Nikkei went on a tear today (up about 3.3%), other markets not necessarily feeling the same enthusiasm.
Will a good jobs number catapult AAPL with the rest of the market (that does assume the market reacts positively, of course) or will OpEx strike again like always?
455ish is a pretty decent Friday close IMHO, 460 could be last week's Friday, albeit with inherently higher risk.

If you want some amusement, check out the whining over at Android Central on the new Moto X. If this site is representative of the kind of juveniles that Android attracts, then it is no wonder the Android ecosystem under delivers so badly on financial performance. The amount of whining and entitlement re specs and pricing is hilarious.

If this site is representative of the kind of juveniles that Android attracts, then it is no wonder the Android ecosystem under delivers so badly on financial performance. The amount of whining and entitlement re specs and pricing is hilarious. The same whining can be heard on many a Apple fanboy site .... just wait until Apple's upcoming launch and I guarantee you will hear it. That said ... I'm a little surprised to hear so much bashing of the Moto X. I'm a DIE HARD Apple guy to the core and wouldn't even consider switching ... yes I've ingested the Kool Aid but I have to say the phone looks pretty nice and there are some cool features I wish my iPhone had. Ultimately I think it's a case of "Too Little Too Late" for Moto but it's success or failure won't be decided on internet geek forums. Most people don't have a clue what their screen pixel count is ? (What the hell is a pixel ?) nor what fancy processor runs their phone ... they just care what it does. And being able to control the phone with voice without touching anything appeals to many ... myself included. Being able to "customize" the look is gimmicky but I can totally see it catching on as people's cell phones are now a fashion item. The fact it can be customized and delivered in less than 4 days is no easy feat. I have a feeling there is a HUGE segment of people out there who are more interested in that than some of the technical aspects. At least it looks a little innovative .. yes inspired by iPhone (what smartphone these days isn't ?) and I'm hoping they take much of Samsung's market share and fragment the Android platform even further.

Maybe I have been drinking bowls of the punch as well but for me it really is not all about the phone but the beauty of the ecosystem is a big deal....and nobody does it better than AAPL...maybe a little too much Carly Simon swirling in my head this morning but.... Nobody does it better Makes me feel sad for the rest Nobody does it half as good as you AAPL, you're the best

I don't agree about customization, but we'll see.
This is all about the misguided notion that choice, or in this case, a -great deal- of choice, is a good thing. You don't want to give people all of those decisions, they will just ignore it and walk away.
Buying an iPhone? You have 2 visual choices, black or white. Choice doesn't impact or fragment your buying decision. You also don't have to worry about putting together something that looks bad or that you'll tire of, or that will look dated. Your post purchase choice is easy - a case, if you want one - and you can easily slip into another whenever you like.
The one shot I saw of the wood grained back mingled with white plastic edging looked awful. Maybe they should add a faux shag carpet back choice in different colors, too.

Really crappy jobs report across the board. But the market doesn't care because it just means more fed stimulus!

Fed even seems to be side stepping to eyeing inflation. Which continues to be virtually non existent ( for now )

Any thoughts on this last breaking news proposal re the DOJ vs. AAPL on eBooks?

I thought this excerpt sounded worrisome, "Apple will also be prohibited from entering into agreements with suppliers of e-books, music, movies, television shows or other content that are likely to increase the prices at which Apple’s competitor retailers may sell that content."
That could be interpreted several ways.

That could be interpreted several ways. Looks like it's going to be a free for all amongst the content providers. Looks like Amazon pulled the "nuke Apple's ecosystem" switch. There is a bad smell here and it's not coming from Apple. On a related subject the ITC have delayed Apple's case against Samsung by 9 days - conveniently pushing it beyond the iPhone 4 import ban. Not wanting to put on a tin foil hat but there also seems to be pressure coming from unexpected places.

Price is Truth.
Fairly early but also looking relatively strong.

Also, $150B+ is kinda big for a cult favorite electronics/software company. Apple deserves its due and its rightful criticism.

Puts at 455. Call wall at 460. Per aaplpain. Market turning strong would be only potential punch through

This has got to be the most ridiculous proposal from the DOJ in the history of the US. JD, I will return to Boston to look for that cemetery in which the US Constitution is buried.

Just following the action here and there. For now, higher highs and holding 455 seems constructive to me as AAPL rebuilds macro composure.

The DOJ looks more like a political organization than a judicial body. Very heavy handed.

Some "settlement".
Luckily Apple has more than enough resources to fight this "on principle".

Seems to me Apple would have some comment on this settlement offer. Hopefully they'll engage a high priced wordsmith to come up with something like "stick it where the sun don't shine."

There is something sinister going on with this justice department and I'm really, to put it mildly, pissed off about it.

We can probably kiss $455+ today thanks to the DOJ and the talking heads who are sure to take it more seriously than it deserves.

Ya, that is interesting. I was going to spend some time digging this weekend to see if I could find a connection between Samsung and SA. The whole situation just has that smell about it.

Guy Kawasaki was on Comcast's CNBC in the restaurant (don't ever watch it at home). He was hawking the Moto-X.
It was so pathetic that I honestly felt sorry for him. The phone is pathetic, he was pathetic, and CNBC is odious.

The phone is pathetic, he was pathetic, and CNBC is odious. Odious is THE word. I saw a clip on my phone this morning. Carlos gave him a pass given all the thrashing Moto X is taking. There's got to be a backstory to Kawasaki working for Google, not that Apple wanted him. Apple treated him well during his years there and this is his version of appreciation? Google isn't Apple and Guy knows that DNA isn't so easily transplanted.

"Price is truth" makes my head explode. It's like saying, "everything is up" or "everything happens for a reason." It confers no predictive value and has zero information content, but I've noted TA practitioners (at least part time ones) favor it because when there's no explanation for something, it's another way of saying "it is what it is," which is more about acceptance (which I much prefer). End of hissy spasm. AAPL is trading well despite DOJ's myopia.
