It's not too late to put the loose cash to work JD I need to get the 31 days rolling to wash away the wash sales, so I can trade the Jan earnings. Stupid IRS.

How is it possible to have capital losses in the last few weeks? (unless somehow you bought at 118 and sold at 108) There are these things called "options." They unfortunately sometimes expire out of the money. That brings up a few interesting questions - if you had some December's expire worthless on 20-Dec: 1. If earnings are on 20-Jan, how can you "play earnings"? [doesn't really matter because earnings are mr likely to be on 22-Jan or sometime during the week of 26-Jan] 2. If you have a capital loss on say a Dec 120 call that expired worthless, would purchasing a Jan 110 call cause a wash sale? Would purchasing shares outright cause a wash sale? If all trades in AAPL or Apple derivatives become wash sales, that would make trading spreads quite tricky (and I would have to check back if I ever screwed up over the years, as, of course, I've also had some options expire worthless on me).
