At present I just don't see any major driver of increased Apple earnings. Feel the stock may drift quite a bit down in the next few months.
Microsoft held its own over the many years partly (only partly) because of an ecosystem integrated with Windows/Excel/Word/PowerPoint and other functionality.
I am glad Apple has a similar ecosystem with iPhone/iMessage/FaceTime and other functionality.

The best thing I can say is it's generally been better to be down going into an earnings report than to be at highs going into earnings.

The whining from epic is a nothing burger, that will go nowhere. Apple is entitled to monetize their ecosystem, despite what the wankers at epic seem to think. Is anyone adding to their position at this point? Wait until after 2 PM today? Or until after earnings? Talking about about long-term shares here not a quick trade, but always nice to know when to pull the trigger for best effect.

I’ve been buying a few shares here and there in the last few days. $190 to $220 is 15% ($220 being a hopeful 1 year target). I’ll take that for a year and long term. If it was much more $$ than reinvesting some dividends I’d probably wait for the possibility of $170s.

The whining from epic is a nothing burger, that will go nowhere. Apple is entitled to monetize their ecosystem, despite what the wankers at epic seem to think. The problem is convincing people of the model. The one that Epic is pushing is of selling an egg at the Apple store, and then their own store. It makes sense that Apple gets a piece of it when they sell it, but doesn't when Epic sells it. But the Freemium model messes it all up. Apple is taking an initial loss with all of the free apps, basically subsidizing the ecosystem. It makes sense that Apple should get a piece of it if the user then pays. I guess it would be like people picking up a dozen eggs from Apple, but they have a lock on the case. And then people calling up Epic, paying for the eggs, and unlocking them. Who added value to the system, and by how much? It's strange with digital goods, whereas it's much easier to see with physical goods, and with non-free items. But normally it's not that you are picking up a free copy of Turbo Tax from Costco, and then enabling it online through Intuit, even if you have the ability to upgrade through Intuit. Part of this is Apple finding a good comparison to push. People that look at this deeper see the nuances, but the masses just see the "Apple wants to charge 27% for something someone else sells", and not the whole part about the advertising, having the store, serving the download, having the upgrade system, and testing the product. Really it is Epic trying to sneak around the rules to not end up paying anything for all of this. They're trying to sneak in to the Super Bowl and not pay the $8k ticket, all while making great money on the whole thing.

I don’t see epic getting any traction, it’s already gone to the Supreme Court, and was not picked up, so there’s really nothing for them to do but whine.
Agreed that Apple needs to present a clear analog to other markets but it’s not hard to find examples; the Sony/nintendo/xbox market is similar.

Looks like the earnings may be volatile either way tomorrow. Recently things have been calm, with fed speak in the wind and lots of apple negativity things could go south if Cook gets negative. If he produces a nice earning beat we could get traction.
