Just a great article. I too just do not know what to say. His points about the methods of using it seem valid. I think he must be very smart, as the depth of this review is excellent!

Thank you for the reply. Since I don't keep up with tech specs your information helped me understand how this was possible. Still can't be much profit and the experience may not be very satisfying after spending the monthly fees for a data plan.

Can Google actually sell a product this low and make money back on ads, especially in the very low end market? Another question is ... can Google sell this product at such a low price and keep their other Android partners? I mean, how are Samsung, LG, HTC, etc supposed to make money if Google can undercut them at any time?

Like an iPhone, it's uses are different for everyone. Some people use tons of apps and look at the screen continuously. On the other end you have people that use it primarily as a phone, with few apps in actual use. The beauty of it is that it has the ability to be whatever YOU want it to be because of the OS and interface. Those uses will change over time as it elvoves and new apps are developed. This is where it shines over the competition IMO. Like the Blackberry phones with a fixed keyboard, unable to change where the iPhone could change to meet any needs.

The funny thing is, at this point, Apple Watch really IS kind of an optional thing. There's no clear path to smartphone domination or something just because Android Wear gets popular (which I think is presumptuous at this point). Same goes for iOS.
On the other hand, Apple stands to gain a TON from Apple Watch being successful aside from the intangibles - it's not that far out there to think Apple Watch could out-revenue and out-profit iPad in Year 1. Partly because of style, partly because Apple Watch is almost too capable in its first iteration, to the point of looking "unfocused" given how many mini-apps it has.
Wearables are well over a billion units when you start from watches. Aspirational status and cost curve improvements have a way of really expanding the addressable market over time. The short-sightedness of the tech press is downright laughable in places. Apple Watch needn't add to consumer spending, it could easily replace less functional items in many contexts. Apple Watch has no guarantee of success, and yet, it's been created by a far more competent and experienced organization than the one that created the iPhone. You can't discount that.

Interesting that, from this Charlie Rose part II snippet, it looks like that while Tim Cook differentiates Apple from other companies WRT data collection, he just can't bring himself to say "Google" or "Android." He does say, "you are the product" when referring to the data collectors. I really wish he'd hit on this even harder!

The ever- increasing ASP metric and likely margin improvement resulting from the move to the 6 and (especially) the 6+, and the Apple watch! combined with huge demand...then throw in share buybacks.....the story keeps getting more impressive.
And while the December quarter will no doubt be great, imagine the YOY in the March 2015 quarter if the watch rolls out in February, in time for Lunar New Year..
