are excited to report that we now have more than 2 billion active devices as part of our growing installed base.” “We set an all-time revenue record of $20.8 billion in our Services business, and in spite of a difficult macroeconomic environment and significant supply constraints, we grew total company revenue on a constant currency basis,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. “We generated $34 billion in operating cash flow and returned over $25 billion to shareholders during the quarter while continuing to invest in our long-term growth plans.” Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.23 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on February 16, 2023 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on February 13, 2023. Apple will provide live streaming of its Q1 2023 financial results conference call beginning at 2:00 p.m. PT on February 2, 2023 at apple.com/investor/earnings-call. This webcast will be available for replay for approximately two weeks thereafter. www.apple.com/newsroom/2023/02/apple-reports-first-quarter-results/

I was expecting worse - not to be Mr. Glass-Half-Full.
From cdnphoto's post: "First, Apple disclosed that it has 2 billion active devices, including iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches, and other products. It’s an increase from the 1.8 billion active devices it revealed last year in January. "
That's 200 million more active devices in a year. Not shabby. Now let's get to monetizing those...

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
"We'll, at least the market reaction wasn't too bad at the thought of President Johnson?"

The after hours trading has turn from a deep shade of red to a nice shade of green. Maybe green will be tomorrow’s color of choice.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint, right?
Happy with the recovery off of recent lows. Let’s put in a floor and build from there with iPhone supply issues (seemingly) behind us

While I don't think we can expect a META type movement, it seems like the market is in a good mood, and ready to hear good things. I expect Apple can do that, especially with the lowered expectations, but there always is a little bit of mystery. Hmmmmm On kid pickup, so I missed the call, and the attempt to glean all of the info in the release, analysis, and call. Instead, I was dropping by Sams Club (traffic up), Trader Joes (looks pretty good), and T-Mobile (they and Verizon have $25/month when you buy 4, but they also potentially give you an iPhone 14 for free, where it turns out they will give me $800 trade-in (so free) for my 11 with a broken back glass, and $400 for the 8 and 8+ we have....if they can boot up (nothing broken or worn out on the exterior)) Long story short, locally, business is doing well. But T-mobile, possibly with some kick-backs from Apple, is offering some decent promotions. Their coverage isn't perfect, but in our area they are backed up by ATT, which really doesn't change the local coverage map, so why not switch. I'll see what Verizon has to say, but.... 3% down in AH isn't great, but at least it averages out with the day. If I was a short term trader, I'd be worried. Still, I doubt this will give us the opportunities that some (Mark) took up within the last couple weeks (writing covered calls when the stock was sub-130). Nothing is a given. If this were a straight line, and yielded the kind of returns AAP has given, everyone would be doing it.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint, right? You do know how that story ended for Philippides, right?

It’s a marathon, not a sprint, right? You do know how that story ended for Philippides, right? Can you really guess at the actual facts from ~2500 years ago? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheidippides~325 miles??? Damn, our older vehicles are near the limit on making that on a tank of gas. Tim, and Steve, have said that Apple is looking at the long term. It's important to confirm that this is still the path, and that Apple is accomplishing it. But at the moment it seems this was more a problem of analysts not fulling taking in the headwinds of specific and broad issues, rather than Apple messing up. But it is hard to know if that is giving them too much or too little credit.
