Looking to modernize the Richfield grade school where she works, and flush with a cash for a major technology purchase, Tonicia Abdur-Salaam went in search of classroom computers at the Mall of America not long ago. First she stopped in the Apple retail store there, but found that "they weren't very friendly," she said. "They weren't very responsive in terms of forming a relationship. Relationships go a long way." Then she went into the Microsoft store directly across from the Apple store, and "I just hit it off" with Microsoft staffers, she added. "They were so respectful and so excited to have the opportunity to work with me." Such stories are rarely heard amid the hype about Apple's popular products, hipster image and its hugely lucrative retail stores. www.twincities.com/technology/ci_21863651/microsoft-taking-small-bite-out-apple-storesThis story has problems on so many levels but here's the big one. Charter school? Computer labs? PC's? It's back to the 90's for these kids.

There is an old quote this reminds me of: Believe none of what you read and only half of what you see. Sometimes stories are exactly THAT....stories. AAPL can be criticized for a million things but service and helpfulness is NOT one of them. I just don't buy it but hey - I'm a New Yorker so I am always thinking someone has an angle. FIDDLESTICKS! The author of this article (Julio) is the NUMBER 1 booster of ALL things Apple in the state of Minnesota. (That means he is a bigger fanboy than Gene Munster or me or any other Minnesotan blogging here) He is a journalist for a newspaper. He is not a blogger. Read his other articles. FWIW: I have been to the MOA Apple store about 20 times. I have been to Mr.Softie's store twice. I have never had a problem with either stores. This will be a story in the upcoming days. ONE of the comments to the article nailed it: Harold Turnquist · Top Commenter Apparently the staff of Partnership Academy charter school are not aware that Apple sells directly to schools and school districts at a significant discount. The staff of the Apple store undoubtedly rarely, if ever, deal with a school or school district except for small purchases such as adapters and cables. I can't imagine a school, school district, or other government agency walking into a retail store, let alone purchasing big ticket items, based upon a "relationship" with a sales person. Reply · 2 · Like · Follow Post · 20 hours ago The article sounds suspect. How did he find these people? What led to the interview of this school staffer. How much of a discount did the school get if they were willing to speak to the press? Sorry...still don't buy it. Doesn't mean the writer was corrupt but maybe the story was planted. Again, skeptical...sorry....but it's just my opinion...you are entitled to yours as well and we can all play nicely in this sandbox.

Has anyone logged onto Amazon.com tonight? It's pretty disgusting...their main home page compares them (Kindle Fire HD) to the AAPL mini and of course they say that you get much more for less with them. Go ahead...visit the site. I effing hate Bezos - he is a "Madoff mini"

I remember the old days when wireless technology was underdeveloped, if you wanted to transfer data between computers and phones you had to actually connect them physically. Now of course, there are so many options to do those same transfers wirelessly. It's nice to see that Samsung has introduced a nostalgia version of their smartphone that requires two phones to be connected physically to transfer information. It's "retro" which is cool these days, I'm sure they will sell a lot.

I'm missing it. Are you suggesting Apple is losing share in the education market? Is this a man bites dog story, mentioned because it's the exception to the rule?

SANDY may turn out to be a very serious hurricane in the USA as it has been in Haiti and Cuba. Having said that, I found this tweet to be funny.

Good luck, Phoebear, RutgersGuy, and others in the storm's path. I'm west of D.C. Millions in the region lost power during the last big storm. We'll hope the lights stay on for everyone. Thanks, P.

I've been curious about those "exchange a playlist just by touching" ads; I mean, is the claim that it exchanges the songs, also, that fast? Same for the new "movies" exchange commercial, although I have to admit that one is amusing. Can anyone with direct knowledge comment on this "feature"?

Reuters is now saying market will indeed be sloshed tomorrow. Well that is it. I'm sorry, but I have never seen such a massively pussified reaction to a category 1 hurricane. Give me a break. Keep calm and carry on, for God's sake.

Keep calm and carry on, for God's sake. I'm from back East. When hurricanes of various forces blow thru and by they are short lived and usually occur in warm temps. The big bear storms are the Nor'Easters which are violent, chilly, and last a long time. It appears these two types of weather events will combine , hence the preparations. Nothing Pussified about being prepared with food, H20, and whatever else a family might require. I just hope all those folks buying new generators have houses wired for generators and aren't going to be endangering the utility crews as they work to get things back on line.
