Everyone can start preordering their new phones in about 25 minutes from now. The new USB-C earpods are apparently lossless. But that doesn't really matter much when the source content has been encoded and decoded in a non-lossless manner (MP3, AAC, etc). The whole French radiation thing, even though likely nonsense, was settled with a simple software change as discussed here earlier in the week. [NOTE added 8:15am eastern time: This is very odd and unusual for Apple. The preorder site is still not up and working. They changed the message to "Almost there. Just a few finishing touches and the Apple Store will be ready. See you soon."]

The roll out of iPhone ordering ability is strange. I was checked out 3 minutes after Apple said the store would open. Others were locked out for 20 minutes. Not great for anyone wanting a pro max with deliveries slipping to 3 weeks in 30 minutes. Affects resale to sites like Gazelle who need phones back by early October for max trade in value.
I hope those who ordered were able to get what they wanted.

I could have picked up all but the natural titanium 512 Gb, Pro Max at my local Apple Store on day 1 of availability. Getting the natural, which is supposed to deliver between Oct 10 and 17.

Ordered a 1TB 15 Pro Black - delivery next Friday. (I was thinking about “natural” but it seemed a little bit too much like a less saturated shade of “gold”.)
This will be a solid upgrade from the 512GB 12 Pro, which is starting to run low on free space).

Looks like pro boards fixed the blank rank issue on our site. Any thoughts about having some sort of rank listed based on post count? As we see with Lstream, right now over 500 posts makes you a God. previously it just listed member for everyone, do we want something listed, and what?
Good news with iPhone orders, even if it was a little rocky at first. And the whole France thing, especially while Italy and Germany, and others were ready to pile on.

If there is going to be some sort of ranking, I would prefer to see it based more on quality than quantity. However, I do recognize that would be more subjective and arguable. I’d just as soon skip the whole ranking idea, which puts more focus on the posters than on Apple, which I think is what most of us are here for. “Likes” are good enough as far as I am concerned.

Yep, that's how I am feeling, and how Lovemyipad had it set, to just list everyone as "member". It's not that I am against rewarding higher post count, but personally I am just as happy to see an informative or thought provoking post from hrace as I am from coma. On the mobile version it lists the rank but doesn't list post count. Proboards doesn't have a way to give people a different rank or name based on how many "likes" they have. There might be a way to manually do it, but I'd have to see if there is a "total like count" somewhere. What are others thinking about it? We could have one level, say below 5 or 10 posts, that is "new member". We have so many long-time members who have never posted, some who even log in. But that would help us acknowledge "new poster"s on the site.

Have "New Member" below a certain low number of posts, 5 or 10, and change it to "Member" after that number is exceeded.

I'm with you guys. numbers are good. I'm not sure how we would quantify quality, but I guess likes will work just fine. I agree that the labels distract from the content.

At one time the upgrades to the MAC OS by Steve were can't miss theater and usually inspiring. Same with the phone. Have we reached a point where the phone upgrades are not compelling? I don't even pay attention to the OS upgrades on my iMac. I have a 12, the 15 camera is better. Same story. Long way to go before the Nikon D850 with the 28-300 lenses is matched.
I still say build in hearing aid apps for the Beats like earphones, a taser, and one that folds to the size of the iPhone original through the 4s. They were elegant. They fit into the front pocket of jeans easily. That will bring the house down again.

I think that the labels can be considered ridiculous or insulting. Member or moderator is very adequate to describe ones standing in the community. The stars and their color have little value. The question should be, how will any guests view all of the color labels and titles? Will it provide a sense of value to the site, a site that may have value and generates a desire to be a member of, and want to encourage their friends to go to for information on their investments or for entertainment. And please don't allow any GIF emoji's. Just sayin'.

Sometimes I will click the "like" button on a post for various reasons. There may be a statement within the post that I agree with or I may agree with everything that is written. And sometimes I'm just thankful that someone posted that day and I'm wanting to encourage them to do it again. After all, if I click the " like" button it doesn't mean that "I'm wanting to go steady with ya".

And sometimes I'm just thankful that someone posted that day and I'm wanting to encourage them to do it again. After all, if I click the " like" button it doesn't mean that "I'm wanting to go steady with ya". Sounds about right. On other forums I see a similar type of tool, so that say a person with 500 posts might be an "old timer". I'm surprised the default, or what the proboards person put in when fixing things on our site, is God. Normally on video games when they throw around that sort of thing, it's "god like" or something of that sort. Keep posting if you have ideas. I'm leaning towards "new poster" and "member". Likes are a difficult thing, but it looks like proboards doesn't give any options here. It looks like "likes" are only on the individual posts, and in a person't notification stream. I don't see them in the security logs, so there's not even a way through there to count them. Oh well...I gave them a feature request in case they ever start adding features again instead of proboards being more in maintenance mode. Personally, I sometimes don't "like" something just because of one comment in there, worried someone would again feel that those darn moderators are too sided. It shouldn't matter, and maybe it doesn't. Luckily we have a great group here that post info and opinions on AAPL and Apple. Though at times I wish we had a few more people posting, including some of those "old timers" and some of the new members too, we have a good thing going here that has been at this site for 11 years now. Thanks everyone!

They fit into the front pocket of jeans easily. That will bring the house down again. While there are many stories out there pushing the "this was a boring announcement" storyline, pre-orders of at lease the Pro level iPhones seem to be doing great, just hours into ordering. The non-pro 15 is still showing availability for pickup the day of, at our local store in all of the color configs I tried. Though it got me thinking that it's far enough ahead of time that a particular store probably has a certain size allotment rather than particular color/configs, and they can sort that out. While I don't particularly like the pastel color choices and so would mainly be looking at black if ordering the 15, school colors or other things often can vary a particular area's color preferences, just as it can for some car colors. At some point you might expect some extra stock buying from places that are underinvested, due to the demand for the pros. And updated stories, too. But like every time, the storyline might just change to "Apple must have production problems for the pro lines" or even "no one wants a non-pro iPhone anymore". Ah, analysts, media, and their mysterious but rather consistent ways.

Pretty decent and somewhat predicable AAPL close @ $175.01 -.42% Vol 109K given Quad witching options and NAS -1.56%
Hope talk of a possible gov shutdown doesn't derail the market next week and an extension can be agreed on...
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Just checked iPhone 15 availability here in Canada. Almost every model except the Pro Max has near-term availability. Don’t know if that is negative or not. Or is there just a big shift to the Pro Max going on?
