Re/Code is in bed now with CNBC. So, bear that in mind now when reading their content.

YES! It is!They are just reporting the facts. The CNBC story has a lot of rumors 1.2 million "pre orders" mentioned elsewhere. I thought that number measured "interest" without a certain price. Are they all preorders? The Chinese may now have a certain price. That price seems rather high.

I agree with much of what you said. If Apple thought the Nest product was good enough to sell it surprises me they did not try to acquire the company. The other strategy would be to license technology that helps all kinds of products integrate with the smart home concept instead of building the actual products ... let's see if that is where they are headed. I always keep in mind what Jobs said about hundreds of "NO's" for every "Yes" and in the end Apple is not in the thermostat biz ...or refrigerator or toaster or lighting ...etc...... With all of this BS of lack of innovation it's good to remember what Apple has done in the last 7 years alone .... EVERY tablet looks like a iPad, EVERY smartphone looks like a iPhone. Google hasn't innovated shit on the hardware side and I think Issacson is not informed enough to start commenting on the tech world. The only thing Google has done well is copy Apple. Some great points. One other possibility is that, even though the NEST T-stat might be elegant in design, AAPL plans to leapfrog it as part of a holistic approach to home management, either with its own design (which would only require a temperature sensor, and could be wireless) or that of a third party.

Is it possible that we end above 550 by Friday after all?
I did well with my 540/550 expiration bet... now am considering a 560/550 bearish bet for Friday...

Some yesterday were suggesting selling covered calls at 550 if we popped at open. Did anyone do it?

its funny last january i opened the 530/550 jan '14 call spread (along with 630/650, 730/750 haha). I of course panicked-->held for a while--> finally got green-->eventually legged it out to an april spread about 1-2 months ago.
but if i just sat on my hands itd be almost full value right now

Not that anyone cares but I doubled down on some 565/555 Bear spreads. With the price I got, these would have a breakeven at 559 on Friday, and a full 66% gain at 555. The 560/550 Bear spreads I got earlier have a breakeven at 556 and a full 150% gain at 550. However, depending on the action on Thursday and beginning of Friday, I don't necessarily plan to hold all the way to the end of Friday.

"until AAPL sees sustained 550+, a move to 570+, which probably will coincide with some catalytic event from who knows where...I'm thinking some strange kind of range-y, consolidation purgatory"
catalytic event from who knows where LOL
One reason why I'm focusing more on fundamentals for the *cough* short term. Though I mean hey, it IS earnings season after all.

I would guess China Mobile announces on Monday or Tuesday iPhone sales from over the weekend. Anyone willing to venture a guess? Millions preordered according to China Mobile CEO Xi Guo-hua. Being a conservative old man I guess 1,200,001.

You have to admit that it is somewhat discouraging that a deal with China Mobile and extremely positive comments from Tim Cook and we are still somewhat range bound. We always spoke about the China Mobile deal BEING one of the catalysts. It should have been ... it IS a big deal but still no major follow through. Instead, the media parades out Walter Isaacson who gives kudos to GOOG for their acquisition of Nest and people say, "Hey, where's the innovation...and yeah by the way....larger screens on iPhones and iPads doesn't come under the category of innovation!" It's difficult to argue. I'm grateful for today's rise but am not convinced that the wall of $550 on Friday is not something to be reckoned with....I think it is. TC demonstrated that he was the genius operations guy that SJ thought he was and executed beautifully .... but what excites the street right now is innovation. They adore Elon Musk...they love the GOOG acquisitions ... they got a kick out of Bezos and his drones....they are amused and bedazzled. Are they right? TC still has promises to fulfill...but the year is young.
For a laugh: Ronnie Moas is going to be on CNBC Fast Money. He's the guy on meds who downgraded AAPL to a sell due to moral reasons. Now he is going after AMZN. It's not news....it's a comedy show and if you feel like having a little laugh just watch it and enjoy.

I've heard millions too many times to think 1.2-1.4M iPhones is it.
Could be bullish in a big way considering "consensus" (IIRC) wasn't far from 3-4M sold to China Mobile customers. PER QUARTER.
But we need numbers or guidance to "prove it" first, same as always...

For the record Phoebear, the ONLY reason I give CNBC any credit today is because they got the scoop on subsidies. Yes, doubters, they DO exist. Does Xi Guohua have to spell it out for ya?! (I mean he basically did in the CNBC interview...)

If there were 1.2 million as of a few days ago, then fulfilling those orders, plus orders for the next couple of weeks and the upcoming Chinese New Year, should be safe to say "millions" (ie 3 million +) of deliveries within the next 2-3 weeks.

Seriously, this board is worthless, except for JD and his cool vet. Yahoo message board is more informative.... When was the last time you've contributed anything informative? Was it ever? All you say is that you're selling and diversifying to much greener pastures. Maybe you should find another more "informative" board on your new pasture search.

Probably when I said Cypress (the country) had no influence on AAPL stock price.
But I was rudely corrected by lovemyipad for spelling. But hey, what do I know.

If we go above 575, then don't dip below 529, new ATH before the year ends. Should know if this is the case within three weeks.
