It doesn't matter what time the thread is started, as long as I come back to $230... 😜

Minor note, last link in post above (AAC stock plunge) is wrong; tied to Apple News subscription fee story. The link works for me as is. I had past issues with links not working with/because of Apple News. When Apple News is deleted, everything works again.

My HomePod SagaThanks for the feedback on HomePods. I've had multiple chat's in the last year at both the Apple Store and online. I asked specifically if it was possible to stream from my iTunes library on my Mac or phone -- and was told it could not be done. I considered this a huge product shortcoming. This is the current HomePod page at the Apple Store. Looking again today on the Overview page, I do see "Stream anything in our catalog along with music from your iTunes library." However, on the Tech Specs page under Audio Sources it lists iTunes Music Purchases instead of your generic iTunes library. I will acknowledge that the page does mention you can stream music from more sources with AirPlay, but the specificity of 'iTunes Music Purchases' raised my skepticism, prompting my visit and chat. Could be that I was speaking to the wrong experts. I do not expect random Apple Store employees to know the answers to every question. Indeed the expert at the store was somewhat evasive, again raising concern. However, I presume that Apple would route online chats to a guru on the chat subject. Both said it was not possible. How long has HomePod had the capability to play from iTunes -- and would someone please confirm that it does include songs not purchased through iTunes? Does it work from Macs and iPhones? I gather it uses Airplay but not bluetooth? Hopefully, I'll be ordering a couple upon my return. Thanks. P.S. Buying something shouldn't be this hard.

PED has Ben Thompson: Why Apple’s heart isn’t in HomePod. I disagree with Ben. I consider the HomePod to be wonderfully successful. The device is amazing. I would own multiples -- except. Except Apple has chosen to limit HomePod use to Apple Music with Siri. HomePod does not work with bluetooth, as a remote speaker for AppleTV or as a node on my wireless network where it could serve selections from my iTunes library. You see, I am one of those finicky people who wants my devices to integrate with each other. I expect the devices to just work. No fuss. No muss. Further, as an owner of an extensive music collection, I have no desire to use Apple Music or any other service. Perhaps this is an effort to maintain a moat around Apple Products. I view it as a horrible missed opportunity. Apple's loss.

Not a fan of tariffs or trade wars, however with respect to China, it needed to be done.
Free trade is not unilateral.

I do not agree that the discussion of the Saudi app necessarily belongs in the dungeon. If the desire is to denigrate others or name call, then yes.
However if the desire is to discuss the app as an example of the hazards of curation, then it seems like a reasonable topic to discuss here. Particularly since so many are banking on Services as Apple's future.
For instance, there has been much discussion of Apple News. Indeed, there is a headline on yahoo this morning "would you subscribe". I will not. I prefer to peruse original sources and form my own opinion rather than have others curate 'what I need to know'. You might respond by pointing out that I 'curate' what I post here. That is true. However, others are welcome and encouraged to post whatever they like -- to ensure that we get as broad a perspective on Apple as possible. We ask only that you keep it legal (e.g. no inciting violence), on topic, and not attack others.
As to the Saudi app, since it is in Farsi, I can only comment based on what I have read... that it is a government app that provides access to numerous government services (DMV) beyond controlling and tracking women. That said, like many, I find that ability abhorrent. What was Apple thinking? To those who say Apple is merely complying with local law, bear in mind that there are slaves and active slave markets in the world. What would be our response to a government app controlling and tracking slaves? How different is that really?
Apple is between a rock and a hard place here, particularly since Tim stated they have a moral obligation to act consistently with their values.

I'm not suggesting Apple make a cheap phone. I'm suggesting Apple would be well advised to hold the line on phone prices.
There is a difference.
