Good morning. Apple reports earnings this afternoon. This morning’s pre-market is red at -1.12% at this moment. Place your bets ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.

Tipping at an Apple Store? Are they nuts? The tipping culture has gone crazy.

Tipping at an Apple Store? Are they nuts? The tipping culture has gone crazy. If tipping is a reward for employees performing above and beyond the required standard then it is only fair that a reduction in pay would also be justified for a poor performance. But wait, that would mean that actions would have consequents. Just sayin'.

Tipping? A big mistake. It ruins an Apple Store as a safe haven. A place to help you, get really good knowledge, and even fix repairs. A wonderful image ! !

Is this going to be one of those earnings days when we get beat down going in, have a good print, and make it back to where we started? Sorta feels like it. I don't think that the market is factoring in the 2-1 split. Chew on that, algorithms!

Does anyone want to may any guesses about how low we may go? I see some support at $155, $157 and $160.

On the positive side, we're no longer close to RSI being 70. Now around 51. Hopefully earnings are good tonight.

Apple’s Unionized Store Workers Seek Tips and Higher Holiday PayIn addition to an overall raise, representatives from the store are asking Apple for higher pay over a larger slate of holidays, including the day after Thanksgiving. The union is also seeking to expand vacation pay and available time off based on years of service. And it wants to extend paid bereavement leave from 10 days per occurrence to a maximum of 45 days a year and for the policy to include pets and close friends. LOL! They really are completely nuts. Jan 23'rd, brutal winter: "My pet hamster died and I need to take 2 weeks off ... in a sunny, warm place to recover."

AI at WWDC Xcode is the only IDE that doesn’t have an AI copilot. Will they talk about it? youtu.be/iGZ5F-aFFkc

Jan 23'rd, brutal winter: "My pet hamster died and I need to take 2 weeks off ... in a sunny, warm place to recover." And what's a pet, anyways? Another "pet" meal worm or grasshopper passed away. Rex the iguana wouldn't even eat them. Come on JD, this is a juicy enough ask by the union that you've gotta respond. These stores aren't even in LA or SF. Good to see an uptick in people here. As I asked a couple weeks ago, instead of just reading posts, try to log in once in a while. Aim for making at least one on topic post a quarter, even if it's just to say why you still like AAPL, or what Apple products you are liking or not liking. And on that liking front, give a thumbs up to a post you appreciated, at least once a month. And if you want the real bonus points, post at least monthly and give a thumbs up at least weekly. Most days I see multiple posts that I really appreciate. We're not doling out money for the privilege of being able to read or post on this site, so it's nice to at least thank people once in a while. And remember that you can also send people a message directly, to thank them. We'll see what the day brings.

The company’s “modem-only” customer, which is how Qualcomm refers to Apple, is ordering fewer parts after stocking up earlier in the year, Chief Financial Officer Akash Palkhiwala said on the conference call. But he said that observation wasn’t a comment about demand for the iPhone. Investors will get a better sense of how that device is doing when Apple reports its own earnings Thursday.
Dave, Thank you for sharing this! Backing up from their communication gaff …?

Well there was a time when Unions struck for enough to eat and get through the winter. They should read "Meet You in Hell". Tells the story of the most violent strike in American History. Homestead Steel. These guys mostly Eastern Europeans were killed fighting for a livable wage from the richest man in the world, Carnegie.
The entitlement of these kids is very funny. Tipping is a really bad tradition.

Regional banks are getting killed once again, can they rise from the ashes? More are going under, more to the edge. I saw a former FED official on Bloomberg who said: It is an overreaction. Talking about the crashing stock prices of the R banks. Thing is when they go out of business the stocks are worth nothing. So glib statements don't help. This a bigger problem than the Republican kerfuffle over the deficit. They do this every chance they get and get their pound of flesh. Of course Obama with 60 votes in the Senate could have ended this, but no. He passes a law saying using the word "oriental" is racist.

Wow, that's a lot of newer cables! My old cables, like a USB A to USB B, are mostly 15-20 years old. I even tend to keep a couple SCSI cables around, thinking I might have a reason. I do have people bring computers to me, trying to fix something or at least get the data off of them, and I enjoy the challenge. But it's time to flush my collection of SCSI stuff. Probably. I still have a Mac 128k, and it might have an external HD along with its external floppy drives. I think I've gotten rid of most things between then and 10 years ago (ok, maybe 15+). And the old Quicksilver behind me, and the box of Cube parts, neither need SCSI. Fun times! I wondered if there were worries of overcharging with uncertified cables. Chips in cables sounds crazy, but thee's a reason. Thanks for the story.

I still have some SCSI cables and terminators in my basement as well. RS232 serial cables also. Yes ... I'm a packrat.

EPS the same as a year ago, even with revenue down. Looks like that stock repurchasing helps a bit.
Dividend up (only) 4% to 24 cents a quarter.

Mac sales were slaughtered YOY. From $10.435B down to $7.168B, a decline of more than 31%. I suppose better than PCs that were reportedly down closer to 40%, but still dismal.

Not entirely unexpected though, after the huge pandemic WFH purchases and M-Series upgrade cycle. I suspect we are now in a new ~5 year upgrade cycle starting in 2021/2022. These new Macs were built to last. The overall market share growth bodes well for the long term. link

On diluted shares listed on the 8-k, it's down almost 1.41B shares from what I have listed 2.5 years ago. That's nearly 8.2%, or nearly 3.2% annualized.
The number of diluted shares in '20 Q4 was 17,256,521,xxx, and now in '23 Q2 it is 15,847,050,xxx

Not bad, I'll take it in the middle of the Biden-Powell Recession.

Not bad, I'll take it in the middle of the Biden-Powell Recession. I agree, not bad, but there is no recession.
