I thought this article did a good job of refuting the silliness of pretending to read Cook’s mind, where he allegedly needs this thing for his legacy. Since nothing else important has been launched during his watch. Conveniently ignoring:
1. The Apple Watch which is a huge hit, which was launched 3 years after Steve died
2. The AirPods, which are also a huge hit, which were launched a year after the Watch
3. Cooks legacy is cemented by huge shareholder returns, new products, and large services growth. The idea that he needs an AR device to cement his legacy is preposterous. Further, I don’t believe for a second that his ego would drive the release of anything. That theme is made-up garbage to drive page hits.

I'm pretty sure that he wants to retire someday in quiet and relative obscurity (obviously because of his career, he will never be obscure, but certainly a lot more obscure than a typical person who was CEO of [one of] the largest company[ies] on earth).

I think he could blend in well enough. We have a good mix of well known people for our town's size. Most everyone blends on the ski slope...those darn goggles tend to make it hard to recognize. But even in other places, things are different. This isn't like hollywood, where someone in plain clothes looks a lot different from their stardom persona. If Keri Walsh can blend in, I think Tim can. Some people will notice. But the masses won't.

"Exclusive-India plans new security testing for smartphones, crackdown on pre-installed apps"
In 2013 I tried to switch to the Galazy Note. OLED screen perfect size and stylus. But could not get the software interface and Google, Samsung and ATT all had each 20 different apps installed. And if you deleted them you got a warning, phone won't work. Both ANDROID and Samsung had their version of SIRI installed.
The worst thing on the phone was a dedicated button to call up Samsung's Siri.
