Thanks for posting that, Dave! I'm surprised you didn't also post some of the comments from PED's column as you have in the past because, as is often the case, they're well worth reading. They gave me the distinct impression that, as AAPL investors, they were glad Tim Cook ignored the letter. ======================= David Emery said: Well, that certainly qualifies as “please document when you stopped beating your wife.” 🙁 ======================= Steven Philips said: That was EXACTLY my first thought. Plus “Are you now or have you ever been a communist?” What rocks are we finding our current politicians under? ======================= David Emery said: Probably the same rock garden where we’re finding anti-trust regulators 🙂 🙂 ======================= Gregg Thurman said: What rocks are we finding our current politicians under? Fundamentalist Christian churches.======================= Hugh Lovell said: Good grief. Many of the Republican members of the House are in urgent need of psychiatric help. ======================= Michael Goldfeder said: None of these seven (7) categories of documents that he requested relate to Apple whatsoever. My hunch is that Jordan lumps all Big Tech into one camp and sends out his wish list. Obviously, he’s unaware of “FAANG?” That would explain why he didn’t send his subpoena to Netflix’s CEO: “Reed Hastings” too! ======================= S Lawton said: Now, now, folks. Jim Jordan is due the same reepect he showed the Jan 6 committee ======================= Steven Philips said: But, Sandy, that’s exactly what we’re giving him! 🙂 ======================= Daniel Epstein said: Are the expenses created by supplying these materials and of course the time of these executives spend/waste for this subpoena tax deductible as a business expense? Too bad the money doesn’t come out of Jim Jordan’s pocket if it turns out to be an unfounded fishing trip. I think Apple can afford it but this is an abuse of power plain and simple. ======================= Daniel Epstein said: And you notice he sent this out originally before he was even officially in charge of the committee as the deadline was December 29, 2022. ======================= Ken Cheng said: “we write to request more information about the nature and extent of your companies’ collusion with the Biden Administration.” Hahaha,… what a clown show. ======================= Bart Yee said: Oh please. A fishing trip, an empty one at that. Aren’t tech’s privately owned platforms allowed to moderate and remove those who misinform, lie, and spout/sprout hateful language? These entities are not the US government. They are private companies and platforms with their own self determined rules and policies. Want to be on it, abide by and stick to the rules and guidelines. If you cannot, go somewhere else or risk being booted from the platform. Perhaps Jordan and his ilk should quit trying to insert his part of government expansion and intrusion into our private and corporate lives. Why does it always seem that the side that wants “smaller government” does exactly the opposite? Sorry, rhetorical question. From Freedomforum.org regarding the First Anendment: “The First Amendment only protects your speech from government censorship. It applies to federal, state, and local government actors. This is a broad category that includes not only lawmakers and elected officials, but also public schools and universities, courts, and police officers. [my emphasis – It does not include private citizens, businesses, and organizations. ] This means that: A private school can suspend students for criticizing a school policy. A private business can fire an employee for expressing political views on the job. A private media company can refuse to publish or broadcast opinions it disagrees with.” www freedomforum org /is-your-speech-protected-by-the-first-amendment/ ======================= Greg Lippert said: “A private media company can refuse to publish or broadcast opinions it disagrees with.” Yep. Just look at Fox News! Or even more extreme right wing hack jobs. ======================= Gregg Thurman said: Hahaha,… what a clown show. Today’s Republican Party is the reincarnation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, only not nearly as benign. Hitler would be proud to see them in action. ======================= Greg Lippert said: I’m glad Apple ignored this assclown.

Believe it or not, many times I will post links to stories that I don’t always agree with, but I do think that others may have interest in. I’m trying to start a discussion, as this is a discussion board, not an echo chamber. I found the comments section entertaining even though I disagree with all of their opinions. But the story can’t be ignored. They call those people in Washington DC lawmakers for a reason and anyone’s guess about the outcome of these meetings is as good as any. And there will be an outcome.

Dave, I *do* believe you post links to stories that you don't always agree with...I appreciate it...and I'm sure it's appreciated by most AFB members. I found the comments section entertaining even though I disagree with all of their opinions. But the story can’t be ignored. They call those people in Washington DC lawmakers for a reason and anyone’s guess about the outcome of these meetings is as good as any. And there will be an outcome. OK, I was surprised you stated that you disagree with *all* of their opinions. I believe most, if not all, Apple investors want the company to thrive and be successful. So it would not be surprising to me would be if you stated you disagreed with *some* or even *many* of the commenters...but I find it unusual that you disagree with every single one of the commenters. So, having read the letter, are you saying you believe Tim Cook should respond and provide any and all information that was requested by Rep. Jim Jordan? Because, personally, I believe Tim Cook and the rest of the C.E.O.'s that received the letter should refuse the request.

Jordan is on a sham witch-hunt. The guy is a complete clown. His biases are clear even before any hearings. His nonsense comment about collusion with the Biden admin, makes that obvious. His mind is already made up and won’t change, no matter what is learned from here on in.
Foreign competitors like Samsung must be tickled pink about the harassment of American companies by their own government.
EDIT - my definition of unwarranted harassment includes some of the rhetoric coming out of the Biden admin.

Anytime the validity of our elections comes into question, and there is evidence to support that question, it should not be taken lightly. There is a large percentage of the population that has that same question and they are requesting that it be looked into, and they and the world will be watching. So, Tim Cook is not only representing himself but also Apple to the world. Apple could come out of this stained or it could come out shining. Again, the world will be watching.

