I've been starting the Daily Thread since Phoebear had a family emergency many years ago. It's time for me to pass on the baton.
Having been here since the beginning, I've seen many people come and go. Whether or not I agreed with them, I always valued their perspectives. The Board has provided many insights that made or saved significant money over the years. It has also been a particularly fertile ground to make many dear friends. Thank you all.
I encourage you to seek the wisdom in the perspectives you disagree with. They are often the path to filling our own blind spots.
I will be around from time to time, looking over your shoulders if not posting.

I've used a combination of technicals for buying and selling, particularly options.
For instance I like to go long when RSI < 30 and short when it is >70.
I also use gaps to determine buying opportunities. In my experience they fill. My biggest failure is getting impatient and buying before the Gap fills. Like this time.
Would still like AAPL take out $173. Was hopeful it would happen today. Unfortunately not.
My fear is the other gap in the mid 150's which Sponge has pointed out. Repeatedly. Ignore it at your peril.

I want everyone to be aware of this PM exchange between Lstream and myself... I strongly disagree with what you posted. Seems like it is perfectly OK for the Trump lovers to have a field day and now to use their moderation power to advance their own beliefs. But I will respect you and not respond. Permanently. Bye. You are welcome to strongly disagree, indeed encouraged. It is no more OK for Trump lovers to post political diatribes than for Trump haters or anyone else. It is the political diatribes that are the issue, not the perspective. Ironically, you might be surprised by the moderator's perspectives. The Board is not moderated 24/7. All of us, including the 'moderators', have other responsibilities and interests. That is why we ask everyone to self moderate. Please note that people besides the moderators have called out the political diatribes. That is healthy. It means people care about the Board. The fact that moderators are not here 24/7 also means that some things initially get by before they are responded to. That doesn't make them any less of an issue. People are still called out, generally via PM, like the original message to you. Some edit their posts, some do not. Those who are chronic offenders are dealt with more harshly. Fortunately we have not had to suspend anyone to date though some have shied away for a while. That is a shame. Though the political diatribes are not appreciated, many are very insightful when it comes to Apple. Finally, moderators make mistakes too. I've posted things I've regretted then had to edit them. It's easy to get sucked in. We also make mistakes in moderation. When it occurs we admit it. Fortunately with four of us there is always someone to pull back on the excesses and the members of the Board also speak up. Such feedback is tremendously helpful. I hope you'll stick around, even if it is just lurking. I value your perspective. Better yet, I invite you to become a moderator. The pay sucks and there is little appreciation, but you'll help to make the Board better -- which is, I think, our universal goal. I am not happy to see anyone leave the Board. Those of you who've been around for a while can probably think of a number of names who no longer post. Most never said why they left. Some have said they left because of the political diatribes. Personally, I prefer to have robust Apple discussion without political diatribes... but its our board, not my board. I'll defer to the group. My offer to Lstream extends to everyone on the Board... I invite you to become a moderator. PM me. Lastly for the record, I would like to make it clear to everyone on the board, when Lovey turned the keys over, I was the one she empowered to designate new moderators. I do not know what I did differently with Artman, but somehow I gave him the title of 'global moderator'. Though I made numerous attempts, I have not been able to change it. It is nothing that he did. Have a great weekend everyone. I hope to see you all here Tuesday morning.

We had a situation yesterday that got out of hand.
A post was flagged for content. The poster was asked to edit or remove it. Instead of doing so, the poster chose to be abusive toward the moderator who made the request. Though the post in question was not one of the more egregious ones we've had, it crossed the line. Both the post and subsequent response were inappropriate.
All of us value of different opinions. We are here to gain the insights of those different perspectives. None of us deserve abuse for those differences.
This is an Apple discussion board. Posts related to Apple, even obliquely, are welcome. And yes, that includes Apple in the context of the political environment. It is safe to say that there is disagreement even amongst the moderators but we work through those differences without name calling.
There was a period not too long ago when participation on the board fell off sharply. The feedback received was that the political diatribes, from both sides, discouraged visits. For this reason we ask, again, that you avoid them. Please respect other members.
Lovey used to suspend members who repeatedly made inappropriate posts. Though we are loath to go down that path, consider this fair warning that we will suspend members who persist with inappropriate posts, irrespective of whether or not we agree with the views expressed.
There are four of us. We moderate because we value the Board and the contributions of everyone here. Our strong preference is self moderation. We are not always here. Anyone interested in becoming a moderator is welcome. PM me.
Please be respectful.

