I think there's a real risk that Sammy's lackluster iWatch will ruin market demand for whatever Apple releases. Apple should have beat Sammy to the punch on this one.

It's not who's first, it's who's best. Cough Atrix scanner cough Also, I bet Apple will get sued between 2 weeks and 2 years from now for "patent infringement" based on its own IP and that of Authentec. That and/or the usual anonymous attempt to invalidate said IP. All of the best legal minds and all the $$ in the world won't stop that. There is another firm, Validity, that also uses RF scanners for fingerprint authentication. I thought Authentec was the only one. Should get interesting. Authentec is the only one with the technology that can read the living tissue layer beneath the surface of the finger. Reading this layer eliminates inaccuracies caused by injuries and harsh working conditions that distort the fingerprint surface.

i wish apple's iWatch was all a fake product to throw samsung off while they go in a whole other direction. then when these watches bomb, everyone would laugh at samsung. i just can't see people wearing these in mass.
maybe just creeps who want a camera on their wrist

I'm looking for the 2:14 P.M. move to a new daily high today. The "after lunch" money will make a move and any shorts hoping for a pullback will capitulate.

Apple should ship when the product is ready, not in anticipation of a competitor's schedule. The Mac was not the first desktop computer. The iPod was not the first digital music player. The iPhone was not the first handset. The iPad was not the first tablet. All of the above were best in class and sold like crazy, establishing themselves as de facto standards.

I think the China event will come across as a very smart move because the 'sell-the-news' drop might not happen on the 10th with hopes that there's big news coming out of China soon. And if that news is in fact big, then the pop in AAPL will continue well beyond the $500 barrier. but they can still sell the news after the china announcement, once market opens? Yes, but a double whammy from Apple will quite likely overpower the sell-the-news reaction.

It is the RF that penetrates the outer surface of the finger to eliminate surface errors due to dirt, oils etc.

Hmm.
Market rally today - any particular reason?
Apple event in China - more like satellite event/replay? AAPL still looks good tho. I did still put on a short/medium-term trade, timing be damned.

Also wonder how long the Galaxy Gear lasts when it's used as a speakerphone. And what's this I hear about not supporting the S4 out of the gate? That must be wrong.

Or it could mean China Mobile AND Docomo. If it does I'm upgrading my shoulder harness for a 5 point strap in.

I think it would be best if Tim Cook presented in China. His presence on the US stage is not that important to the US demographic, but could show the China market how important they are to Apple.

From my research, which admittedly may not be complete, Authentec is the only technology that reads that layer.

Gruber sums up the Samsung smartwatch pretty well:
"About the best you could expect from Samsung without having anything to copy from Apple: Overpriced, ugly, dubious utility"

Apple presentations are the most professional in business. I'm not sure how they can pull off a similar level of professionalism at a different venue. It will be interesting to see how they produce the China show. If TC does put in an appearance (my guess is remote video feed) then it will be largely symbolic, or they'll need slick simultaneous translation.

Maybe the presenter in Beijing will say, "Oh and one more thing..." as Tim Cook materializes mid stage using the new Apple iTransporter?

Thoughts from this morning's scan of AFB Intraday. Wacky price points ($777, $1,111, etc) make it easy for the analyst to do a web search for articles containing that number. Apple skipped the netbook craze, responded with the MBA. They are skipping the phablet craze (so far), responding by doubling down on the 4" screen. China media event is huge. If I were Apple the domestic launch would start with a videotaped Tim intro and then be entirely run by Uncle Phil. China would be the CEO in person with one other principal (probably Mansfield) and introduce a robust team from the second string who speak Chinese. Pining away for a Samsung watch. OK, not really.

i know samsung is much more than just mobile, but i find it kind of funny/odd that I can't find any hint of the note3 or samsung galaxy gear on their homepage, or even in any subpage.
immediately after apple events, the new product will be plastered right on the home page for people to look at/lead about/pre-order etc.
