Good morning. The calm after the storm. In pre market (circa 7:25) AAPL is trading at 94.88 up 0.16. Did I say up??? Also all of the major indices are green. Could this be the day? In the news this morning, New York Times, Rueters, CNBC and others are all chiming in on Apple's quarterly results. Nothing jumps out as particularly insightful. Cantor raises its AAPL target to $111. Apple posted a detailed response elaborating its diagnostic capabilities in response to the recent allegations of open back doors. For those who didn't realize it, that timely expose was of... iOS 4... jailbroken... Have a great day and let's make some money. PS circa 7:32 AAPL is at 95.20. Pre market is fun!

Gene Munster: "Our belief that Apple will launch a TV this year is waning.” If I was Tim I would pick now to announce the TV just to make Gene's head explode.

I’ve been kicking myself this morning for not taking full advantage of a short-term pricing opportunity in a company I own shares in, which has unconfirmed links with Apple. Renishaw is a manufacturing company based in south west England, which designs, manufactures and supplies advanced precision measurement and calibration equipment. The shares have been under pressure recently due to the strength of Sterling, falling from a high of £22 to below £15 yesterday. This morning they announced surprisingly good full year results and the shares are currently up nearly 20% on the day. Management said it received large ‘unpredictable’ orders in the fourth quarter from an unnamed Asian customer. The CEO said: “This customer will work with us for many months on a project, then ‘bang’… give us an order and we have to ship, in some cases, the very next day a rather large order." I think that company may be Foxconn. I remember that Renishaw’s shares had exactly the same sharp rise two years ago just before the launch of the iPhone 5. Then ‘The Times’ newspaper in London mentioned that Renishaw’s machines could be seen in this iPhone 5 video, where Jony Ive is talking about the ‘remarkable precision’ with which the iPhone is manufactured (4:40 minutes point). www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5X5cV-4LRoSo when the next major design change occurs for the iPhone 7 in 2016, I will try and exploit any short term weakness in Renishaw shares…

Rob, that kind of dot-connecting is precisely why we need to maintain the Apple Finance Board. Braeburn Group pulled in many of the tea-leaf readers, but I enjoy the daily banter here. See the pattern, exploit the pattern, rinse, repeat. Best of luck with your approach, it seems solid.

As is typical with Horace, he scored near the bottom (26) on individual categories to arrive at his EPS (in other words, pure luck). As far as Sponge goes, I have a pretty good idea what he's doing and it's not impressive. Horace has a reputation to protect and his is not well served by participating.

I held a straddle through earnings. This morning, I've sold off the put of that straddle and purchased an extra call for Jan '15.

There was nothing in the report to make anyone not want to own the stock. Contrast this with MSFT.
I thought Wall Street would open Apple red for seven minutes just to fleece the fearful...but they couldn't do even that!
The runway is now clear right up to the invitation for iPhone 6......get in early, get in often.

Gene Munster: "Our belief that Apple will launch a TV this year is waning.” Guitarplayer: "My belief that Gene Munster is right about anything is waning" Cheers to the longs ! IMHO: The gals and fellas at APPLE are very smart..... LCD & LED prices continue to fall. Last year, a person could buy a 20 inch 1080 HDTV for $1.00 per inch or $200.00 Last year, a person could buy a 32 inch 1080 HDTV for $1.00 per inch or $320.00 I THINK the price will be 50 cents per inch on Black Friday on some models.... I think an actual APPLE Television will never appear.

I have always been in the camp that said that getting into the "TV PANEL" business makes no sense ... that said there are other ways to get into that market. I do think there is going to be a shift in how people get their entertainment in fact it is already happening and I think Apple would do well in that arena as a conduit for content providers. Apple TV is a good device but could use some development to make it a GREAT device. And finally , my dig is at Mr. Munster who I've given a pass to because he has always been in Apple's camp but has made some very very BAD calls with regards to upcoming products .... his dismissal of the IBM partnership was the final straw ... Gene gets no more free passes in my book.

Thinking about the "Apple TV"...
Apple has recently shown that it is willing and open to working with partners to introduce new opportunities. Take for example CarPlay. Apple didn't come out with an iCar, they worked with existing car manufactures to include an Apple designed component into their car.
Extrapolating that to the Television market, Apple could work with existing TV manufactures to incorporate an AppleTV module into their TV. Giving similar functionality to the External box we currently have, but inside the TV. Apple wouldn't need to build TVs, they'd just provide the requirements (components?) of the module to go inside the TV.
To me, this makes much more sense. TVs like cars don't get upgraded as often as computers/phones/iPads. Let the company already making the devices continue to make devices, but allow them to differentiate with a value ad from Apple.

Interesting idea... perhaps with a high end TV manufacturer, such as the German company Lowe. There were rumours flying about a couple of years ago that Apple were buying them, which they denied after their share price soared.

Put in a limit order to sell half the Aug $95 calls I bought two days ago for a nice 50+% gain. Stock needs to approach $97.85 to get there. Market turning lower now but AAPL still holding strong.

If that has always been the case, then I missed out on last year's Mavericks (I recall attempting this but was unsuccessful). I'll wait for the beta release of Yosemite tomorrow, as it may include a few tweaks to what's available to developers. Thanks.
