I’m going to be curious to see just how large this “plunge” is. These doom stories are like clockwork before every earnings date.
And just how relevant is Samsungs messaging app? Third party apps like WhatsApp dominate on Android.

It's amazing how just a little bit of tweaking can make the same message sound so strange. Sadly, some of those likely aren't too far from the truth. I like to think that the Social one is just the stereotypical overly social media one, but I think I've seen a couple messages like that IRL. It'd be funny to see a Emoticon setting. Some people try to cram as many of those into a message as they can. But as odd as any of those choices sounded (the casual one's looked ok, but not really an improvement or change from the original), we've seen with stories made by generative AI of how much they can change in a short time. 6-9 months ago at least some of them were easy to pick out, putting too much emphasis on awkward sentence intros or specific facts. Now I don't see that much, though probably still would in some of the auto-generated ones like the "AAPL was down today, but still outperformed the market" info-dense "articles". FWIW, some spammer or bot put a message up that claimed a Pixel watch's AI could early detect cancer, so I went to the source to see what they claimed. There was nothing on that, but the list of features looks like a clone of the Apple Watch. One thing that stood out was something about Glucose Tracking, but footnote 31 makes it sound like it is just a place to input your numbers to then see, and there are no sensors listed that are related. store.google.com/us/magazine/google_pixel_watch_compare?hl=en-USIt's good to at least somewhat know what is out there. Like that those foldable Androids are around $2k, making generic complaints about the iPhone being so expensive seem a little off.

This awful Galaxy S24 feature is everything that’s bad about AI
Pretty sad if you have to have a computer compose or rewrite a message.

This awful Galaxy S24 feature is everything that’s bad about AI Pretty sad if you have to have a computer compose or rewrite a message. It depends on the situation. I was on a forum recently where there was a person that some felt posted great stuff, but others couldn’t get over seemingly unnecessary injections of politics. Maybe this type of feature could sanitize it sufficiently. Even better, what if the readers could select how they wanted to see the info? The text they gave wasn’t great, but how many years or more likely months are we from a time it could do it well?

That would eliminate the need for readers to select “how they wanted to see the info…and that’s a Win-Win.

As I said a few days ago, this is a failure of Apple's marketing and PR. Apple has been using AI and ML in its iPhone since 2017 when the on-chip Neural Engine was introduced. It's Samsung that should be ridiculed for being so late in the game…

On one of the boards back nearly 2 decades ago we had the person from Apple who wrote the summarize feature. This sort of thing basically does a summarize, and then stylize.

I continue to believe that AI is significantly over-hyped. For one, imagine if one of our posters uses AI to generate posts. We will begin to see pollution of posts, too much reading, but the board will appear alive. Ouch, bloat ! !

Okay, I discovered something on the board today and feel I need to share. I have a group of safari bookmarks in a folder at the top of Safari that I open in the morning and again later in the day. The bookmark for AFB is the 'Recently updated threads' page. In the past, I would review the dates over on the right and then click on the thread title to open that thread and then scroll down and down until I would get to the messages that I haven't read yet. Now, the bit I didn't know was that we can click over on the right on the '53 minutes ago' to jump to the bottom-most post in that thread. That's all. Hope at least one person finds this helpful.

It's good to at least somewhat know what is out there. Like that those foldable Androids are around $2k, making generic complaints about the iPhone being so expensive seem a little off. Does anyone still sell foldable phones? They seem to have almost entirely disappeared. I think I saw galaxy z fold phone for a really low price a while back, like under 500 bucks as I recall. Fire sale?

Fire sale? Looks like they do. Picking one of the major carriers, I went with t-mobile and clicking on phones, and then priced high to low. The "Galaxy Z Fold5" came up at the top, at $1799 if paying in full. But with promotions it is marked down from $75 a month (24 months) to $33. www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phones?INTNAV=tNav%3ADevices%3ACellPhonesI see several other foldables on the first page, though they are smaller flip sized ones instead of big ones to get a near-tablet size when unfolded. But the non-folding 256g Galaxy S24 Ultra is $100 more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, at $1299 vs $1199 (looks like most of their promotions drop the prices by $800 or a little more, but spread out over 24 months). I just get tired sometimes of so many people complaining about the prices, as if the iPhone was the most expensive or the only one that is in the $800 and up category. It's nice to check up and see what is out there, even if it is better to stop by a physical store.
