Good morning folks AAPL news:- Macquarie analyst Ben Schachter initiates coverage on AAPL with an “Outperform” rating and a price target of $630. He expects +11% CY YoY growth in iPhone units (+7% FY YoY) due to the new iPhone 6 product cycle, while he expects the iPad to be flat to slightly up YoY only. He believes Apple’s iTunes/Software and Services are an overlooked part of its business model, and will grow to 13% of sales and 30% of EBIT by 2016E. You can find the whole story here: www.theeconomicdaily.com/2014/03/21/macquarie-initiates-coverage-on-apple-at-outperform/- Christian Bale is the top contender to play SJ in the Aaron Sorkin biopic - would be an excellent choice. He is immensely talented and bares a good resemblance. - Also, don't forget it's PIN today ($532.50) In appalling news:- The White House is testing Samsung phones for use. (WTF?!) In other news- Quadruple witching today so maybe some volatility - 29 of the 30 banks survive the Fed's stress test - Still nothing on the Malaysian missing airplane - US puts further sanctions on Russia...Russia sanctions the US to reciprocate (this is getting silly already) - Harvard beat Cincinnati in the NCAA basketball first round...Michigan next (yikes- Obama's pick to win it all)! Lastly, try to enjoy the day - we're already down in PM.

That was truly a great analysis by Farhad Manjoo in the NYT; he makes a good case that the author of Haunted Empire has utterly failed in her analysis. Apple set such a high bar in introducing revolutionary products that we all tend to become unreasonably impatient.

NCAA game - Duke vs. Mercer and Mercer is ahead...this would be the biggest upset. It's the end of the game - looks like Mercer will win. Called 2 friends that work at major banks and even though it's expiration, the games are on all the flat screens and everyone is fixated. Volume has dried up. Madness for sure! Gotta go 29 seconds left and Mercer ahead by 5....this will blow EVERYONE'S brackets!

Interesting mini-surge from AAPL at the close. Nice outperforming day overall, though still sleepy, and STILL without anything close to "decisive".
EDIT: Except for that 12M+ volume thing. Silly me.

Wow, what a close. I know there is re-balancing and triple witching, but that is some pretty significant last minute volume. A whole bunch of 530 call sellers just got kicked in the face. Interesting to see what happens next week.

Apple buying AAPL at the close? Corporates can't buy the close.

Who knows about Monday, but the intraday chart shows this was no ordinary close. $4 or so rally in 15 minutes. A big pickup in volume.
This could be as instructive short/intermediate term as Feb. 18 was (why the heck did I miss that)

That was my first thought, then the mention of rebalancing was brought up. Either way or both, I'll take it.

I would rather they not work with GOOG - if they want something to rival Pandora or Spotify - just buy both companies. They could do it with their lunch money! A lot of the growth in many companies is thru acquisitions and although they say they have numerous small ones - well, just go for it already!
