Apple announced M3 series chips last night and laptops and iMacs can be ordered today. The presentation was clearly aimed at all the Intel Mac users who haven't upgraded to M1/M2 models yet.
Premarkets aren't looking too impressed - down slightly $169.57 -$0.71 (-0.42%)

Just watched the presentation - apples’ rate of innovation with their silicon is quite breathtaking - now a 128gb ram laptop with 16 cores and unbelievably energy efficient. This is good timing as, I think if they can generally time their big ticket items around 4th quarter vs. 1st q of the new year it will probably generate more sales - also the new M3 24’ iMac could be a big hit with families / students and small businesses for the holiday season.

27" iMac is a relic? Good excuse to figure out how to make a 30 inch cinema display work with current boxes available.

Apple makes the big displays but unfortunately, not the up-to-date Macs to drive them—neither the mini or Studio Macs are equipped with M3 processors. I think Apple has shot itself in the foot by not offering a big screen iMac.

I think so too ! I use a MacBook Pro to drive my old 30" Apple Cinema Display. It is wonderful. I think, but have no data, that a larger iMac would sell well.
The keyboard and mouse are bluetooth, and the MacBook Pro sits on the floor. It acts exactly as a 30" iMac would. Wonderful !

Posting that entire set up with power device and connectors would help. I have seen various setups with the 30 inch.
