What is the general consensus on this site wrt to the TV? Are we guessing that we are getting ANYTHING associated with it in September or no? It's getting lame at this point - I know there are a ton of you that disagree but I think they should have diversified a bit and bought something a while back...maybe a NFLX. Better use of cash then just sitting there and having folks calling them a one trick pony. I was also a fan of Waze and still am...but Google gobbled that one up while AAPL still struggled on the maps issues. So who within the organization is the negotiator for AAPL TV and why can't he get the job done?....because clearly he can't and how many chances does that person get before someone else gets a shot at it. Has anyone shown them the definition of insanity? We've been having this conversation for how many quarters/years now?

Maybe Netfx, but that shipped has sailed, as their stock is ridiculously high. As far as Apple TV who knows, we don't know Apple's end game plan,

Apple Reports Small Gains in Workforce Diversity. Stories at WSJ [$] and AP. I would like to note that the AP headline was "Apple more than doubles hiring of women and minorities." Two very different summaries of the same facts. NB: This is in no way meant as a criticism of Buzz Lightyear and the wonderful service he provides to all of us with his morning kickoff reports.

Talking of things that have been going on way too long... Howard Mintz - who covered the oringinal Samsung /Apple court case reported on the Federal Appeal's refusal to re-examine Samsung's appeal of the patent violations. I think we're now down to the Supreme Court to rule - and indeed Samsung will surely go for that too. But time is running out and I think 20th of November is the deadline for that. www.siliconvalley.com/ci_28635896/apple-v-samsung-court-rejects-samsungs-latest-appeal

No offense taken. I should have caught that and used a more neutral heading rather than the WSJ title. Thanks for pointing it out. Spin, FUD comes in many different flavors.

Apple TV HAS taken far too long. Let's wait until after Sept. 9th -- the media gets so much stuff wrong it's Samsung-shameful.

Good points; I think Apple has made many strategic mistakes regarding TV content and should have bought Netflix on the recommendation of some of us (I say with a chuckle, but also with all seriousness) several years ago. Their overriding idealistic visions for TV may not be attainable, at least not before everyone else has anticipated where the puck will be.

So references to BI (the underlying source of this report) are verboten unless they support your hypothesis, at which time they're fine?

Way to call out Mercel on his blatant hypocrisy, Jeff! /s I think it's okay to post links based on their individual merit and FUD factors - not to necessarily write-off every tech "reporter" at BI. Even the blind can occasionally see... Actually, the Times and WSJ post about the same amount of crap these days as this known flinger of poo... We can't stop reading every news source - or can we?

40 million a year by 2020? Try 40+ by next year. I spent 10 minutes with an older couple showing them my Apple Watch. They were both in their 80s. They were blown away by simple feature like answering a phone call. Once we add medical sensors, we will rule the wrist.

Shatner and I are going to rule the Lounge with our duet on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It may be my imagination (or desire to be proven right in my hopes...) but Apple has seemed to be performing well lately. This is Apple the company not AAPL the stock. Note the updates to iOS8 and OSX cleanin up some of the Apple music and Photos gliches. Everything loaded smoothly for me lasat night and things seem a big "cleaner" this morning. Then we have the steady diet of iOS9 and El Capitan betas rolling along. The reviews of some of the productivity enhancements in each are quite good. New Hardware and new software and a new TV box only 4 weeks away. Meanwhile Samsung hit the highest level of Yawn yet with their new hardware reveal. Plus the disgust factor for the blatant copying is at a new all time level. Mercel is excited about his Galaxy Gear and Android Wear...but nobody else is.

I'm the guy who used 29 posts to state that what was wrong with aapl was lack of a big screen phone (for which I got reamed) and to state that sales of Watch 1.0 were going to be disappointing (same). I'm the guy who used his 30th post to call out as one of the lamest things on the internet, post-count shaming. So references to BI (the underlying source of this report) are verboten unless they support your hypothesis, at which time they're fine? Should the Watch sales (or lack thereof) be holding AAPL to a 13 P/E with everything else going on? That is what puzzles me.

Assuming this isn't /s (don't think it is) thanks for the serious question. No, I don't think aapl should be at a 13 P/E but as someone posted the other day (MacWire, I think?), I think we just have to accept that aapl is treated in the (comparatively) unfair way it's treated and make decisions accordingly. I've been out since the Watch presentation but if I had more funds, I'd be back in right now. For better or worse, I only invest in 1 or 2 things at the same time (most often aapl) and I think what I'm invested in now will simply do better over the next few months, as it has the past few months. But all things being equal, I'd be an aapl buyer here. I'm also flattered that you would come back after a lengthly hiatus to board-cop me on an link to 9 to 5 piece that referenced a positive article by BI. That sounds like an agenda to me.

Well I guess max pain held on this week. I nearly sold the 116 yesterday but chickened out and dropped to the 115. Still a little boost from the effects of the drop on my long position over the past 2 weeks. Hope everyone figures out how to make money on this pullback. Since I lost those shares I will probably play again next week. Good luck.

Mercel I think the author nails it (from my perspective) with this paragraph. "In all this, the watch reminds me a little of Google Now. It’s not essential - you don’t NEED it. There’s nothing you couldn’t do with a smartphone, not even telling the time. But, like Now, if you let go, flow into it and just let it work, it removes a lot of small tiny daily moments of friction (this was also a common theme at IO and WWDC this year). You wouldn't make a phone call on it, but if you're walking up the stairs with a bag in one hand, a child in the other and a dog on your wrist, and the phone rings, seeing who it is, tapping 'Answer' with your nose (an under-hyped interface innovation) and saying a few words without stopping or putting anything down is, well, a superpower. It's as though you're Elastigirl, doing the laundry."

The Elastigirl thing has me intrigued.... The Watch is mostly about convenience, in its current configuration. Think about all the things we pay for simple convenience. When the health functions improve -- well beyond fitness and heart rate --this will be much more than an accessory. As much as I liked Dick Tracy, the ONLY time I use my Watch to take a phone call is if I'm in the middle of something or my hands are full. I've lost 6-7 pounds with the Watch as my fitness coach. In fact, I worked out with a pro football team this morning. I was tempted to ask one of the players lifting weights if he was the kicker.
