This is where someone is going to update their Power Mac G4 Cube to a M1 Mac Mini. This video shows the amazing miniaturization magic that Apple has performed on this device. Surprisingly the case could have been much smaller than it is. M1 Mac Mini TeardownAbout 8 minutes long. And this is where he talks about his goal. M1 Chip in a 20 year old G4 CubeAbout 8.5 minuets long.

Some of those old Mac cases really have some style to them. I still have a few of them, like a quicksilver tower, a G4 Cube, a Mac Mini (I liked the case), plus a few specialty things like a 128k, Mac Portable, and some prototype stuff.
I keep being tempted to build something in to them. My son built a gaming PC, and it would have been great to put into the Quicksilver case. But there is only so much time in the day, and only so much need for additional projects.
I did have some iBook parts that I was going to put into a picture frame. But I guess the idea was going to be what iPads are these days, a fairly small and unobtrusive footprint for a picture viewer or recipe viewer (though an iPad can be used for a lot more than that). Surprisingly I got rid of the iBook parts at some point, but the frame might still be used to hold some wood carvings.
His video was from 3 years ago with the M1, but a M2 Mac Mini or even future Mac Mini should work too. There's refurb M2 Mac Minis starting at $509.

I’ve always loved the Power Mac G4 MDD design. I think that it was Apple design at its best. Functional eye candy. I’ve been considering gutting a G4 MDD internally and hiding a new Mac Mini inside and using it as my main desktop. The only obstacle I can think of is access to the power button on the Mini as I would like to use the original Power Mac button. I may give it a try once I get caught up on everything else on my list. But about the tear down video. I was expecting the case of the Mac Mini to be stuffed full of all the necessary components with no room to spare and was surprised to find so much space. I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised considering all that can be stuffed into an iPhone or watch. Technology is truly amazing.
