Ok, let's get this party started!!! It was a crazy post-earnings day. I thought about buying a little extra first thing this morning, expecting to see somewhere around 180 which then happened. But I didn't. I'm sure some made some quick money, with stock or options, or at least got in a good purchase price. At least a few people here received an AVP today. Pauls put in some info at aaplfinance.proboards.com/post/134620/thread Who else has used one? Thanks all, and have a great weekend! We're set to get hammered starting Sunday with snow. Could be the day to break out the new avalanche beacons, even for in-bounds skiing at the small local resort.

There are so many pro and con comments about the Apple Vision Pro...the following is from a FaceBook post about the AVP which I found pretty interesting and encouraging for AAPL investors. I made only a couple of changes to correct grammatical or spelling errors.
================= I keep hearing that the Apple Vision Pro is a very expensive version of what is basically already available. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Apple Vision Pro is not similar to any other device out there — and it is far more than a first generation product. The AVP is best described as a collection of technologies which Apple has been developing for decades with enhancements made for the spatial computing environment. Over the decades of this technology development Apple has likely spent more on each individual technology category than other VR/AR/MR companies have spent on their total product.
No other company can field the type of mature and proven technologies, contend, and services that Apple has integrated in the AVP.
Yes, there are new hardware and software components required. But all of that was developed in a massive framework of existing technology. That enabled Apple to focus on the unique aspects of spatial computing while all the other heavy lifting was accomplished be existing technology and expertise.
Let’s take a look at just some of the core technologies that Apple has leveraged into this new product — all technologies in which apple has leading class capabilities.
What other companies in the world can bring this much into a competitor to AVP… now or even in the next five years?
Apple Silicon …..World-leading SoC ……….Processors ……….R1 Processor ……….GPUs ……….Neurale processing ……….Lower power ……….FAST unified memory …..Base of the mini-OLED displays ….. EcoSystem …..Vast array of tie-ins with everything else Apple Sound …..Spatial Audio …..Audio Ray Tracing …..Microphone beam forming …..Low latency processing …..Multiple format support Pictures/Video …..Computational Photography …..Recording …..Viewing/playing apps …..Editing …..Storing in ecosystem …..Multiple format support World mapping …..LIDAR …..TrueDepth Camera Tracking …..Inertial Measurements Units Security …..Biometric Authentication …..Secure Enclave …..Personal data within Apps Software Distribution …..iTunes and Apps store Software …..Comprehensive suite of embedded apps …..Expansive services and content …..Leveraging millions of existing apps Vision OS …..Based on iPad and iPhone OS systems …..Robust and proven …..Accessibility …..World leading user experience and interfaces …..AR tool kits …..Embedded Screen sharing iCloud Development Tools & Support Accessories Support …..Keyboards …..Mice …..Trackpads Mac OS Tie-in

I guess Apple’s silicon is so important the writer listed it twice - at the top and bottom of the list?

Some further thoughts after 3 days with Vision Pro
I'm more impressed the more time I spend. I've been using the duo strap the last couple of sessions-- it's more comfortable (holds headset in position with less tension against face, makes it feel lighter (in my limited experience). The mono strap was pretty comfortable as well, if a bit more finicky to adjust. The height of the strap at the back of your head....there's a fine line in order to distribute weight evenly against one's face. Fairly comfortable and easy, for me, but the duo strap a bit more comfortable.
Yes. It is heavy. It is packed full of the FUTURE. I think they did an AMAZING job shrinking technology while making it robust enough to be worn and handled and mis-handled....considering it is literally the FUTURE. It's comfortable of me to wear for the duration of a movie. When doing other things, a break every half hour feels nice, but not required. ymmv
Highlight experiences: Alicia Keyes with her band in a rehearsal room. Filmed with 5 or 6 small, fixed stereo camera rigs (that are clearly visible in the large room. It is unbelievably immersive, and intimate. At one point she is singing into one of the cameras, almost uncomfortably close. I blushed, I swear. You are teleported into the room. You are almost SEEN. It's weird and wonderful, imo.
Watching a movie while sitting at my kitchen island. Except I was actually on Haleakala Volcano, the screen drive-in movie size, floating out over the crater, a complete and believable 360 degree environment, that every once and awhile you look around and behind you at the landscape and it continues to take my breath away...., with incredible surround sound and the clearest picture I've ever seen. Movies and television (I also watched an episode of Masters of the Air, and new Apple TV WWII series). Incredible
The spatial audio can't be over-hyped. It's easily the best home theater/music audio experience Ive ever owned, weather listening through the built in speakers or via my AirPod Pro's. It's just incredible, being surrounded by an environment and having the audio be 3d as well. I have surround sound at home and a pretty decent projector/screen system. And a couple of 55" 4k flat screen tv's with sound bars. It is so far beyond any of that.
Games are also surprisingly immersive. Just dumb 3d virtual reality games that have you karate chopping fruit or punching musical beats.....Even these simple games, happen all around you, the elements in 3 dimensions that you can walk around, interact with, and since the software can track the movement of your eyes, hands, body, all while scanning the room, or area.....It makes for interesting interactions.
Dinosaurs can see you, approach you, hold your gaze, come up and sniff you, even if you are moving away. They follow. Or the cartoon pig in the fruit chopping game comes and rubs against your lower legs. And the Fruit Chopper Master is always looking at you from across the room, giving you tips, demonstrating karate chop techniques to help you. All as you can easily see your environment with very clear passthrough, and walk around through the game (this one can take up maybe 40' square, but it also uses lidar to see walls and furniture and sleeping dog, and overlays the 3d elements OVER the surfaces. I've never used VR before, so this might not amaze a VR game person,, but I found it ....incredible. The reviews I read didn't prepare me for a lot of it. There's no way to get a sense of it via 2 dimensional media.
i was checking out a VR Mars Landing Vehicle in actual size out in front of the house. It is bigger than I thought, like the size of a small car! Anyway, you can highlight various parts of it and get windows that explain the module or motor or what have you. You can also spin the vehicle, because it's on a virtual carousel base, with just a small movement of your fingers. I was standing very close to it, bending into it to see something, and accidentally spun it clockwise (kind of fast), and the virtual main camera head came right for my head and I had to duck quick!
Then I laughed, and laughed.
I hope Apple is spending yet more billions on the ecosystem, and propping up developers where and if they can. The potential is huge, imo. Imagine even half the functionality in something that was much smaller and weighed half as much....I believe it could easily displace many, many, many screens.
I'm starting to download other apps-- I'm very interested in maps, especially 3d maps. There are some, but hopefully more are coming.
I get that this version of the hardware might see a limited audience. And in a big way, you have to use it to get it, and I'm not sure ½ hour in an Apple Store will be enough for a some people to see the potential.

