Which one was the disappointment? The one where we missed, and subsequently rallied 135 points? Or the one where we kicked ass, and subsequently tanked 100 points? I think he's referring to Oct '11 and July '12, Ms. IPad.

Afterhours trading is pessimistic. However, in the larger scheme, the iPhone Army waits for no analyst.

We're down 9 points from 700. Gotta keep perspective. I haven't been trading the upper range as well as I'd like, but that's life. Just make sure you can take the reins of your portfolio if the price action doesn't go your way. Even if AAPL is still headed lower short-term, we're far from any point of panic. Evaluate and act accordingly. Stay nimble, even if you aren't planning to make any moves yet. I'm short-term bearish(ish) - very light on options, no AAPL BPS hedges at the moment - but that's just me. iPad is running in the other direction, which is never a good sign as far as my trading goes.

OK, just read where Samsung is arguing that the jury talked about information not presented at trial. (Lets not forget that it was Samsung who tried to tait the jury). Samsung is also arguing that the jury foreman swayed the jury because of his patent experience. These people are scum. Samsung was the one who demanded a Jury trial - they cant throw their toys out of the cot because they lost (although thats what there lawyers are paid to do I guess).

I bought JAN'15 850/900. I like this trade. 4x, low margin hit, and conservative target price. But how did you wrestle with the bid/ask spread? I usually avoid legging in, even when this far out.

Samsung can make all the creative arguments it wants.
Judge Koh locked the trial down very well. We'll see if Samsung can win on any of those dice rolls.

I don't think I could_stand_ that trade. It's a mega-LEAP where, with enough scale and bid/ask whackiness, could either be interminably slow or confusing. Remember how I mentioned that my Jan 14 BCS something was showing some extreme paper loss that looked like it was more than my actual capital investment? (They would've been up maybe 35-50% had I kept them to today.) LEAP BCSes can be a real exercise in patience. See: Me bailing out of my Jan 14 BCS today. It's not for everyone and certainly not always for impatient types like myself.

I think I will shut my computer down and go watch some football - I am reading blogs and people (shorts, no doubt) are coming up with such FUD....saying there are 10 deaths at Foxconn due to the riots....and that it was a mistake about where the iPhone 5 was being produced and it is at the rioting factory/dorm. Meanwhile they are either not posting links or they are posting outdated links (those that preceded today's clarification about the factory and what was being produced.) I have to tell you my head is spinning - wtf. The bears are out tonight and growling to scare everyone out! Unreal. Well I stand corrected: www.cultofmac.com/192461/foxconn-riot-much-worse-than-first-thought-10-reported-dead/

Phoebear -
You're a seasoned trader. Time to disconnect and watch some MNF.
I may have been following Apple news, views and attitudes longer than anyone here. I started Apple forum discussion life on the Apple product side of things. The FUD can arrive fast, vicious and relentless. Accuracy is an afterthought, if that.
Just gotta keep perspective and roll with it. The stronger the anti-Apple cacophony is, the better Apple usually is doing.

Another month, another Foxconn saga.
My preference is to wait for more hard-news type sources to chime in. Though you know what's coming as far as impending editorial, so prepare for it.
Doubtless Apple is looking into expanding manufacturing capabilities worldwide, if it wasn't already.

Though you know what's coming as far as impending editorial, so prepare for it. yep - and who knows who the hell is putting some of the reports together..maybe it's our good friend Mike Daisey who fabricated half the stuff ... the NYT already put an article together about working conditions for tomorrow (I guess) - but haven't read anything from a reputable source about deaths. And you are right, this too shall pass but I have to tell you...I became more of an investor than a trader...and as a kid I loved roller coasters....but I'm not loving roller coasters these days.

If any of you feel down now just imagine how you'll feel when the earnings report in January is announced. : P Buy (dips) and hold Agreed. We are at the very beginning of a massive upgrade cycle to the iPhone 5, plus an iPad mini is likely coming within 45 days. I am not selling my Apr and Feb 600s and, in the event aapl drops further, I will most likely add Feb 700s. Stay on target . . . Stay on target . . . Sometimes for kicks, I find it comforting to move the decimal point on dips (i.e. imagining a 10 for 1 split). Holy crap, aapl just dropped from $70.4 to $68.7 . . . just doesn't seem so alarming. Best of luck everyone.

As I am always think there is a conspiracy somewhere, the article mentions gangs. Could this be the Apple boys against the Samsung wanna be's. make no mistake, I don't think there is a level that Samsung would not stoop to.

