Good morning folks
- Asia and Europe up overnight and US futures looking green this morning.
- Economic Calendar: Personal Inc. @ 8:30 am (ET) and Consumer Sentiment 9:55 am (ET)
- BBRY reports today before the bell...for those who are somewhat curious.
Apple:
JPM out with two notes this morning:
Apple to Start Global sales of New iPhone in September (AAPL: Neutral): According to Nikkei, Suppliers of LCD panels for Apple's new iPhone will ramp up production soon, in line with a timetable for a worldwide launch as early as September. The new phone, expected to be called the iPhone 6, will likely be offered in 4.7- and 5.5” versions. Mass production of LCD panels will start as early as the April-June quarter at Sharp's Kameyama factory, Japan Display's Mobara plant, and elsewhere, according to sources. LG Electronics will supply panels as well.
Our View: Is it us or do both iPhone and iPad rumors seem to be thicker earlier this year than in the last couple? We are beginning to wonder whether products are being pipelined for release on an earlier cycle. Our iAnywhere thesis would suggest that new devices will need to launch by September and possibly as early as WWDC in June.
Apple Testing Oleophobic Coating on Sapphire (AAPL: Neutral): Apple has applied for a patent on “Oleophobic coating on Sapphire” where it describers the methods by which an oil-repelling coating can be applied to a sapphire slab prior to installation in a mobile device.
Our View: We believe this is related to the Apple’s upcoming iWatch, though the concept could presumably be applied to handsets as well.
