Patently Apple taking a rep hit in my book. Clickbait headline about Xiaomi's 5.5" screened phone (er...Galaxy Note 3 from last year...lots of other phablets in that HugePhone class?), plus watermarks (I mean, really?), including on the Mi 4 which is actually the Mi 3.
(How do you know it's a Mi 4? It's the most iPhone-looking MiPhone yet.)

The question is less about HOW to quit Comcast but who to use as a replacement. IMO, DirecTV is WORSE, due to the fact there's a 2 year contract. My rates have doubled in 18 months. They used classic bait and switch on me. They've changed for the worse. I'm using Apple TV 50% of the time now. I cannot wait to cut the cord completely with DirecTV.

If I could trust the stock market to be semi-rational, I would short AMZN today. But it isn't, so I won't.
Amazon reports after the bell today. TOMORROW (Thursday)

AAPL/Apple's more my wheelhouse, so to speak. And things are looking good in this so-called walled garden.

If you have an iOS developer account then you could download Yosemite since the first day of WWDC. First beta was ropey but everything since beta 2 has been fine for me. If that has always been the case, then I missed out on last year's Mavericks (I recall attempting this but was unsuccessful). I'll wait for the beta release of Yosemite tomorrow, as it may include a few tweaks to what's available to developers. Thanks. It was a just this year thing. I think because the symbiotic nature of the two os's Apple decided to let the iOS developers have at it from the start.

From CRUS shareholder letter: Our relationship with our largest customer remains outstanding with ongoing design activity on various products. While we understand there is intense interest in this customer, in accordance with our policy, we do not discuss specifics about our business relationship. Accurately predicting the timing of revenue between quarters can be challenging as orders may fluctuate, especially in the September and December quarters when steep product ramps for the holiday season occur. Taking this into consideration, revenue in the September quarter is forecast to range from $175 to $195 million, with the midpoint up 21 percent quarter over quarter and down three percent year over year. Sequentially, the forecasted increase in revenue is primarily attributable to strength in portable audio driven by expected new product ramps in the second half of CY14. investor.cirrus.com/files/doc_financials/2015/Q1-FY15-Shareholder-Letter.pdf

I doubt even I could read 15,000 comics without exploding. Even Star Trek comics....if only there were 15,000 of those...yeah! I'm most pleased with today. I had promised to ease back some positions if we hit 97.50 and book some nice short term gains. I actually couldn't get out until we had run to 97.60 but no complaints here....Everythign is unfolding very well for this stock. The volume today had to be the big institutions taking positions post-earnings and pre-announcements. This bodes well for August (macro markets permitting).

Qualcomm's third-quarter revenue beats StreetBY Reuters — 4:10 PM ET 07/23/2014 SAN FRANCISCO, July 23 (Reuters) - Leading mobile chipmaker Qualcomm Inc (QCOM posted higher fiscal third-quarter revenue that beat analysts' expectations as demand in the smartphone market shifts to China and other price-sensitive developing countries.
The chipmaker on Wednesday reported third-quarter revenue of $6.81 billion, up 9 percent from the year-ago period. Analysts on average had expected third-quarter revenue of $6.52 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
QCOM had third-quarter net income of $2.24 billion, up 42 percent. GAAP diluted earnings per share were $1.31. Its non-GAAP earnings per share were $1.44, well above the midpoint of its previous forecast of between $1.15 and $1.25. (Reporting by Noel Randewich; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)

From the 10-Q:
"In addition to the commitments mentioned above, the Company had additional off-balance sheet obligations of $5.6 billion as of June 28, 2014, which were comprised mainly of commitments to acquire capital assets, including product tooling and manufacturing process equipment, and commitments related to advertising, research and development, Internet and telecommunications services and other obligations."
In comparison, before the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple spent $4.5 billion in the June quarter on these items.

A $1.1 billion increase in expenditure from June 2012, before the ramp up to the iPhone 5 launch, would be consistent with additional product lines/ categories.

See page 37: On May 28, 2014, the Company announced it entered into definitive agreements to acquire Beats Music, LLC, which offers a subscription streaming music service, and Beats Electronics, LLC, which makes Beats headphones, speakers and audio software (collectively, “Beats”). The Company intends to acquire Beats for a total purchase price of approximately $2.6 billion, consisting primarily of cash. The Company also intends to issue approximately $400 million of its common stock, which will vest over time based on continued employment of certain executives of Beats. The transactions, which are subject to regulatory approvals, are expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Apple management have been very quiet about retail recently...1% increase in retail revenue year on year.
Let's see what magic AA can weave.

Shameless copying by Xiaomi. I NEVER had any interest wearing a Bolex because I couldn't afford a Rolex. Yet, seemingly, many in China have no such qualms about the theft that underlies Xiaomi's business model. Pretty disappointing all around. www.cultofandroid.com/66569/xiaomi-dont-copy-apple/

This is very interesting. It suggests iWatch is a platform (like Android), rather than hardware Apple will be selling directly. Part of the ecosystem lock-in like iTunes, rather than a real revenue source?

Part of the ecosystem lock-in like iTunes, rather than a real revenue source? Interesting and smart. I initially thought Apple would license the watch face designs as a kind of "skin" while the smart functions of the iDevice were a touch away. Looks like a deeper partnership, leveraging the greater distribution of the watch stores.

You COULD work with the watchmakers...but why not make your own $200-300 disruptive wearable?
Being able to license iconic watch face designs *cough Swiss Federal Railways cough* would be an interesting way to have your watch-face cake and something something, but then we have that whole "smartwatches kill current-generation weaksauce batteries and the display is a huge reason for that" problem.

Put in a limit order to sell half the Aug $95 calls I bought two days ago for a nice 50+% gain. Stock needs to approach $97.85 to get there. Sold all calls (Sep $95) for 30% gain. Hold calls (Sep $100).

Thee anticlimactic verdict on Amazon's "MisFire" phone: It's a POS.

Check out the comments section below the MisFire's review by the Verge, which wears a black eye for even making the effort. My favorite: "Let’s be honest here…who the fuck wants a phone that says "Amazon" on the back of it. But holy shit, the cameras on the phone make the phone unbearable to look at." www.theverge.com/2014/7/22/5923697/amazon-fire-phone-review

It's very true to its brand though. A lot of people will look at the Fire Phone... ...and they're done.