Well, today was a volatile day. I buy naked calls and so I have come to an understanding with market volatility. It has it's way with me and my stomach acids burn From a portfolio high on Friday of $945,000, the value dropped $102,000 at one point. Almost all my holdings are Apr 13 or Jan 14, so the volatility, while rude at times, has worked in my favor longer term. The portfolio started the year just over $500,000 so today's final paper loss of $67,000 is a bite in the xxx, but the up days are a thrill too. By my calculation, if the stock price gets to around 715, I should go over 1 million. I have never been fond of roller coasters, but I can hold the positions because I perceive unrealized (by the market) value in AAPL. Have no fear, Apple will rally from this. A clip from a favorite movie that reflects my investment style - www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6WD7B_I_9c&feature=youtube_gdata_playerYeeha! Has anyone who is not buying a new iPhone decided to load the new iOS? I'll wait a few days myself before switching, standard operating procedure—let the others shake out the bugs. As for the dip, I don't have an options account, and even a sad old odd-lotter such as I can't bring myself to buy three shares (all my risk cash would buy at this point). (edit: fat-fingered, sorry) OLR, I loaded it onto my 4S and iPad2 as soon as it announced itself as available. Upgrade was perfectly smooth, as was the apps upgrade. I updated my 4S within 24 hours of release. No problems. Safari is much faster. The turn by turn directions in iMaps work well for me, as long as I give a street address, rather than ask Siri to find a commercial establishment and then direct me. I prefer the turn by turn directions in iOS 6 to the navigation system in my Mercedes. I should add that if there's a toll road within 50 miles, the nav system on my Mercedes automatically routes me through it. I suppose it thinks that if I bought a Mercedes I must LIKE spending money.

I updated my 4S and my iPad. Also updated my Mountain Lion on my macbook. No issues, everything works great and I like the new maps. Squeaky wheels get the grease, meanwhile the Apple ecosystem drives millions of quiet, smooth running wheels that make their owners happy.

237 members and counting, while Robert at AFB1 is trying with all his might to resuscitate the dead, to no obvious avail. Is it the general consensus that AFB1 is dead, I am just curious? Seems the only one posting there is DT. Con-grads to Lovey for the swift and timely exit, and as a reader from post one, a circumspect maneuver to the new home of the AFB. I think it will work out for the best, to all involved. I do not think aaplfinaceboard2.proboards.com is the appropriate URL, and it should be a stand alone URL with proper credentials. The combined knowledge alone dictates this, as does the street credibility. While it may only be 250 plus members, it is the MOST important 250 members on the net regarding all things AAPL investing. A permanent URL dictates this for the future of the board. The software running a good forum is readily available via open source, with minimal changes for the boards purpose, and many here, myself included, have the prowess to accomplish this. Or it can be outsourced for nominal dollars, and monthly expense. Several people have expressed an interest in cementing a good URL for the naming convention, and I will add two more to the pool. I own more URL's than Carter has pills, and can offer either at no cost to anybody, and shed all cost's to date. The two in mind are aaplguide.com, and aaplguru.com. Both might reflect the tangent of this board. I am not looking for anything other than a continuum. aaplfinanceboard2.proboards.com, is not it! The temporary URL has benefitted most that were involved in the old AFB1, and if the board as a whole thinks the return to said grounds is not feasible for reasons in the past, someone should make that decision soon. (Love) If the decision is made to not return, I wish someone would contact Robert and let him know that his efforts over at AFB1 are of no consequence, and invite him to be an esteemed member here, or wherever the board settles permanently. Robert added way too much to ignore. 2 cents from a long time AFB1 lurker/poster

Edit: Dr. Strangestock or How I learned to stop worrying and Love the volatility! Congrats on the half million payday this year. I too do long-term LEAP unhedged calls, and over the last 2 years I've gradually gotten used to my portfolio going up or down $25,000+ with 1-2% price movements in AAPL. It used to churn my stomach too, but after a while I got used to it. But while human nature tends to dislike volatility and sometimes we tend to compare the average middle class annual income to our portfolio volatility ("oh my gosh, I paper-lost a brand new BMW 328i today", or "oh wow, I paper-gained an M3 today"), it's important to remind ourselves that portfolio volatility is the nature of having options in our portfolio in any significant proportion. It's also why all of us go into options - for the leveraged gains (and losses) that comes with it. Otherwise, we'd all be investing in common shares.

I have seen the same thing over at AFB1, and have commented that we don't need any more fragmentation. Someone else made a similar comment, and that post got deleted. I have no idea what the goal is over there, but the last thing we need is more fragmentation beyond AFB and Braeburn, which is already too much.

We should never return to AFB1. There was over moderation, and arbitrary closing of threads when one person decided that the rest of us had said enough. No thanks to that.

Lstream, with the vitriol surrounding AFB1, I agree. A complete and utter separation is in the boards best interest, it just should not be aaplfinanceboard2.proboards.com. I will not delineate the obvious reasons, as they are apparent. When you have 250 of the greatest AAPL investor minds, they deserve a proper URL, as do the folks that might rely on our/your collective wisdom. If there is no going back, lets move forward. Smartly, and with a will.
