I'm using this as a place holder to keep the thread somewhat orderly.
Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend.

Another scoop by Tim Bradshaw of the Financial Times. Apple set to unveil new software platform for the 'Smart Home' at WWDC.
"...it would turn the iPhone into a remote control for lights, security systems and other household appliances...Apple has been talking to a select group of other device makers whose smart home products will be certified to work with its forthcoming new system and then be sold in its retail stores."

Another scoop by Tim Bradshaw of the Financial Times. He was the one who "announced" the Beats deal, yes?

Another scoop by Tim Bradshaw of the Financial Times. He was the one who "announced" the Beats deal, yes? Right... I notice he prefaced his tweet with "FT SCOOP" (his capitalisation).

Possibility this week of momentary dip- before the Split Train departs? Just me but a dip would be contrary to price action so far. Could happen, sure. I wonder how many mkt participants were already on vacation when AAPL's move past 610 happened. Early June could be tough for short-term traders. Tons of pundits are preparing themselves to be disappointed at WWDC. AAPL Frankfurt volume is always kinda LOL (avg 3.3k shares?!) but still nice to see as a kinda-sorta-maybe leading indicator.

Don't disagree. I'd wondered how FT broke the Beats news before, say, NYT/WSJ. Could've just been a good old-fashioned scoop, in which case congrats to Bradshaw.

Z-wave switches?
Would imagine it would be easy for iOS 8 to have code written to control those...
Would love to see Apple buy Dropcam as part of their Home Automation efforts - great product and works well with iphone.

The. Secure digital home is a dream come true. I value the Nest thermostat's ease of use now but link it all together with lights, alarms, webcams, temperature, media, .... Ahhh

Is there such a thing as a secure digital home?
Sure, rolling-code garage doors seem safe enough, but that's different from the Internet of Things or whatever they call it.
One Wi-Fi-or-whatever connected device at a time for me. Bit old school that way.

Far as the home automation stuff at WWDC rumor, well, I'll start believing it when other sources back FT up. It's only one week until WWDC and none of the usual sources are saying anything specific. We've got HealthBook and iOS 8 and maybe OS X 10.10. Maybe a Mac update, or an updated Apple TV announcement. All good stuff, but nothing "out of the blue".

A few thoughts on this one. My forecast for this year included buying Nest, merging it with the Apple TV group and letting Tony run the whole home automation effort. Fifty percent accuracy is pretty good for me. I've always felt the term Home Security was kind of an oxymoron. Like another insecure product I'm not particularly fond of they do have windows after all. There's actually a tool you can buy to stick in any conventional door handle or dead bolt lock/mortise to unlock it that I saw on Ars or Verge or who knows. The article was accompanied by a youtube video that showed it in action. I've resisted putting in cams to date thinking that it doesn't do much good to know about a break in after the fact. There's been a guy (or maybe a female) breaking in quite a few homes surrounding the graveyard here in Key West that they have footage of. Hasn't proved helpful to date. I'm excited by the prospect nonetheless. LED lighting is so cheap to run and has so many uses that I expect it to dramatically effect how we light our homes. Being able to EASILY control it and set scenes (stolen verbiage) will be very useful. Having rows of switches attached to your wall is both expensive and unsightly.

Well to state the obvious...maybe someone should ask our pal at The Loop for a yea or nay on this rumor. Bueller? Bueller?
