Good morning folks ~ A few AAPL comments this morning - please note that it is speculation/conjecture nothing very concrete but fairly positive: From Seeking Alpha: "Recently there has been talk that Apple (AAPL) is stuck in a trading range until a major catalyst is announced...... it appears that Apple is going to enter the Mobile Payment Processing business. Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley, who has a history of making good calls According to research delivered to clients on Wednesday by Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba, the iPhone 6 and Apple’s new phablet will probably launch this coming July rather than in September or October, as most are expecting." (For article: seekingalpha.com/article/2053153-evidence-that-apple-intends-to-start-mobile-payment-processing?isDirectRoadblock=false&source=email_rt_article_readmore&uprof=46 ) From bgr.com: "According to research delivered to clients on Wednesday by Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba, the iPhone 6 and Apple’s new phablet will probably launch this coming July rather than in September or October, as most are expecting." (For article: bgr.com/2014/02/26/iphone-6-release-date-july-mizuho/ ) Again, many on technical sites are looking for a strong bounce from the $515 area - we'll see. Don't forget Yellen speaks at 10:00 a.m. - could move the market (even though she may not say anything different but heaven forbid she uses a different adjective - every word is measured. It reminds me of my old english class when we use to dissect a sentence structure on a diagram. I think people do that to her every sentence and then buy / sell based on the slightest discrepancy. Insane. Enjoy the day....

Yep all these technicians saying the same - it's definitely the area to watch and tomorrow is the Shareholder Meeting. It's at a perfect inflection point to coincide with any new or lack thereof. We are in that shaded part of the Venn diagram where it all comes together (potentially).

Any ideas why we are getting this bump? Movement ahead of the meeting and in opposition to the poor man's algo feels like good news that got out early. Increased dividend or (dare I hope) a 10:1 stock split?

Increased dividend or (dare I hope) a 10:1 stock split? I'm curious as well .... it could just be technicals. I'm confident we will see increased dividends but as far as a split goes I don't see the point. I was one of those that was calling for a split thinking the high price per share was holding the stock back .... Google and Priceline pretty much destroyed my argument. Maybe Apple could have started buying again ?

From Tech Crunch: Apple Details Touch ID And The A7′s Secure Enclave In Updated iOS Security DocumentWhile protecting the personal information on an iPhone is certainly an important objective, it seems pretty clear (at least to me) that the intent is to fry much bigger fish using this technology. I wonder if the release of this information heralds a forthcoming announcement about payments. Pretty quiet around here for an outstanding UP day. Guess everyone must be burned out from the recent spate of political bickering.

AAPL dropping down on the Selling on Strength list. Selling on StrengthMoney flows down to -1.2 million. Ratio at 1 ($ spent on up ticks/$ spent on down ticks). Block trades still heavily made on down ticks, could mean large block purchases still represent poor sentiment. I am in inching more and more to buying AAPL.

Would be pretty nice to see this hold until the close .... why ? I have no idea other than up is better than down : )
I'm really getting tired of watching this stock ..... can't believe I'm saying this but when we get the next big bump ...IF I should say .... it's time to sell at least 75% of my position.

From the BBY earnings call: seekingalpha.com/article/2054033-best-buy-co-s-ceo-discusses-q4-2014-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=singleSo as we discussed in our holiday sales call, the fourth quarter was an environment of declining retail traffic, intense promotion, fewer holiday shopping days, and severe weather. It was also an environment of weaker than expected industry sales in the consumer electronics category, in an environment of evolving consumer behavior, as the customer’s affinity for online shopping continued to escalate. ....... Most notably, we have increased domestic online sales for the year by 20%, which significantly increased our price competitiveness, and have rolled out ship from store to more than 1,400 locations. We have opened 1,400 Samsung and 600 Windows stores within a store, and completed the first phase of our floor space optimization.

Chuck Jones on Forbes is specuiating (without much stated justification) that the retirement of Oppy will be announced at the shareholder meeting. Just thought I would provide a moment of joy for some members of the board.

... it appears that Apple is going to enter the Mobile Payment Processing business ... This one is BIG. Once more concrete evidence is out, must long some OTM calls aggressively.

Just thought I would provide a moment of joy for some members of the board. No clue how AAPL would respond. Your view? CFO's are reporters of operating results, not creators of operating results. If they have a good replacement, and this is a simple retirement, then it should be a non event.

I bought this morning on the strength of some good rumors, after having been out of AAPL since just after earnings. I meant to sell before the close, but lost track of time. To paraphrase Jack Twist, "I wish I knew how to quit you, AAPL!"

Just thought I would provide a moment of joy for some members of the board. No clue how AAPL would respond. Your view? Oppy's retirement (whether it is announced or not) should not affect the stock. They hired his replacement a year ago, remember? So they are clearly in a transition period anyway. To be frank, maybe someone new would have more creative ideas with the cash so who knows - could be positive. I'm convinced today was technical in nature but we'll see. Max Pain was at $525 earlier in the week - haven't looked at it recently. I agree with Mace that Mobile Payments would be so damn huge but I keep seeing that many companies are also working on it. Yes, yes, I know - AAPL's will be better than all the rest - but I feel like we are often playing catch-up to some degree. Let's see what tomorrow brings but I'm thankful for a good day.

If Oppenheimer leaves, no big deal. Wipfler and Maestri are right behind him.
Good CFO for Apple, but either held back by Apple's secretive culture re: communication with Wall Street, OR just incredibly cagey by nature.
Not like Oppenheimer much cares what others think of him. He seems like an "Apple mission" guy and he served that role well.
