Someone has to start the weekend thread, it's already Sunday afternoon! Unfortunately, it was a down week. Not much else to say right now. Social media is making a big thing about AVPs being returned this weekend, but unless anyone has numbers, it's all anecdotal. As usual.

Thanks for starting the weekend thread mark. One thing I've been curious about is the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple watch. It's been on sale for a while now without the sensor but the Apple Vision Pro (rightly so) is hogging the press =).
I wonder, if the sensor is gone until the Apple Watch Series 10, which is rumored for a re-design this fall. Or it will come back as the legal battles bring a resolution, sooner than the Series 10 this fall? I did a quick search but didn't see many articles on the topic. Maybe everyone has moved on from this issue.

I was wondering if someone was going to start the weekend thread, or if we were to the point where we just didn't always need one.
Family coming up today for ski/skate week, so we're trying to clean. Even giving stuff away, mostly kids stuff or small furniture we no longer need, only half of it is gone. Our thrift stores are small and sometimes picky for what they will take, so it's always a kick to have a drive-thru donation drop off at one of the big ones in Reno, but even they didn't want a set of skis nor an exercise bike one time. I bet with AVPs we could just virtually delete it, though you'd probably have to be in full VR mode instead of AR.
I'd still like to hear what people like best and least about AVP, or what surprised you about them.

Maybe everyone has moved on from this issue. The limitation is only when buying directly from Apple, through the online or in person store, in the US. So if you buy one from Amazon, Best Buy, or Costco, it still has the feature. I've had one for about a month now, bought from Costco just after the ban started. Truthfully, I barely look at the oxygen blood saturation or EKG data. Or a whole bunch of other things, like gate analysis, breathing rate, or whatever. At the same time, that's part of the point of it, that the watch should just notify you if there is a problem, while looking at all of these various things. At the same time, I think an SE really would be all I need, but even though the Costco rep was pushing "try it out, and if you don't like it just return it within 90 days", I doubt I'll return it. It works decently. I'm bugged by some things, though a lot of it has to do with it being winter and so it is under a layer or two, so it just isn't really easier to use than my iPhone. It gets mad at me nearly every time I use a snow blower, alerting me of noise issues (it doesn't know I put on ear protection). I was planning on buying the version with a different band, but they only had the primary one in the store. But this band, that tucks under the extra material instead of a normal sports watch keeping it on the outside and having a belt loop, just bugs my wrist at times. And on my right wrist, it must have been pushing on the vein, so that even on a loose setting my hand would sometimes go numb. It tries to answer my calls, and had me answer some scammer, taking the call outside while I was in the middle of shoveling some dirt. It was giving me too much appreciation on filling my rings, making me think there was something important to check on while really it was just that I stood up (turned that off). And while I'd like to have it check up on me at night, I need the watch off me sometime to charge and to keep from having skin issues. And I haven't found a good solution for tracking skiing. If I use the watch's activity tracker, it credits me for time and calories, but doesn't track the route. If I use Strava on the iPhone, it tracks my route and time, but doesn't credit me the calories. I looked at the settings a bit, but haven't tried a Watch specific Strava app. OTOH, not every feature has to be for every person. It is a complex thing, with many many many settings and options, that aren't all easy to get to. Unlike most traditional Apple things where the options and functionality are distilled down to just the very few that are most important and useful, this it more the high end item that is nearly infinitely customizable. That is a trade off. I guess even a month in, I need to spend some time with it and set it up how I want it. But for me the biggest thing is if it gets me to exercise just a little bit more than normal, it is well worth it. And that's what it really comes down to, that the Watch is mostly a health device.

I've never used a traditional band (what Apple calls "sport band") with my watch. I only use the solo loop or aftermarket adjustable solo loop style. I find it to be secure as I use it all the time for swimming and other exercise. And, of course, I wear it 22 1/2 hours a day (used to be 23 hours a day, but now I need to charge twice a day due to battery degradation). In fact, I am about to change my loop from a cloth one to the silicone one because I am about to head to the gym.
