I hear that Moto finally thought the better of that wood tweet. Though it's a bit late now.

Tiernan Ray blogs about the Moto X after attending the demonstration in NYC. blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2013/08/01/motorola-building-custom-colored-moto-x-in-texas-wood-grain-next/I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this. The specs might not be overwhelming but the device comes to market with a couple of hooks that might appeal to buyers, such as customization and what appears to be integrated voice command functions. AT&T is being given the exclusive for the custom-built devices, which concerns me, because that has always been Apple's chief carrier, and customization might appeal to those who would otherwise gravitate to the iPhone. No, they won't be able to ramp the custom-built devices to large scale production so easily, and who knows how well the voice command system works, but I'm not convinced this product is DOA based on what I know now.

prazan - why be concerned? Competition is ever-present. It's up to Apple to fight the competition and potentially "fed up" carriers.
Patent/copying problems aside, let Moto do its worst. Customization is one thing, build quality is another. I think Moto has to worry about Samsung and HTC and the other top-tier Android BigPhone competition before it takes much of a shot at Apple. Moto X won't necessarily fail, but I hardly see it doing much against ANY entrenched competitor. Particularly since "OK Google now" will make the user wonder more and more what the hell the Moto logo is doing on the back of their phone.
It's time for Google to own the hardware - Moto has such little brand value left...

The Fandroids are dissing the Moto X at high volume, mainly over the pedestrian specs, 4.2 Android and luxury brand price. Wood on the back? Please. Wood cases have been available for the iPhone since the 4 and I've YET to see ONE customer using one. The custom backs are fine, but when are people going to wake up and see Google's highly derivative "Designed by You" as just another ripoff of Apple branding efforts.
The "Made in America" will have some appeal, but honestly, how many Android users care about this given all the allegiance to Scamsung. Moto X is too underwhelming a device to peel the stick from iOS users.
It's a decent enough looking phone, but I see this as a warmed over GS3 without TouchWiz at a much higher price. Frankly, the "Google is always listening" is just plain CREEPY.
This will get as much traction as a banana peel.

Good point about AT&T, they really seem to have fallen out of love with Apple now that every other US carrier has the iPhone. That refusal to state iPhone activations last quarter was a bit bizarre, maybe part of a deal with another handset supplier to stop showing how dominant the iPhone is (that sounds like something Samsung would quite likely do). Oh well, so sad, too bad for them the users are already hooked on iPhone

Any chance that explains lower volume of late? Yet, Travis claims evidence of HFT manipulation with AAPL today. i'm going to have to do some reading this weekend.

This was exactly the theory I brought up last week - volume seems to have taken a sustained lull since MJ White took over as SEC Chair. Finally good to see the regulators actually starting to....regulate!
