I think we all got a chance to peek under apple supply chains skirt today and the market generally liked what it saw.

Just received WSJ email alert on a new story about the Apple-CM deal, with quotes from both CEOs stating that the deal goes beyond just iPhones. CM CEO also states that they have already received multi-million orders from customers.
Of course, WSJ can't print a purely positive article, so there's a vague line at the end about analysts saying that the CM deal will be "no panacea" for Apple's China sales, without explaining why Apple's sales would require a panacea at all...

m.us.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303595404579321402240063612?mg=reno64-wsjBEIJING—Apple Inc.'s deal with China Mobile Ltd. to sell iPhones won't be limited to handsets, but will also entail broad cooperation between the two companies, the chairman of the world's largest carrier said Wednesday. China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua said that already multi-millions of Apple's iPhones have been ordered by its customers, signaling strong demand for the device. Apple's iPhones will begin selling at China Mobile, the world's largest carrier by subscribers, starting Friday. Speaking in a small media briefing to Chinese media and The Wall Street Journal, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said he is "incredibly optimistic" about the outcome of the cooperation with the Chinese carrier. "We've gotten to know each other....today is a beginning, and I think there are lots more things our companies can do together in the future," Mr. Cook said. The new cooperation with China Mobile is the last piece of the puzzle for Apple in the country, officially making the iPhones available through all three of China's state-run telecom carriers. Though neither Apple nor China Mobile would comment on the exact terms of the deal, Apple is likely to get a considerable bump from China Mobile, which analysts expect to spend generously on marketing and handset subsidies to sell the iPhones. The cooperation also massively expands the reach of Apple's sales channels in China, making the iPhones available in China Mobile's thousands of stores that range across the country from large cities to tiny hamlets. "As of this weekend we will be selling iPhones in more than 3,000 additional locations," Mr. Cook said. "China Mobile already has a reach to many cities that Apple does not have a reach to." Still, Apple faces headwinds in China as high prices for the smartphones and a lack of significant carrier subsidies has led consumers to buy cheaper options that run Google Inc.'s Android operating system. According to Apple's China website, the unsubsidized retail price of a 16-gigabyte iPhone 5S is 5,288 yuan ($870), while an iPhone 5C with the same storage capacity costs 4,488 yuan ($738). Mr. Cook said Apple wants to reach as many Chinese consumers as possible by offering iPhones through China Mobile, and added that the country has more than half a million people writing apps for the U.S. company's iOS operating system. "Apple has always been about making the best products, not the most products, so that's always our North Star and that's not going to change ever," said Mr. Cook. While the iPhone remains a highly coveted product for many Chinese consumers, more customers are opting for cheaper options, many of which are produced by local companies like Xiaomi Inc. and Huawei Technologies Co. Analysts say the new deal will be no panacea for Apple's sales in China, though it could give it a healthy shot in the arm. The deal will give Apple access to China Mobile's more than 700 million subscribers—roughly seven times the customers who use Verizon Wireless, the largest carrier in the U.S. Analysts project the new agreement could bring Apple anywhere from 15 million to 39 million iPhones through the carrier in 2014.

OVER 3,000 new retail locations - I'm guessing by the language Apple is going to be using China Mobile for Mac, iPad & other "future device" distribution.
MULTI-MILLIONS PREORDERED.

Hard to read anything in this as other than wildly positive.
You would think Wall Street could read between the lines....

Whoa. Well, we'll see about AAPL soon.
Multi-millions isn't, like, 2 million.

Whoa. Well, we'll see about AAPL soon. Multi-millions isn't, like, 2 million. Right....plus lots of LTE iPads ( as you surmised) to fill up those data pipes. And look at the number of developers in China! Huge...

Meanwhile, back in FQ1 Among iPhones, the 5S snags the biggest share in sales"The iPhone 5S appeared to take share from both the mid-priced iPhone 5C and legacy iPhone 4S," CIRP partner and co-founder Mike Levin said in a statement. "In contrast, after the iPhone 5 launched a year ago, the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 continued to sell strongly for many months. In the most recent quarter we also saw models with larger storage capacities sell better than before." Sounds like Gross Margin goodness to me.

Mercel...paging Mercel...is that Saturn V launchpad prepped? Well, I was hoping for some uplifting Tim-speak on Monday, so on today's rise, I rolled out of my Jan 14 options today. This will push AAPL tomorrow. I obviously didn't get the memo. Looking forward to next 2 weeks. My EPS is $15.07.

And I don't think the $550 wall comes down this Friday, unless we get more happy talk from Tim. This stock is so cheap it's stupid.

1.2 million preorders as of Jan 13 Cnbc have updated the story: www.cnbc.com/id/101336809A deal to sell iPhones on China Mobile's vast network is a "watershed moment," Apple CEO Tim Cook told CNBC on Wednesday. China Mobile, the world's largest mobile company, starts selling Apple iPhones in China this Friday. Apple and China Mobile announced a long-awaited deal last month, with access to China Mobile's network of an estimated 760 million subscribers seen as a crucial next step for Apple. "This is a watershed moment," said Cook, who is in Beijing for Friday's launch. He referred to China Mobile as a great cellphone firm with a "very fast network." China Mobile said it did not have exact sales estimates. The firm said as of January 13, it had received 1.2 million pre-orders or 60,000 per day since December 25. The mobile phone carrier said it was not releasing details of subsidies, which will be released with its annual results in March.

Wow. 1.2M preorders without consumers knowing the subsidy structure.
That's seriously impressive.
Not seeing the spike in futures on investing.com...

I'd call it buying time. With some of the meager cash I'd sworn NEVER to use for trading.

CNBC is showing the futures spike but no one else. Have a feeling they're incorrect.

Wow. 1.2M preorders without consumers knowing the subsidy structure. I'm not sure that's what it means...the consumer must obviously know the price when he orders. I think what it means is that they won't reveal until results how much subsidy CM is paying per phone, which depends on what price Apple is charging CM for the phone.

Well...if the consumer knows, the media would've found out somehow by now, right? Mercel, any comment on that? Say, from The Mercel Network?

Well, the article says that CM will only reveal information about subsidies when they release their results in MARCH, whereas the phone is on sale this Friday. So obviously 'subsidy' and 'price to consumer' are two different things.

"Apple Inc. Chief Executive Tim Cook said Wednesday its deal with China Mobile Ltd to offer iPhones will help bolster sales of the device that hit a record high in Greater China in the fiscal first quarter."
