OpEx will weigh more than it _seems_ like it should on results, and that's bugging me.
But Wall Street will be looking more at sentiment/narrative/new products a few days/couple weeks from now...or maybe I'm totally wrong on this.

OpEx is one of those catchall line items that can be either bad news, no news, good news or just a line item. You would hope that Wall Street understands that Apple knows how to use capital and that expense is highly efficient, regardless of just where the money may be spent or committed. WS Codex: Apple parks money in T-bills: "OMG Apple not properly using its cash, should make acquisitions." Apple buys Beats: "OMG apple doesn't innovate, has to buy companies." Apple spends on R&D to innovate: "OMG, Apple wasting money, killing EPS."

I just found it interesting that no one pointed out, and Apple didn't say anything about, the spike in OpEx relative to the rest of the fiscal year.
I mean, it's not a stretch to say this is probably gonna show up as increased R&D spending, but it's worth keeping in mind as October rolls around. The upside is pretty obvious, but never overestimate the foresight of Wall Street (and the incredible Power of Doubt™).

I'm no accountant but I'd call a Foxbot a capital expenditure, unless Apple is actually spending tons of money on the development of automated production, in which case that's definitely R&D.

Please allow me a moment before earnings to comment on the wonders of Chipotle. For some of the members, it's Wall Street's love affair with Amazon or Google (or both) that drives them up the wall. It does for me as well. But when I witness buyers flocking to Chipotle today, driving the price up almost $77 ( 13.18%), to over $667/share, I just have to wonder about the fundamental appeal of investing in a company that serves burritos instead of a company that provides wonderful, innovative hardware and software. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm better now. which can you live without- wonderful innovative hardware and software, or food? i don't get why chipotle is a mystery to people. they keep expanding, and there is always a line usually to the door, no matter which chipotle i'm at. it's a big double digit increase after earnings, but it's not something unheard of, especially for chipotle. theyve had big swings up/down on earnings in the past. other companies besides aapl are allowed to go up as well. Of course no one has to choose between hardware/software or food. But so far I've been able to get by without choosing to go to Chipotle more than once. The food was decent but, for me, not a be-back. However, I do frequent this place every week: www.aquicalmex.com It's much superior to Chipotle, IMO. But it's local to my area and that's just a matter of availability of choice. I don't wonder why people go to Chipotle to eat, I wonder why Chipotle stock is valued so highly by investors. I was hoping for a good bump for AAPL after hours but I wouldn't expect an $11.20 bump no matter what was reported. And of course other companies are allowed to up as well as Apple. All I'm saying is, that if I were given a large sum of money to start a company to compete with Apple or a company to compete with Chipotle, I'd be out searching for unique burrito recipes.

Today's report was SOLID.
Foxbots would be capital expenditures.
And to Trip Chowdhry and his silly FUD -- do us all a favor and go back to driving a cab.
Provided the overall market doesn't experience exhaustion, August should be good to AAPL.
Decent guidance with room for Apple to deliver a beat in September (on sales, EPS and margin).

Wondering if Q4 becomes the "8-K quarter".
I think Q4 could be great for Apple and Q1 even better with the help of a new product category or two. Just waiting to see if anyone cares all that much about OpEx (I see it as a huge positive, but that's just li'l ol me). PED should have some analyst notes collected by tomorrow.

AAPL was pressured down about 2% max for all of a minute when the news hit before it stabilized. So far, it's like AAPL traded unchanged today. Looking forward to IV deflation (just as soon as anyone here with a pure option trade gets out/hedges it up first of course ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) May make it easier for me to do stupid option trades in the near future.
