It is 7:49am in Beijing and Shanghai right now. AI reporting fully subsidized phones on CHL. Zero up front cost. How can the rat bastards put a negative spin on this?

Not sure how you arrive at 895M diluted shares, but my 898M is close enough.
Although I expect a solid earnings report and guidance, I'm growing increasingly skeptical that WS changes its attitude toward Apple. There's even a chance GOOG becomes the new AMZN, with support from the media, analysts and "market pros," constructing an unlimited runway with which to conquer the internet in the way Amazon is expected to dominate all retail.
Fundamentals are relevant for professional business valuation guys, not WS hacks who lack the credentials to value a $1M company, much less a $500B company. It's truly bizarre that Maynard Um can issue a research note downgrading Apple when this guy lacks the experience to run a two pitcher lemonade stand.
Apple, Inc. is a great American company, but you would never know it from Wall Street nor the media whoring itself outside in with its speculative reporting, biased to the negative.

I wonder what percentage of the manufacturing price accounts for shipping each iPhone to the U.S. Obviously this should add a little to the margins of the phones sold in China .... not sure how much to expect or if it's really that significant ?

Technically, the subsidy is in the form of refund payments over time after the subscriber puts down a "security deposit", IF it's being reported accurately. No up-front cost for the iPhone. Subscriber has to make the payments to get the deposit back. Net effect IS a fully subsidized iPhone but after 2-year contract (probably sooner if there's a 3-year contract?). So it's a different system over there. Of course, add FUD and you can spin anything out of anything. CHECK IT OUT: CHINA MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS STILL COUGH UP $900 FOR IPHONE UNDER MOST EXPENSIVE "SUBSIDIZED" PLAN. Y'know?

I think you're being too negative on this one, actually. Sure, the negativity will never go away, but quite a few Apple headwinds just aren't there anymore, especially on the fundamentals side. The biggest being margins.

Pretty cool day for Chinese Apple nerds. Some got their phones signed by Xi Guohua and Tim Cook.
