I am expecting AAPL over the next couple of days to catch up with the upper BB on the daily - which is currently 689ish. Of course with this parabolic rise of AAPL the last several days, the upper BB will move up as well. Plato, I am wondering which time-frame you are looking at? I am showing the upper BB on the daily to be 692.xx and on the weekly to be 705.xx The daily upper BB was moving down so Friday and today is just to reverse the curve. No calculations, but I am thinking the upper BB on the daily tomorrow should move up to 697+ and Wednesday should be 703ish.

Just love the way FUDsters keep on posting, but seems they are looking more ridiculous as Apple keeps performing. For example, this headline... "iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Blow The Doors Off—But Is Apple Losing Its Edge?"

"iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Blow The Doors Off—But Is Apple Losing Its Edge?" Motley Fool had a similar headline. The story is mainly a bull story but why the FUD headline ? "Will Apple continue to defy gravity ?" Link omitted. and Welcome to recent arrivals (basically all of us). EDIT: 115 (not 99) members registered.

It ain't defying gravity when the world's best-performing company trades at an S&P average multiple, folks.
The pundits will never fail to provide good laughs. They often fail to buy AAPL, though.

99? Forum stats say 115.
AAPL down a buck from where I added. I'll manage.

I'm sure there is a logical reason but why doesn't AAPL as a company get the respect of a higher multiple? Is there a specific reason? Everyone (analysts and PM's) say it is "cheap" so what gives? Any theories on this?....Cliff Note version responses please.

Can't help thinking of Mrs. Howell from Gilligan's Island. Maybe its appropriate since the Howells were wealthy investors. Mmmmmmmmm, Ginger. Mmmmmmmmmm, Mary Ann Ah, what the heck, its an island, Ginger & Mary Ann. With Gilligan hiding in the bushes and watching. Shudder...

Hey everyone I am a long time reader of AFB and a long term aapl investor common/options, but I never post messages, haha. I enjoy all the personalities in the group and think it is really important for the group to maintain some cohesiveness since the update, as your thoughts help many people outside the group understand aapl and the group is kinda like a mini tribal group which is cool. I live in Canada, and I am a Scientist and Lawyer but also love investing in apple. I joined the new AFB2 as I just wanted to pose a question to anyone who cares to answer.
"Did anyone else expect a higher pre orders number than 2 million for the first day?"
I have ordered my iphone 5 already. But I felt 2 million seemed light considering the demand I know there is for iphone5 and also most are projecting 100 million plus iphones sold in 2012, so I expected more like 5 to 7 million for the first day. I am just wondering what anyone else in the group thought thank you for all the great information

Marc, I think the difference is that you are using the BB SMA (that's what I assume at least), but I am using the BB EMA. But even using the SMA, I expect AAPL to catch up with the upper BB (i.e. fall into the BB range again) shortly. This could be around in the 690-693 area by tomorrow. As for the time frame, it doesn't matter whether you're using a 3, 6 or 9 month daily chart, the upper BB is always the same.

Doubt over Cook's leadership, neatly replacing doubt over Steve's leadership. The media's obsession with casting Apple as faddish, snobby, out of touch, overly controlling, etc. But...uh...it's hard to complain about AAPL's price action YTD, though the ride hasn't been smooth. Of course, that's high beta.

They showed a count on CNBC and it moved almost as fast as the U.S. deficit increase per second

Apple's revenues will be greater than 1% of the GDP of the entire US soon, if it isn't already. That's kind of ridiculous.

His observation is that Apples been doubling their production from the prior year for the past few years. Given that context it sounds about right.

Hey BillH!
We're almost at Population: 120. Impressive. I doubt iPad imagined how crowded this place would get at this point in time.
As for Dediu, pretty much agree. I do disagree with some of his generalizations from time to time. Such as the notion that Apple's smartphone business is a "skimming strategy".

Plato Thanks, I was probably overestimating how many people would use online ordering day 1. I love the new phone and think it’s going to be huge. Do you have any thoughts on the total number of phones that will be sold by next Tuesday September 25th? Post opening weekend, Including apple online, carriers and apple retail sales?

As for Horace, his skimming theory is reflective of spending time in Harvard's B school. My brother's a Chicago grad and shows many of the same tendencies. Seems neither institution had a naming convention for "let's make the best damn product we know how and see how many we can sell". ;D

That's a tough one - it could be anywhere from 6-10 Mio phones. I personally tend to believe it will be closer to 10 Mio. I think next weekend will be also huge for Apple when then actually start selling the iPhone 5.

O.k. One complaint about the new forum. We need more women...lots more women. The roster here reminds me of a Star Trek convention. Lovey, phoebes.....why don't the ladies love Apple? . You just need to know how to talk to the ladies.

Well I really thought AAPL would break $700 this morning based on pre-market. I had some bids in to buy back the shorts and sell lower shorts on 2 BCSs(see below) to pull some cash out and raise the % payout. Not filling these today.
Jan 13 665/680 turn into Jan 13 665/670s. Jan 13 685/700 turn into Jan 13 685/690s.
Well there is always tomorrow.

Why wouldn't it be?
Apple has to "prove itself". Again. For the millionth time. That's usually how it goes.
Now, AAPL _could_ get over 700, maybe, on a decent up day in the markets. To get over 700 sustainably, the doubt over Apple's rate of sales and/or ability to handle initial demand needs to be lifted (for WS and everyone else who doesn't follow AAPL as closely) IMHO. Give it 'til next Monday or Tuesday for initial sales numbers.
