Not sure why Apple is down so much but if it's in reaction to splitting the App store in two for EU + rest of world, we've seen Apple still collect 27% commissions from the Dutch Dating sites that were allowed to use alternate payment systems and bypass Apple's payment systems. Traders must be forgetting that Apple builds the tools for iOS apps and owns the intellectual properties inherent in it all. 27% plus higher costs for accounting internal revenue and providing reports to Apple will cost more than staying in Apple's App Store. Buying opportunity if you're into that sort of thing.

Might be down because of the news over the weekend about the Apple Watch. Can continue selling, but without the Blood O2 in the US.

Turns out it is a discount for the Chinese New Year. Just like last year. And across multiple products. This is basically a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal. www.apple.com.cn/shop/gifts/chinese-new-year/shopping-eventStories that make this into a big deal, saying Apple never drops iPhone prices or that this is due to falling sales and rising competition, are just wrong or at least not giving the full story. A 5% discount is nice, but Apple probably makes that on selling from their store instead of a 3rd party. Some 3rd parties have been stated to have sales too...just like some US carriers have had sales, and Costco almost always has a lower price in addition to occasional sales. Looks like that 800 RMB discount is off of a MacBook Air, probably the 15" model. I do find the 3rd party iPhone ads in the US interesting. They definitely have their own vibe, and I'm sometimes surprised Apple allows them. There was one the other day, possibly from Cellular One or something like that, that to me felt like a step below the ones from Verizon and T-Mobile. But on the China thing, this temporary holiday discount doesn't seem like something to worry too much about. It is getting a lot of play, and I'd rather AAPL was higher. But if trying to find the silver lining, this should be solidifying the 180-185 area.

Now futures down sharply on China GDP and retail sales numbers below expectations.
