On September 23, 2013, Apple Inc. (the "Company") announced that it has sold over nine million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models, just three days after the launch of the new iPhones on September 20. Apple expects total company revenue for the fourth fiscal quarter to be near the high end of the previously provided range of $34 billion to $37 billion, and expects gross margin to be near the high end of the previously provided range of 36% to 37%. Amazing results!!! I never thought 9 was actually possible, and I'm very excited!
But here's where the stock market makes no sense at all... Apple was valued at around 505/share after they introduced these phones that were seen as "disappointing." Now that that has proven to be incorrect, and all uncertainty has been removed, we should be over the announcement price *immediately*

Perhaps the updated guidance, that is essentially telling investors that these impressive numbers were baked into guidance. Meaning no real upside to this quarters performance even with these results. Hmmm, I didn't see that updated guidance in my normal news feed. I guess I'll look it up. Thanks. No news on Apple's site, it was an SEC filing. See Artman's post below.

IMHO: SOLD is not the same as ACTIVATED. If Apple had said, We have sold more than 9 million and activated 7 million, that would have been more impressive. Awesome Artman. Now if Apple could only lose money every quarter like Amazon we'd be off to the moon.

I find it very encouraging that Apple expects both revenue and guidance to come it at the high-end. That more or less confirms that Apple didn't get blindsided by higher 5S demand relative to the 5C. IMHO: SOLD is not the same as ACTIVATED. If Apple had said, We have sold more than 9 million and activated 7 million, that would have been more impressive. Yes, it would have been nice. But since there is virtually no stock of the iPhone 5S to be had, the sold but not activated would be mostly the iPhone 5C. Could there be about 2 million iPhone 5Cs in inventory worldwide? Good post, thank you.

A little surprised by the fading so far I guess the FED whatever might be at fault. Gut feeling a push of over 500 by mid week.
Bought 5s the other day. White/silver last 32gb of day Friday. Walked in and only took half an hour maybe. Love it so far. Seems battery is better than 5 with ios7 (iOS 7 for my 5 really killed battery)
Individual stock wise I think AAPL ready to run. Hoping broader market isn't too much of a negative impact.

Just saw Apple's "revised guidance". Bit LOL that, but dips seem more buyable now! Exactly what that means...don't ask me.

Ok. Turned on CNBC in long while and first words out of Carlos' mouth is Apple reported "decent" iPhone sales. What a F'ing moron. Decent? You have some kind of self-torture fetish? Why go anywhere near CNBC? It lasted 3 minutes. CNBC's ratings are down for a reason, largely because the show is a bunch of fluff and lacks credibility. Can you imagine if the hosts started holding its guests to some accountability? Mix in a little "Meet the Press," in your face interviews and CNBC's credibility and viewership would soar. Right now, CNBC is just a bag of marshmallows.

Now if history repeats itself, 9,000,000 first weekend sales indicates 80+ Million during the December quarter. Who says Apple needs a low cost iPhone? You realize you're extrapolating from 2-3M of channel fill with the 5c. THIS is the reason behind the 9M, an aberration because the 4s was already in the channel September 2012. I'm still encouraged, because the 5s is really that great -- the fingerprint is almost fun to use, with iOS7 adding more features and visual appeal. iTunes will do better in the December quarter because iRadio will sell more music (and attract new users to the ecosystem).

Right now there are those that have made a nice 10% gain in 5 trading days. Just like everyone has a southern orifice, everyone has a different trading strategy. SG is idiotic.
4S sales will come, or not.
CM may well start out with only "new" iPhones., though the way this company's going, I wouldn't 100% rule out reengineering of the 4S to add TD–SCDMA. Does seem very unlikely though given the probable demand and the 5C dropping to the 4S tier next year.

I guess their thinking is maybe lets say 4 million was 5C channel fill and 5S was 5 million... So same as last year. Its interesting.... but really its too hard to tell. I wouldn't make any downgrade/up grade decisions until the quarterly results thought, because WTF do they know? maybe 7 million was 5C and the 5S was actually really contained and was on 2 million. We wont know for a few weeks.

Seriously? WTF was their rationale?? I don't have a problem with that. The way I see is that Goldman is accumulating between now and earning/GUIDANCE. They don't want to force the price of AAPL up any faster than it is going to move on its own. My confidence that Apple will guide more than $60 Billion Revenue for the December quarter strengthens.

My confidence that Apple will guide more than $60 Billion Revenue for the December quarter strengthens. Last year they did $54.5. If Oppie says: " We expect revenue to be between $56 billion and $60 billion compared to $54.5 billion in the year ago quarter."I would not be surprised....

Mercel, we're gonna have to start prepping that launchpad!
Gold supplies were really low (but not so bad in other markets, maybe) and still a 9M number. Wow.
