Good morning...it's amazing how things can be virtually the same from one day to another and yet market investors worry one day- dragging the market down - and are enthusiastic the next day rallying the market - with no literally no substantive news to substantiate it. Gold is up $11 this morning - just under $1358 - crazy. So I guess it's worry Wednesday with all pretty much red including our fruit company. But hey, forget about PM as we all know - let's watch the open and of course, the close. It almost doesn't matter what the market does - anyone that has been in AAPL long enough knows that it marches to the beat of a different drummer. Right now it seems like it's trading on the technicals. Hopefully we'll see a bit more up today but if it's a grind, then so be it...as long as we go in the right direction. Given the amount of calls hovering at $540 and above in the weeklies - that may be the PIN this week but its only Wednesday - things can change.
This morning:
In ai: According to a report published on Tuesday, Apple is looking to open a series of smaller "neighborhood shops" in India to push the iPhone in a region dominated by cheaper offerings from rival Samsung. In 9 to 5 mac: iOS 7.1 hits nearly 6% adoption in North America during first 24 hours after release In C/net: Mac users can expect a new version of the apps suite by the end of the year, according to Thorsten Hübschen, leader of Microsoft's Office group in Germany. The revelation came during an interview with Computerwoche at CeBit 2014, a computer trade show occurring this week in Hanover, Germany.
As if it couldn't possibly get any stranger, news out of Malaysia - it seems the Malaysian aircraft plane which has yet to be found was last charted 200 miles west from Penang Island which is west of Malaysia. We were joking about the show Lost yesterday but if I'm one of the families waiting for news - I'm beginning to think exactly that - hope springs eternal. Life truly is stranger than fiction.

A friend of mine was booked on that very redeye flight out of KL back to the US. She decided to delay until the morning and rescheduled. Spooky.
I honestly expected something to drop yesterday. The Carplay stuff on Monday and iOS 7.1 was probably the Apple release for this week. With the Apple TV promo over, and the new iOS out, I can see that new AppleTV hardware this month, with 802.11ac and A7 chip. They probably don't want to mess with the SxSW live event streams.
Apple also releases laptops on a staggered 16 month cycle with MB Air alternating MB Pro every 8 months (June -> February -> October). So with no major MBA update in Feb, who knows what's Cook-ing?

But but net engagement. Same as market share vs. profit share. The proof is in the not losing money once you have "enough customers". And Apple still seems pretty OK in that regard.

The Apple spaceship campus will be interesting; it seeks to isolate Apple employees from the outside world. Here in Seattle, Microsoft did the same thing with their original campus, but they have expanded into more urban settings in Seattle and Bellevue as well. Amazon is expanding exponentially, but all within the city of Seattle, where developers are creating building after building to house Amazon employees in a (nearly) downtown urban setting. Given a choice, I would far prefer the Apple campus as a place to work, but the trend among younger workers is to live and work right in the city.

It's not like One Infinite Loop isn't a bit isolated either, though. Was the Secret Intel Mac building location known to many?
The company is hellbent on secrecy whether we like it or not, so "isolation" from the outside world - heck, even each other - is understandable at least.
I'm sure it'll have a nice company store, though. Hopefully there will be a bit of a visitor area; I wouldn't mind heading on down to Cupertino to see the new mothership.

Good close, considering! Potential inverted head and shoulders formation remains in play, IMHO. I don't think a couple days of AAPL pinning would do much, as long as AAPL hangs around at least 530-535.

Do you think they would mind if I flew a drone over the campus to photograph the spaceship?

Yes, yes I know it's Business Insider but this brought a smile to my face: Samsung's Most Famous Spokesperson LeBron James Just Tweeted That His Phone Had A Total Meltdown(Read more: www.businessinsider.com/lebron-james-samsung-tweet-2014-3#ixzz2vmp95lWn)Oops! Samsung spokesperson LeBron James just tweeted out that his phone had a total meltdown and erased everything that was on it. "One of the sickest feelings I've ever had in my life!!!" said LeBron. James has been a big Samsung endorser since it released the Galaxy Note II, a giant phablet phone. He's been in numerous commercials for Samsung. This is not exactly the sort of endorsement Samsung wants! And James quickly realized his mistake. He deleted his tweet a few minutes after posting. SWEET!

The current HQ really is really unimpressive. Small and right off a fwy. I've seen bigger grocery chain warehouses. Of course, not even Steve Jobs himself could have imagined how big Apple would get when they selected that little place. The new HQ will be like comparing a Ford Pinto to a Galaxy-class starship, something worthy of a company of Apple's size stature. Logically, all Apple events will be held there, so no more peeking in the windows of the Yerba Buena Center and seeing product banners. I think just bringing journalists into the mothership for events will have a psychological effect. Like alien abduction, but without the anal probing and crop circles. I wonder if shareholder meetings will be held there...

When it rains for Samsung, it friggin' DOWNPOURS. While there may very, very well be more to the story than a "spontaneous reboot and delete" that King James had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with...no rooting, no sketchy app installs…oh, the string of bad-optics events.

I wonder if shareholder meetings will be held there... From what I've read the current campus was constructed around 1992-93, long after Steve was booted out. It's quite something that Steve "made it work" for him and the company even though I'm sure some part of him wanted to just rebuild the entire damn thing from scratch (hence the Spaceship, of course). If shareholder meetings are at the spaceship, I'll definitely have to stop by.

I wonder if shareholder meetings will be held there... Yes, they will, JD. From a post I made on 02/28/14, after the shareholders meeting: The shareholder meetings are now held in the current location's auditorium. But there's also a pretty large overflow area where shareholders, who didn't get there early enough to get a seat in the auditorium, see the meeting on a large screen. The auditorium in the new location will, of course, be much larger_but I'm sure that first shareholders meeting, in 2017, will attract a much larger crowd.

Yeah, I posted that in last night's thread. Yes, they will, JD. Well, I'll seriously think about attending - if I'm still an AAPL shareholder then.

Hugely important consideration: Any donuts or coffee at the shareholder's meeting, stuff like that?

Hugely important consideration: Any donuts or coffee at the shareholder's meeting, stuff like that? Absolutely, Mav! Pastries, coffee, juice. We always get there a couple hours before the meeting starts so we can sit close to the front. So this helps tide us over to the "real" breakfast after the meeting.