Though attacking Apple might seem a logical move for the Chinese, such a move potentially has significant repercussions, including the unanticipated given how complex the Apple supply chain is.

Coma you need access because you were one of the participants...
Speaking of which, I'm not aware of any restrictions on accessing threads. If anyone cannot access them please speak up.

The 170 puts make sense. That is within the realm of possibility.
As for you're 158 target, I see where you're coming from. Yes there is a gap. Boy do I hope you're wrong...

This Board is self moderated. *** Yesterday a post was deleted. ummmm... that's an oxymoron... just sayin' (don't delete pls ) Understood. Not to excuse anything, but the post in question is the only one to have been deleted in several years. The moderators all agree that it should have been handled differently. Our preference has been and remains to ask people to edit or remove their own posts -- and take non-Apple discussion to the Dungeon. The moderators are continuing discussions regarding when deletion is or is not appropriate. For the record, spam, porn, or other egregious content will be deleted immediately. For the most part, they are a non-issue.

Lstream is correct that no other posts have been deleted by the moderators.
He is also correct that there are many posts pro and con that get close if not over the edge. The challenge of consistency is one of the reasons why we do not moderate the Board.
We rely on you to stay on topic. When a post that goes too far, we will ask you to move the discussion to the dungeon.
Unless related to Apple (for instance the MarketWatch article above), please keep all political conversation in the dungeon.
Thanks.

RE: The App Store Anti-Trust Case "Tying", linking the sale of one good or service to another, used to be considered a 'per se' violation of the anti-trust laws. If one could demonstrate that a per se violation of the ant-trust laws occurred, no further evidence was needed into the practice's actual effect on the market or the intentions of those individuals who engaged in the practice. The seminal case was Xerox. Once upon a time Xerox required the use of their paper with their machines. Ironically, the Xerox paper was of a higher and consistent quality so as not to cause problems. None the less, the FTC successfully prosecuted resulting in Xerox eliminating paper sales. There are some rather clear parallels to Apple and the App Store. Fortunately, the justice department no longer considers tying a per se violation. None the less there is precedent.

Posts and Moderation
This Board is self moderated.
What does that mean? It means we respect one another. Discussion of everything Apple (AAPL) is welcomed and encouraged. If we disagree, we disagree with the contents not the individual.
Apple is part of a larger world. It is impacted by world events, politics, and personalities. Again discussion of Apple in the context of the larger world is welcomed and encouraged. Again, disagreement should focus on the contents not the individual posting.
What about posts that focus on world events, politics, and personalities. As a general rule, if Apple (AAPL) is not mentioned in your post it is probably a good indicator that this is not the place for it. Lovey, our Boards founder had the foresight to create the Dungeon, where everyone is free to discuss anything. Take the political discussions there, but, again, please be respectful of the posters with whom you disagree.
Why is respect so important? To start with, it is likely that half the people reading here disagree with you. That's what makes markets work. We come here for diverse opinions, looking for our blind spots. We are unlikely to find them if everyone on the board has the same perspective.
Valuable contributors have left the board in the past due to personal attacks. It would be unwise to lose any more perspectives.
As a rule the moderators do not moderate -- unless a post is particularly egregious (e.g. porn). Since all posters are registered users this has not been an issue.
***
Yesterday a post was deleted. Unfortunately a deleted post is unavailable for further review or discussion so I cannot comment on the specific post.
Our preference is that the person who made the post edit or delete it.
As a general rule, the moderators will discuss and review offending posts before they are deleted. Of course, there are exceptions. In the event of something egregious it would be deleted immediately.
Hope that helps to explain the philosophy of the Board.
