In honor of AAPL on the morning of the stock split – and most importantly: MY BIRTHDAY:
While you were sleeping:

Europe: Green
US Futures: Fairly flat
AAPL in PM: $92.40 (+0.18) or (0.20%)
Economic Calendar:

Snapshot news on AAPL:
JPM – Rod Hall: AAPL Splits/Acquires Spotsetter, iWatch timing, Google reportedly looking at streaming and more…:
Apple Acquires Social Search Startup Spotsetter: Spotsetter is a social search engine using big data to offer personalized recommendations on places to go. Spotsetter is said to have filed patents related to its recommendation algorithms, which may have been of interest to Apple.
Our View: We believe that this is yet another search related deal similar to Topsy. Apple appears to want to use social data cues to improve search results in our opinion
iWatch to Be Launched in October: The iWatch will be equipped with a centralized function to manage users' biometric information via smartphones, and is expected to hit the market in October, according to an article on Nikkei citing unnamed sources. The article said that the device will likely use a curved OLED touchscreen and collect health-related data, such as calorie consumption, sleep activity, blood glucose and blood oxygen levels. It will also allow users to read messages sent by smartphones. Apple reportedly appears confident of the new product, and plans monthly commercial output of about 3-5 million units.
Our View: This timing roughly agrees with our supply chain checks but, at this early stage, precise timing estimates are difficult in our opinion. We also question whether all of biometric measurement speculated on in this article will materialize. As usual we expect a limited set of well developed and utilized features from Apple
Google Reportedly in the Market for Streaming Music Service: After Apple’s acquisition of Beats, Google is in the market for a streaming music service and has been quietly surveying the landscape, according to unnamed sources cited by NY Post. The article said although there are no official talks between parties, they’ve been having discussions with banks about “how they’re shaping their future music strategy.”
Our View: To some extent this shows that Google continues to trail Apple in terms of consumer experience thinking. We also believe that Apple’s SDK release last week places them firmly ahead of the Android camp.