Continued---
I can't say enough about Environments. Fully immersed, 3d landscapes that are the ground, the sky, and go on for miles in all directions. A lake at Mt. Hood, Joshua Tree, Haleakala, The surface of the moon, more coming....
Also The Iron Throne Room (if you have HBO/MAX)....Then the Disney environments.,.,.,. It's like being inside the Las Vegas sphere, but more immersive. It should also be mentioned-- It's like being in the Las Vegas Sphere, all alone. It is a very personal experience, and frustrating that it can't be more easily shared. I wonder what sorts of experience will be planned for multiple people wearing headsets, either in the same location or meeting up virtually. If they get smaller and less expensive (seems certain), I can easily imagine interactions and sharing of experiences. Even if it's just going to the movies together, or watching a soccer game with a friend in another state, etc. Or full on social gatherings with strangers.
My 'Persona'...fun to make. Easy. Very, very strangely and technically advanced, watching it emote in real-time to mimic my own emotions. Not quite me, but impressively pretty damn close.
I can easily imagine Environments getting opened up to developers. It's straight up telepresence, that within the fidelity of the current video and audio, is absolutely believable that you are in the environment you chose. That that environment doesn't care if it's noon or three am, what the actual weather is, what your room looks like....if you want mid-day in the desert, you will get it, in uncanny high definition.
I should also mention Spatial Video and Photos, taken by either the Vision Pro or an iPhone 15Max. They are amazing. Impossible to appreciate without the headset. This alone will get parents and dog owners into Apple Stores to book a demo. Very moving and immersive personal memories that transcend video or photos.

Thank you Pauls for sharing your experience. This truly is a game changer and the possibilities are endless. I want one.
A new thread needs to be started for the Apple Vision Pro for people’s experiences and updates of media as it becomes available.

This sort of thing was one of the things that my son said would be really cool. In his case it was to be able to fully take apart something, like a car, virtually. FWIW, the Cabot Science Center in Oakland had a full scale model of the mars rover. I can't tell from their site if they still have it (we probably saw it 4-6 years ago), but it said they have the "full-scale model of NASA’s Artemis rover". chabotspace.org/visit/exhibits/the-nasa-experience/But that's a huge value, of being able to see and experience things.

I didn't mention, but these VR models-- the mars lander, the F1` car, etc....are unbelievably detailed and photo-realistic, and when you remove a panel, or pull the engine, all the components and exposed new layers, in turn, are absolutely 'real' looking and it's just.... you forget that it's a simulation simulation. I can imagine people trying to sit on things that aren't there. Several times i've reached out to touch something. Or sitting in the Game of Thrones great hall before the Iron Throne, you can feel a chill draft in the air, even though I'm in my warm living room that is maybe 1/1000th of the size of the virtual space. Crazy.

I apologize for interrupting what seems to be the much deserved AVP lovefest, but I am reminded almost every day of what I consider to be Apple’s greatest invention - Touch ID. No matter how hard I try to keep my list of Passwords up to date, there inevitably comes a day, especially with advancing age, when I have to look up one which is seldom, or at least relatively not often, used. It is always available, even if that involves taking off a glove. I assume that Apple must have one or more patents to protect the invention, as I am not aware of another implementation.
