Can I be honest? Still not floored with the watch That said I feel obligated to buy one. I want it to succeed:) That's one of the reason's I said I won't "replace" but I DO want to play with it - at a minimum it looks like fun and I'm sure it will be a spring board to a million other things. I'm guessing the (ahem...) cheapo model will sell out asap.

If I'm in the gym can the phone be in push mode to send me calls or texts or whatever? I know that isn't in the current iteration. But v2 surely something like that is possible? (I've not watched the full keynote I don't know if the phone connects to wifi )

If I can connect the watch to wifi and my phone is on cellular. If I'm in the gym can the phone be in push mode to send me calls or texts or whatever? If phone and watch are both on WiFi, that can communicate that way as opposed to Bluetooth. So yes, you can get push notifications and even answer calls on the watch via WiFi.

There's a reason why Retina MacBook 12" is a bridge product. Also, don't think Apple hasn't hoovered up TONS of info over the years about how people use their Macs and what they do and don't plug into them. There will be loud complaints. I'm not Apple's target market for the device as yet. Heck, you need an adapter just to charge your iPhone. And where's MagSafe?! OTOH, there was much guffawing over the first MacBook Air. Price is nice btw. Why a "bridge product?" It has a retina display. Honestly, I don't know how Apple improves this from here, except for speed and battery. I'm watching the event now: Did everyone catch Tim say the words "and this is just the beginning..." following the end of the Apple TV news with HBO. The health research initiative is really a great thing to help people (not to mention drive more iPhone sales). It's something only Apple can do safely and securely. Can you imagine trusting Android with ANYTHING? Very nice video of ResearchKit! This is the kind of gift that keeps giving...

We will get the stainless 38mm with Milanese band for Mrs. Rez, and 42mm with black rubber band for me. The stainless premium comes with a sapphire face and a little more heft. Are those worth the $200 premium? If the watch lasts 4 years, that's $1 per week insurance on scratches. Sign me up, Scotty.

I might have meant MacBook Airs are bridge products. Whoops.

The MacBook is fantastic. Over the last few years, I've seen more and more people driving a MBA. Now, they have something really new to lust over. WANT NOW.
Today, we didn't see much of a dip at all in AAPL, which bodes well for AAPL longs.
Watch coming up. Why does the leather band cost the same as the Milanese loop band?

Yes indeed, it was a throw away comment but guaranteed, this *is* just the beginning. The ResearchKit released as Open Source is going to be interesting to watch. iOS developers/researchers can leverage the Cloud Kit frameworks to keep research data sandboxed while aggregating. Android? Not so much.

"But Mercel you need an adapter just to charge your iPhone."
Milanese Loop being "only" $149 seemed surprising. May be one of the "values" of the lineup. Though keep away from water, even more than the leather?

Though keep away from water, even more than the leather? My first glance at that (because the wife wants the Milanese) shows a $50 for any band. If the watch comes with the Milanese already, the incremental from the next lowest model is only $100. Unless I missed a number somewhere. $549 for stainless 38mm with black rubber band, $649 for stainless 38mm with Milanese.

Sold separately price. Milanese + Sport? I'll MAKE it work. When I ran the numbers again the price either way comes out to $698. $649 plus $49 band, or $549 plus $149 band. Hey, it's late!

For those who consider $17,000 a little steep for a watch that won't be a family heirloom (Rolex, etc) to pass to the next generation, I think nathanstevens, mace and some others on the forum are on the right track when they point out that Apple is not targeting most of us on the forum. They're targeting folks who can spend $16,000 on a Burberry alligator bowling bag which will also not become a family heirloom.

Never thought that Burberry targeted the bowling crowd. Hopefully, they don't put those bags in the back of the pickup while in transit.

A $40,000+ current-gen 328i moderately equipped ain't an heirloom either, not to most. As an AAPL long THANK YOU to those, many in Asia/China, who can and will buy Edition without a second thought. Esp. more than one.

The leather straps are BACK ... even with the "sportier versions" of Cartiers and Rolexes! The metal bands are sooo early 2000! Actually - anything goes these days but the metal bands have been quite overdone. I had been eyeing some exquisite leather strap French and Swiss babies ... but will probably opt for the Fruit first (but not instead of...not yet, anyway). Ugh, love ya Phobes, but this is why I hate fashion (vs style). I abhor this trend of exaggerated (far more than suits and pants were actually cut in the early 60's) skinny pants and thin ties and spread collars. So effeminate-looking. Please go away already and bring back my pleated loose-fitting trousers and pointed collars. IMO, fashion comes and goes, but classic styles never go out (like the Submariner, or chinos). Fashion is a euphemism for "throw all that stuff away that was in last season and buy our new stuff." Women are too obsessed with fashion (over style). Those clunky-ass closed-toe heels are so fugly. But they're in! Bleech! Women actually wear the type of shoe above and think they are pretty because fashion magazines told them so. This is why I think fashion magazines are irrelevant when it comes to the Watch. Hopefully, it is considered stylish, not just the latest fashion fad. "Look at her shoes. If a fashion magazine told her to, she’d wear cats strapped to her feet." -- Rupert Giles. Yes, I actually just quoted Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

People who will pay $15,000 for a first class flight to London don't give a shit about heirlooms when they have Luckychoices money to leave their kids to buy Watch Edition 9S. Keep in mind, Rolex makes 2,000 watches per day, and they are but one Swiss watch maker. I think it is hard for most people to comprehend (myself included, Tim Cook not included) how many people out there have money to burn. It's a big world.

665,019,000 iphones sold thru 12/31/14 recently sold 700,000,000 35 million in the last 68 days hmmm Good catch. But where did you get the 665M number? And fiscal quarter end was 12/27, not 12/31. Assuming 54M iPhones this quarter (593,400/day), the likely day Apple reached 700M iPhones would be 59 days from 12/27 or February 24th.

I'm clearly not one of those people since our flight to London in Sept 2014 was something on BA called "Economy Plus" ≠ $15,000 ≠ First class JD, please can we make that an Watch Edition 25S that my sons will be buying? It just seems so much farther out there.

Tech coverage has been positive post-event. How could it not? Apple is at the top of its game. Generally positive. As for the iPhone number, it's a disguised data point. Tim Cook will only mostly-say 35M iPhones were sold. "Recently" gives a lot of wiggle room. See also "early 2015" Watch launch and as a sidenote, the vapid "well that's not early by MY calendar" pretensiousness from commentators who may secretly wish they were 1/1000th as successful as Apple.
