I think it was Peter Lynch who first told me to look at my kids for investment ideas. And I heard it before I had any kids, but I still remember it.
One of my 16 YO sons desperately wanted a quest vr setup. He worked and saved and eventually spent $400+ on it near the end of 2021. It was, by far, his largest purchase ever. From the moment it arrived, he was on it constantly, we even had to completely clear out a room in the house for its almost constant use. Other family members, including me, tried it out a few times, but never became heavy users like him. So for the first half of 2022, he was on the thing quite often, like all the time. My wife joked that he used it so vigorously, it was like a full body workout much of the time. Anyway, come summer I noticed that he was using it less often. And just recently I realized that he never uses it at all anymore. I asked him about it and he said that he hasn't used it at all in a few months, and isn't interested anymore. He still spends plenty of time gaming on his PC and mobile devices, but zero time on the vr device at this point.

Like they typically reduce component orders after peak sales quarter, and/or in advance of a product changeover? Or, out of the ordinary?

We get this same anonymous shit before every earnings report. Tiresome. What a great source - an unnamed manager somewhere. Uh huh.

Ped's "My take: This outlying report of "not that strong" demand, coming from a single unnamed source and a news outlet with a history of late-in-the-quarter Apple bashing, seems to have been taken as gospel by the news desk at Seeking Alpha. And by the Street, which knocked Apple's share price down to $125 in late morning trading and its market cap below $2 trillion."

In July 2020, AAPL stock split, at a new price around 125/share. I remember it because it was near my birthday.
Should’ve sold then and bought an adjustable rate CD.

Also, there are no consequences for pure bullshit and outright manipulation.

Great comments. Thanks. Addition comments over at PED 3.0 along these lines.
A spell like this really test conviction and what my timeline is for holding. Having some cash is helping.

I wonder how many times I would have sold AAPL over the last 22 years if I had sold AAPL every time a negative report came out that *might* have been true? My guess? A lot.

As the baby boomer generation continues to retire and cash out of the market and move to something more secure and less volatile, buying something like a CD makes a lot of sense.

After all the products are likely coming out of China. Sure, anything’s possible. A vague no-name source, especially when one throws in the evil China worry, could be totally right. Or maybe not. Something to “consider” I guess.

Ya, let’s ignore all the times these reports have been complete crap. Maybe this is “the one” right? What I do know that I would be a whole bunch poorer if I was spooked into selling every time some vague source trotted out some doom and gloom Apple story. I have my own reasons to be a seller now. But this latest story/fabrication is not one of them.

In the last 22 years have you ever seen the world in such a volatile mess? In the 2008 crash the Fed lowered interest rates and started QE. Today they are doing just the opposite and we are getting the expected result. This past Christmas quarter Apple would have preformed quit well had it not been the ridiculous supply restraints that they had to manage. The demand was there. And we may find that Apple was able to supply enough product to satisfy a larger part of the demand then the market is predicting. We’ll find out in a few weeks. But for now many are running for safety.

However, I do think that ideology gets in the way of clear thinking on China.

But for now many are running for safety. How many are running for safety and how many are continuing to trying to make money from AAPL investors by piling on by way of more potential bad news for Apple...something like "a single unnamed source and a news outlet with a history of late-in-the-quarter Apple bashing"? I continue to believe that I can hold AAPL longer than the market can remain irrational. META's up 4.24% at this moment...based on what exactly? Great news for META? Is it because of this report, released by the WSJ today? Google and Meta’s Advertising Dominance Fades as TikTok, Streamers EmergeFor the first time in nearly a decade, Google and Meta—the two largest players in online advertising—are no longer taking in the majority of U.S. digital-ad dollars.
Bad news for GOOG and META, right? I'm sure that report will make META investors run for safety. /s

I just bought one whole LEAP, a 115, Jun 25 call as an act of defiance! I noticed AAPL has bounced off this RSI low zone around 37 for the last three years, so I think I'll survive. AAPL RSI
