Mercel - But but rev beat? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) So, did MSFT miss on EPS by a few cents? Jon Fortt says no real loss of morale at MSFT? Ex-Nokia, that's STILL a substantial cut in employees.

artman, if you could provide links where appropriate. The copied type of the (year-ago) press release is larger than yours.

I'm not sure it matters either way, eh? Halt for "good news", halt for "not-so-good news"...

MSFT barely has a Revenue beat. When is CNBC going to start educating viewers that Revenue and Profit are different things?

Please allow me a moment before earnings to comment on the wonders of Chipotle. For some of the members, it's Wall Street's love affair with Amazon or Google (or both) that drives them up the wall. It does for me as well. But when I witness buyers flocking to Chipotle today, driving the price up almost $77 ( 13.18%), to over $667/share, I just have to wonder about the fundamental appeal of investing in a company that serves burritos instead of a company that provides wonderful, innovative hardware and software. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm better now. which can you live without- wonderful innovative hardware and software, or food? i don't get why chipotle is a mystery to people. they keep expanding, and there is always a line usually to the door, no matter which chipotle i'm at. it's a big double digit increase after earnings, but it's not something unheard of, especially for chipotle. theyve had big swings up/down on earnings in the past. other companies besides aapl are allowed to go up as well. Krispy Kreme, et all. Most restaurant stories grow, explode, burn. Not all....but Chipolte seems vulnerable. JMHO

How long was the line? That's what I used to say about Panera. Always busy but still have to manage the business. Good luck all! Hey there Chas! <10% AAPL trades in my meager portfolio heading into earnings. YMMV of course. Good luck to all! Hey Mav! Expecting good iPhone #s, not so good iPad but don't know if that matters this time of year. Can't imagine less than good guidance. If not, they fibbed about "new" products this year.

Apple Reports Third Quarter Results iPhone, Mac & Services Growth Drive Record June Quarter Revenue & 20% EPS Growth CUPERTINO, California—July 22, 2014—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2014 third quarter ended June 28, 2014. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $37.4 billion and quarterly net profit of $7.7 billion, or $1.28 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $35.3 billion and net profit of $6.9 billion, or $1.07 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.4 percent compared to 36.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 59 percent of the quarter’s revenue. Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $.47 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on August 14, 2014, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on August 11, 2014. “Our record June quarter revenue was fueled by strong sales of iPhone and Mac and the continued growth of revenue from the Apple ecosystem, driving our highest EPS growth rate in seven quarters,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are incredibly excited about the upcoming releases of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, as well as other new products and services that we can’t wait to introduce.” “We generated $10.3 billion in cash flow from operations and returned over $8 billion in cash to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases during the June quarter,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. “We have now taken action on over $74 billion of our $130 billion capital return program with six quarters remaining to its completion.” Apple is providing the following guidance for its fiscal 2014 fourth quarter: revenue between $37 billion and $40 billion gross margin between 37 percent and 38 percent operating expenses between $4.75 billion and $4.85 billion other income/(expense) of $250 million tax rate of 26.1 percent www.apple.com/pr/library/2013/07/23Apple-Reports-Third-Quarter-Results.html

AAPL should be ok tomorrow. But WS likes revenue more than profit, so what the hell.
Hey Chas. What's up?

I was right on a high GM and right to be fearful of IPad sales.
My 1.24 guess....? Meh.....

On iPhone sales, Luca Maestri told the Financial Times:
"We have started to see some purchase delays"
No surprise there.

Nice, I'll take EPS and margin beats, revs and and 3-quarter-old iPhone meets.
As for guidance, I think Luca Brasi might have set us up for a big beat, assuming a Sept iPhone 6 release.

Hoping that the call comes off as optimistic, like in April. Still a chance to go higher.

AAPL should be ok tomorrow. But WS likes revenue more than profit, so what the hell. Hey Chas. What's up? Hey Mercel! Things are fine. A lot less risk in my portfolio these days and sleeping better these days :-). Lots of golf, a little work, no complaints. Need to get out there this year to see you guys. Will add more on any dips. Would love to short MSFT! I bet the rats are scurrying tiding up their resumes. Take care!

Chas, I was going to pull some out but I'm long so not interested in short term movements too much.
I'll be traveling in a couple of months so let me know in advance when you ride into town.
Shorting MSFT is getting VERY tempting. The culture is full of B & C players and their business model needs a complete reboot (and not on a PC). Ben Thompson had a great write up yesterday about Softie and he's dead on the money.

the Product refresh cycle in the coming quarter is "not exactly like it was in the same quarter last year"....timing of refresh or products, I wonder....or both?
