Tim just gave us a clue as to eps for dec ending quarter:
Cook: Last quarter, we haven’t announced numbers, but I can tell you that last quarter we sold more iPhones in Greater China than at any time in our past. And so it was a record quarter, helped by launching China very first in the queue [launching new iPhones at the same time as the U.S.]

CNBC keeps running the tease on the TC interview .... they keep saying they are going to show it.

China Mobile saying the pre-orders are in the millions according to this interview....this is gonna get wild .... just waiting to get the cue when we need the bigger boat. Isaacson on now. He's saying that the greatest innovation is coming from GOOG today and they are integrating all their products. Did I miss the memo? Did GOOG actually invent something earth shattering? Thought they were an advertising company. He thinks NEST acquisition is bigger than the CHL news. I didn't realize Isaacson - due to his interview with SJ - became an actual expert in technology. Isaacson also saying that China Mobile is Tim's baby. SJ never even went to China and so this is his mark on the company. Isaacson says now TC needs to change the Board because this is SJ's board....and he needs to come out with the "Holy Cow" product in order to really make this his company.

1.2M, or millions? Makes a difference. Early media reports are always "fun".

They will turn whatever they feel like to drive viewership. Underlying reality is of no interest to them. They should be neither bullish nor bearish. Their job is to report the facts. They stopped doing that job a long time ago when they turned into cheap entertainers.

Don't kid yourself - CNBC is still negative - their anchors are tweeting out and are being re-tweeted by Blodget : Google/Nest is actually a bigger deal than Apple/China, says @walterisaacson. "An amazingly strong, integrated strategy." $GOOG $AAPL
THAT was all they got out of the entire interview with TC and Isaacson. Unreal.

Yes. But the market at some point gets greedy vs fearful of what some book author says. You should see that today

A shipment, as in one shipment of 1.2 million. Remember that at one point estimates ranged up to 500,000 iPhones per day being produced by Foxconn.

Ernst from Hudson Park saying on CNBC that AAPL will (in this calendar year 2014) come out with a disruptive product. He is convinced of it. Hallelujah brotha! I believe it too! (too much coffee today, sorry)

I don't like being 'Debbie Downer' here but I'm skeptical about this rise. We've seen this many times recently, especially with CM related news.
If we rise above 570 and stay above then we're talkin'!

THAT was all they got out of the entire interview with TC and Isaacson. Unreal. Remember when Issacson and Cramer spoke together at Bucknell a couple of years ago, which prompted Cramer to go bearish on AAPL? At the time, Issacson told Cramer that AAPL has nothing left post SJ, and Cramer took this and ran with it for a while, teling this story on the air a few times. Perhaps Issacson is sub-consciously trying to save face on this prediction. The only rationale I can think of is that the Nest thermostat represents a new product - compared to AAPL/CM, which is "just" a marketing story - so in his mind, he looks good on what he told Cramer. And, perhaps, Nest has created a whole line of new products spun off the T-stat, which are in the pipeline. Until I see a new product from AAPL, Issacson's story is still believable.

Yes, I remember this all too well. They still need to come out with something - I agree. But other nuggets from that interview are that 57% of mobile browsing in China comes from an iOS device as per TC...and that is BEFORE a deal with China Mobile. Also, iPhone sales hit a record high in Greater China in Apple's FQ1. In FQ4, it generated revenue of $5.73B. The firms expect the iPhone deal between the companies to lead to broader co-operation. This is all good and better than anticipated.

But this CM rollout looks to be more than just another marketing deal.
More than handsets, clear cooperation, distribution.....once mature it has enormous implications..
I like my Nest, but hey......

Piper confident in iPhone China estimate after pre-orders comment:
Piper Jaffray said it has greater confidence in its 3M iPhone units estimate from China Mobile (CHL) in Apple's (AAPL) March quarter after the phone network's Chairman noted that it received "several million" pre-orders since December. Piper continues to expect Apple to guide 2% ahead of Street expectations for the March quarter due to the China Mobile launch.

To me the primesense acquisition is lot more meaningful then the thermostat deal... not sure why there was so little written about that ..

Actually, I don't think that Steve Jobs was an expert in technology either; he was an expert on the human interface with technology, which is what it takes to lead a great tech company. Issacson may have been right about Apple not having anything in the immediate pipeline; after all, disruptive technologies are incredibly hard to give birth to, and they aren't conceived easily.
I agree with Issacson that Nest is bigger than CM, because the latter will just bring APPL to a slightly higher plateau, while Nest could unleash a spate of new disruptive products for Google. Unless, of course, they soil their Nest.
Apple should have purchased Nest; it should have been a perfect fit. Instead, it appears that we will just get bigger screens on the same old products this year, except for a smaller screen on the watch.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying this rise.

I agree with much of what you said. If Apple thought the Nest product was good enough to sell it surprises me they did not try to acquire the company. The other strategy would be to license technology that helps all kinds of products integrate with the smart home concept instead of building the actual products ... let's see if that is where they are headed.
I always keep in mind what Jobs said about hundreds of "NO's" for every "Yes" and in the end Apple is not in the thermostat biz ...or refrigerator or toaster or lighting ...etc......
With all of this BS of lack of innovation it's good to remember what Apple has done in the last 7 years alone .... EVERY tablet looks like a iPad, EVERY smartphone looks like a iPhone.
Google hasn't innovated shit on the hardware side and I think Issacson is not informed enough to start commenting on the tech world. The only thing Google has done well is copy Apple.