The validity of the election is only questioned because of the many lies promulgated about it by trump et al. Have you read the Fox News admissions from the voting machine suit? What is the "evidence to support that question" that you refer to? All but one case out of 60 brought by TFG was thrown out of court and no new proof of wrongdoing has been shown.

Donald Trump is the reason validity of the election is questioned…. Really? Those swing state election shenanigans, sworn affidavits, the illegally late change of election laws, Mail-in ballots sent all over the place many not requested, no chain of custody ballot drop offs, ballot counting without signature verification, voter machine issues and a host of other irregularities would entice anyone with an ounce of suspicion to question the certification. But… Who ever thought alleged massive election fraud in the 5 swing states could overwhelm the courts and constitutionally be litigated before a constitutionally mandated certification on J6? Constitutional law was upheld, those in the know knew, the courts could not grant discovery and postpone certification no matter what. There was no precedent and no Constitutional framework to deal with alleged fraud in multiple states and leave vacant the Presidential office for a year or more. The courts knew, the perpetrators and Mike Pence knew it.

Even Trump's hand-picked head of the DOJ, Barr, said there was no indication of fraud on a scale that could've affected the election. But, whatever, believe what you want.

If a crime is committed, evidence presented but sorry we are not granting the prosecutors discovery of evidence to document then present to a jury. Nope sorry they threw it out, the incumbent lost, the president elect was certified and sworn in. People were upset. Yes it was a waste of time for the administration’s legal team. Why? What do you think? No precedent, constitutionally unlawful, no constitutional framework. Does the executive branch from the previous administration continue till 5 states decide to have new elections from jury trials. How long would that be, years. A constitutional quagmire would result. Now remember how your mindset developed over that period. Say you were anti trump or didn’t care, followed twitter, Facebook Google search, Liberal print, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC. If that’s the case you did not hear all the shenanigans that occurred during the 2020 election cycle and Election Day and we know why. Now on the other hand those getting info from conservative print, Cable news internet blogs etc have a different point of view. It’s not rocket science. Nevertheless the results are that our election systems are not trusted and need strengthened. Unless your political party won, you trust our election systems and feel the other side is practicing censorship by sponsoring election integrity bills that should strengthen and secure elections for everyone.

Fox hosts didn’t believe 2020 election fraud claimsWILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Hosts at Fox News had serious concerns about allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election being made by guests who were allies of former President Donald Trump, according to court filings in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the network. “Sidney Powell is lying,” about having evidence for election fraud, Tucker Carlson told a producer about the attorney on Nov. 16, 2020, according to an excerpt from an exhibit that remains under seal. The internal communication was included in a redacted summary judgment brief filed Thursday by attorneys for Dominion Voting Systems. Carlson also referred to Powell in a text as an “unguided missile,” and “dangerous as hell.” Fellow host Laura Ingraham, meanwhile, told Carlson that Powell is “a complete nut. No one will work with her. Ditto with Rudy,” referring to former New York mayor and Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani.Fox News hosts thought Trump’s election fraud claims were ‘total BS’, court filings showHosts at Fox News privately ridiculed Donald Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen while simultaneously peddling the same lies on air, according to court filings in a defamation lawsuit against the network.Rightwing personalities Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham are among those named in the $1.6bn action brought by Dominion Voting Systems, the seller of electronic voting hardware and software that is suing Fox News and parent company Fox Corporation for maligning its reputation. In September Carlson became very upset about some of the reaction to the death of Queen Elizabeth II – so much so that he launched a passionate defense of British colonialism. “He’s acting like an insane person,” Hannity allegedly wrote of Trump in the weeks following the election as the host continued to push the so-called “big lie” during his top-rated prime time show, aided by a succession of election deniers he had on as guests.Even billionaire Fox owner Rupert Murdoch was dismissive of the former president’s false allegations, the filing alleges, calling them “really crazy stuff” in one memo to a Fox News executive, and criticizing Trump’s scattergun approach of pursuing lawsuits in numerous states to try to overturn his defeat. It was “very hard to credibly claim foul everywhere”, Murdoch wrote, adding in another note that Trump’s obsession with trying to prove fraud was “terrible stuff damaging everybody”. Meanwhile, Carlson, one of the network’s most prominent and controversial stars, was disdainful of Sidney Powell, a senior Trump attorney who repeatedly claimed Dominion’s machines flipped votes cast for Trump to Joe Biden. “Sidney Powell is lying,” he wrote to a producer, the Dominion lawsuit alleges. He referred to Powell in a text as an “unguided missile” and “dangerous as hell”.Trump, Carlson said, was a “demonic force” who was good at “destroying things. He’s the undisputed world champion of that. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong.” Fellow host Ingraham told Carlson that Powell was “a complete nut. No one will work with her. Ditto with Rudy,” referring to the former New York mayor and Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani. Hannity, meanwhile, said in a deposition “that whole narrative that Sidney was pushing, I did not believe it for one second”, according to Dominion’s filing. Other internal communications revealed that Fox News executives, hosts and researchers used phrases including “mind-blowingly nuts”, “totally off the rails” and “completely BS” to describe the false election theories they were publicly promoting.

Many of us believed that Fox was lying about election fraud because that is what their viewers wanted to hear. That Dominion discovery document proves it. Simple. They knew they were promoting lies, but what really mattered was ratings, not truth. But the evidence and data, much of it in Fox personality’s own words will never satisfy those who have drank the election-fraud cool aid. Hopeless even trying.

You guys are so into Fox News to support your narratives. Fox News had issues like all mainstream media trying to keep advertisers from leaving, personality and guest issues as you point out. Opinions won’t convince me otherwise. Even if it was proven there was massive fraud before the constitutional mandated certification it would be null and void by the courts.
