The week is over, and AAPL was up? Was it? For some reason the 1W choice on the stock app isn't as smart as I thought it was. It currently says the stock was down 96 cents for the week. And looking at my title from last week, which I'll fix right now (did anyone see it?), the math doesn't add up there either. Looking at Yahoo's historic quotes, I don't see what equation would give you a loss of 96 cents for the week, implying a former $173.58 price. finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/historyMaybe there is a dataset error? Or maybe it's just a bug. EDIT: Turns out that Apple has a way for developers to report bugs, at feedbackassistant.apple.comThis is happening on both iOS 17.3.1 and 17.4

I did not know this. I saw a low cost advertised phone plan that included an iPhone 12 !
Nice way for Apple to get new users.

I did not know this. I saw a low cost advertised phone plan that included an iPhone 12 ! Nice way for Apple to get new users. I just saw an ad about that too. There was also a story on the stock app about the older M1 version of the MacBook Air being available at Walmart for $699. Here it is, using the stock app on MacOS. It was on Seeking Alpha: stocks.apple.com/AGLl2au8xTRCWH7ekssiVtQIn some ways it seems wrong to sell old technology, but in other ways it makes a lot of sense. The negatives are selling 2-3 year old tech (they do this across most product lines now), and having to support the OS on that hardware for longer. The positives include that Apple doesn't have to develop a new product, has a tried and true product and production, can further spread those initial R&D and production setup costs, keeps the product line streamlined, and makes the upgrade/upsell options easier to understand.

This article is mostly about the push for ARM processors on the PC, and how Intel has the backup plan of being a foundry. But the part most applicable to Apple is that it's already been through the gauntlet of rejiggering the OS to work well with ARM, and getting more and more native apps, whereas it sounds like Microsoft and the ecosystem is still working on that process. Qualcomm's Powerful PC Chip Is Worse for AMD Than for IntelHere'e a little more info on the AI company Apple recently bought: Apple acquires AI startup specializing in overseeing manufacturing componentsThis is similar to the tools I used in the semiconductor fab 25 years ago. They would scroll to different places on the wafer, looking for a specific component, and then measure a width or distance. If it couldn't find it, it would start searching, I think in an outward spiral pattern. It would do this at many places over the wafer, such as the 4 points of the compass plus the center. The purpose was to look for differences, such as something in photolithography being out of focus, or part of the wafer being processed differently than the rest. In a way this is like baking a batch of cookies in an oven, without turning them, to see if there are any hot or cold spots on normal bake or convection. But a little more advanced. Just like the driving aid features, the first step is as a backup or addition to the human looking at it (in case the inspector misses something or is distracted), and an added benefit is that a device might see something people have trouble seeing (like oil from a finger print, before it collects dust). And with that I hear the auto vacuum (EUFY) is stuck on something. It has 2 places that it often gets stuck which I haven't modified yet, or there are shoelaces. But the fun one is cat toys. The cats seem much more acceptable of it these days, but sometimes I think they purposefully put certain string toys down on the carpet to sabotage it.

Wow! Ok, this is completely off topic. There's this crazy "Dublin Distance Fiesta" track meet in California this weekend, that some of our HS team is competing at, including 2 of our kids. Last year it set a world record for the most boys getting under a 5 minute 1600m, at 411. They just finished up, and this year it is 567 boys under 5 minutes! (60 heats of the boys 1600m, averaging about 22-25 per race but up to 29, and in the first 20 races there were no sub-5 times. That's a lot of fast runners) sites.google.com/dublinusd.org/dublincrosscountry/dublin-distance-fiesta?authuser=0Ahhh, it's fun to think back when I would have done pretty well there. Nice that the kids are out having a good time. I'll have to try to be there to watch next year.

My guess is this will involve special bands. My original Series 0 Apple watch had 3 little contacts in where the bands attach. It was assumed these contacts were where blood pressure and glucose monitoring bands would connect to. These contacts were gone when I upgraded to a Series 4 and they're not on my present Ultra 2. If we see them return on Series 10, then something is probably coming.
