Snapshot News On Apple:
• The Apple iHome FT article is making its way on all the airwaves this morning. Talking heads are chatting about it.
• JPM (Rod Hall) out with a note today: Apple Said to Be Strongly Considering ARM-Based Macs: Apple is exploring new ARM-powered Macs that would feature a “large format” Magic Trackpad built into the keyboard, according to unnamed sources cited by MacBidouille. Apple is said to be far along in development of these machines, but is “reluctant” to make the switch too early and hurt its Mac lineup. The systems are said to be running a “completely equivalent” OS X operating system in ARM, with several prototype machines already said to have been developed… JPM’s View: This is entirely consistent with our iAnywhere analysis where we say we believe that this year, with the A8, will be the first year when Apple’s ARM based processors rival Intel chips in terms of computing power. However, we suspect that, rather than laptops based on ARM, Apple will simply provide larger format iPads as well as a new version of iOS and new peripherals which enable full laptop functionality.
• Looks like we are getting two new ads C/NET: iPad globe-trots, gets symphonic gets symphonic in new Apple ads: www.cnet.com/news/ipad-globe-trots-gets-symphonic-in-new-apple-ads/
• Appleinsider: Apple granted patent for embedding sapphire displays in LiquidMetal iPhone chassis: appleinsider.com/articles/14/05/27/apple-granted-patent-for-embedding-sapphire-displays-in-liquidmetal-iphone-chassis
• WSJ: Overheard: It remains unclear if Apple AAPL +1.13% is buying Beats Electronics. But investors sure are buying Apple's stock again. Interest in the iPhone maker has been revving up since its last quarterly report on April 23… One possible reason: Many large investment funds may not have held as much Apple stock as usual and are now rotating back in. According to a report Friday from Morgan Stanley, Apple's shares accounted for just 2% of the total portfolio of its top 100 holders by the end of the March quarter, down from 2.2% three months earlier. Apple will kick off its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 2, when the public will get a peek at the next version of iOS and perhaps some actual products. Then the rumors will really begin.
• The Telegraph (amongst several other outlets): iPhones frozen by hackers demanding ransom: www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/10857715/iPhones-frozen-by-hackers-demanding-ransom.html
We are just 6 days away (6/2) from WWDC...today should be interesting. I suspect you WILL enjoy it!
