Question for the mods. There is a China thread in the dungeon. A lot of us avoid the dungeon. I think Apple shareholders need to seriously consider the scenario where China invades Taiwan. I am interested in discussing peoples thoughts on taking defensive action now, among other possibilities. I don’t think the dungeon is the place for that discussion, because everything there is highly political.
Suggestions on how we could deal with this?

Even though Shenzen isn’t the hub of production for Apple, there are suppliers to Foxconn and Apple located there. And it demonstrates a change in China’s controlling Covid. Bloomberg www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-16/foxconn-partly-restarts-shenzhen-iphone-hub-hit-by-lockdownsApple Inc. supplier Foxconn Technology Group has resumed partial operations in the Chinese tech hub of Shenzhen, deploying a system that will allow some production to restart while the city remains locked down to curb a virus outbreak. -Foxconn Partly Restarts Shenzhen iPhone Hub Hit by Lockdown -Factories to resume production under bubble-like system -Chinese seeking to mitigate Covid Zero’s economic fallout Apple Inc. supplier Foxconn Technology Group has resumed partial operations in the Chinese tech hub of Shenzhen, deploying a system that will allow some production to restart while the city remains locked down to curb a virus outbreak. Foxconn’s two Shenzhen campuses, one of which makes iPhones, will partly resume activity, according to a statement Wednesday. The Taiwanese company, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., said it won approval from authorities to restart after adopting a “closed loop” management process across the sites, a system that seeks to insulate employees from infection. Operations were halted on Monday after an increase in Covid-19 cases saw Shenzhen put into a one-week lockdown, the first time China has deployed such restrictions in a city of its scale and importance to the economy. Restaurants and public transport have been shut down, and people told not to leave their homes and the city for non-essential reasons, as authorities race to trace infections and suppress the outbreak. The closed-loop system “which can only be done on campuses that include both employee housing and production facilities, adheres to strict industry guidelines and close-loop management policies issued by the Shenzhen government,” Foxconn said in the statement. “The company is also closely following and applying the government’s pandemic prevention measures.” Shenzhen said earlier in the week it would allow factory bubbles -- where workers travel only from company housing to plants and are tested regularly -- as a way of limiting the fallout from the lockdown for business. Foxconn is the most high-profile company to say they’re taking advantage of the policy, which is similar to measures put in place in Wuhan as that city emerged from its months-long lockdown at the start of the pandemic. The shift shows China is trying to find a balance between its Covid Zero policy of quashing outbreaks and avoiding disruption to the world’s second-largest economy. 👍🤞

I am interested in discussing peoples thoughts on taking defensive action now, among other possibilities. I don’t think the dungeon is the place for that discussion, because everything there is highly political. Suggestions on how we could deal with this? What do you think we should do? To me it seems shorter quicker China or Taiwan (EDIT: still AAPL, Apple, or Finance related) things go on the daily page. But this is like snapchat for us "old people". We sometimes have some discussion, and very occasionally even discuss things over multiple days, but for the most part we just keep moving moving moving. Like cdnphoto pointed out, I created the Macro Events on the main page this weekend. To me that is a place to put AAPL, Apple, and Finance related things that are a broader in nature, and that we might want to talk about for a while. Still keep them fit for the board, so leave attacks and most politics out of it. There is also the place in the Dungeon on China. That's a choice too, but we're also not attacking contributors or people there (discuss the idea, don't attack people) and not having most politics. What is "most politics"? Obviously, there are times that some politics are on topic for AAPL, Apple, and Finances. Business taxes. Tariffs. Manufacturing incentives. Antitrust actions. And a whole lot of things. The problem here seems to happen when things change from "Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts" to attacks of people, groups, or posters. Some will say Apple is so big that basically every political thing is related. But this board is for AAPL, Apple, and Finances, so we just can't worry about every butterfly flap in the world. On that point, I moved 2 of the comments from the daily thread over to the dumping ground in the Dungeon. Keep it on topic please, and keep the attacks out of it. Thanks Aaron

Your macro events thread seems like the best alternative.

Japan had a earthquake today: www.cnn.com/2022/03/16/asia/japan-earthquake-fukushima-intl/index.htmlTsunami warnings, 7.3 magnitude, but looks good so far, and much less than the 9.1 in 2011 that caused big problems at the nuclear plant. For those familiar with California earthquakes or who just want a comparison, Google says the 1989 bay area quake that took out a section of the bay bridge and collapsed the cypress structure freeway was a 6.9, northridge was a 6.7, and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was estimated to be a 7.9.

Can there be a link on the daily page to the Macro Events threads?

If you click on the AAPL Finance Board banner or the AAPL Finance Board "menu", it brings you to the main page. On that, it will show you if there is new activity in the Macro thread, so that you don't even have to go there if there is nothing new.
Or, using the AAPL Finance Board "menu", you can easily navigate to the Macro board.
I just put it down in the shoutbox.
But it depends on how you view the board, and what is available. You can also bookmark it, put it in your reading list, or just keep a tab open. OTOH, I'd expect you'd come to more specifically discuss AAPL and Apple, so it's probably ok if in some view modes it takes an extra step or two.

Quite a spike down, across the board, with the fed announcement. They "are considering" up to 6 more rate hikes this year, so including today's .25% change that could change it up to 1.75% (per the story I read, which apparently only considers .25% changes) (EDIT: the takeaway blame is the quick spike down is due to more changes being considered this year than previously said, changing by 1.75% instead of 1.5%) finance.yahoo.com/news/fed-fomc-monetary-policy-decision-march-2022-131719859.htmlThe dot chart is showing the average current assumption average at about 2% at the end of '22, and about 3% by the end of '23 or '24. The Fed seems to often overestimate their predictions a little IMO, giving room if needed to be slightly more aggressive than they will probably end up needing. At the same time, part of the economic movement is off of the outlook instead of the actual changes, and that part even leads the change. AAPL is back up very near the highs of the day, 8 points up from the low/mid 150.x lows from Monday and Tuesday. Still some work on the 20 and 50 DMA, but that's not the only thing that matters these days. But a few more days of positiveness in the market would be nice to see.

Worth noting is the 2 day rally in the Chinese stocks. If this continues this should bring optimism to one of Apple's biggest markets, small investors and bottom feeders. You can still buy some of their stocks for the price of calls. When that happens things can't get much worse. BABA was like Apple used to be with a large portion of its market cap in cash. That is usually a positive. Meanwhile anyone figuring out how to use the famed Apple 30 inch matte cinema display with the new Terminator Box?

Nice late rally to end green. Let’s hope for a strong finish to the week.
