We closed RIGHT on the daily SMA-20. Just to keep things as painfully ambiguous as possible!! Argh!!

This is right up there with believing in Santa Claus and Easter Bunnies. I sure hope people are not going to risk their hard earned money because they believe that this scenario will play out for reasons other than pure luck. RE: Avi's WAGs. He is probably the luckiest guy I know. Every time I turn around, there he goes being lucky again! (Plus, there's a little Fibonacci math involved...)

I use to think that TA was just a self fulfilling prophecy. I am now starting to slowly understand it's significance.

Thanks, put buyers. 435 open interest is tied. Ties go to the call lemmings. That is all. Good to have you back, JD!

On smaller timeframes, the intraday action doesn't look so bad. Though it'll probably take until Monday to get more clues, that 418.9 >> closing reversal was helpful.
No Fib warning levels breached yet, and 418-420 support level held (it helps that there was substantial put OI at that level, I guess) - so trend remains UP for now IMHO. I'm betting on a little mild panic by the machines and traders noticing some potential resilience in the MACD-h daily, among other things.
But I gotta say - am I the only one here who almost feels like a "contrarian" being bullish on AAPL these days? (/sarcasm) Sheesh!

I know some people think I may full of bullish-it seems. I planned on buying more in the $420s, but I missed out.

A 418 low, if it holds, is a 61.8%+ retention of previous run up. It also sets up a nice potential IHS, with what looks to my very amateur eye to have a decent MM up potential.
My 2c - although the 465-418 drop was galling, if we maintain a strong bounce from here and sentiment can regather itself, we could still be in pretty decent shape.

Why does the media keep forgetting that Apple has been accruing deferred tax liability this entire time? That would make Apple one of the most "transparent" "tax dodgers" in all of tech. Better than 8% tax Google. IIRC - and please correct me if I'm wrong - Apple's true net income would be quite different if it could reach a better income repatriation deal. Not sure about deferred tax liability vs. cash tho. Apple has "booked" taxes as though all foreign profits have repatriated, then not paid them because the profits have not been repatriated. The "unpaid" taxes are shown on the balance sheet as a contingent liability, contingent because the liability does not become due unless and until those profits are ever repatriated. Now if Apple and our socialist government ever come to an agreement on what is a "fair" tax on repatriated funds, Apple will be able to reclaim the difference between the corporate tax rate, and the amount (rate) Apple and the government agreed to as profit. The total of actual tax paid on the repatriated funds and the amount reclaimed as profit will be deducted from the total of the contingent liability. Cash will be reduced by the agreed tax paid. Apple's effective tax rate in the quarter that happens will decline significantly. Apple repatriated foreign profits during FQ4/2005. When it occurred, Apple's effective tax rate dropped to 10.04% for that quarter.

The market is setting up for a major pullback. Every indicator shows the market being extremely expensive. I would shocked if this rally can even last another week at this pace of rise. It is going up too fast too soon. The market IMHO is starting to look like AAPL at 700 overhyped and too optimisitic. The question becomes when the market dips what will weak old AAPL do? Everyone has been saying that for the last two months. I think a pullback is still in order, but I don't think it's going to be much. Doc, I'm with you. I absolutely thought a normal, healthy correction was underway. Nope. Wrong, wrong, wrong. No idea when it happens, or how much. I just know that I'm not stepping in front of that train.

About deferred tax liability, quick clarification. Apple has two classes of deferred tax liability, one which it thinks it's 50% or so likely to repatriate at some point, and one which it, well, doesn't ("unrecognized deferred tax liability"). The two classes of deferred tax liability are roughly equal in size.
Technically, Apple probably has over $30B in total deferred tax liability by now, but even the media doesn't make too much hay out of it because anyone with a lick of common sense knows that a $150B+ multinational corporation kinda needs to keep reinvesting profits in its regional operations. Yup, it's probably good to keep some acorns stored in Greater China and other regions.

I promise to invest more when I'm an attending. I have a daughter who is finishing her third year of residency in june, in family practice medicine. I know what they pay you, the hours you put in and the long haul to become a Doctor during residency. She signed last summer with the local hospital for 5 years who are paying $1500 monthly toward her school debt., $15000 signing bonus, payed malpractice insurance and a $150000 salary. Since then a local family practice doctor made a deal with said hospital to lease her for his practice because of a departing Physician. Of course its not all about the money and hard work. Its the satisfaction of being somebody and doing good things for your patients and the locality in general.. Congratulations!

Above post BOOKMARKED for future reference. JD - did you ever get that blog started? I remember you saying you were going to collaborate on it with Rocco Pendejo. Yeah, well we hit a snag. We had Alex Gauna and Ed Zabitsky and Walter Piecyk all lined up as talent, and we were ready to launch, but then this young hotshot David Trainer came along, and we are still negotiating a deal to land him. If Trainer got away, it would be like Cleveland losing LeBron.
