No sell off in very early PMT trading. JP Morgan raised their PT very slightly from $600 to $615. Meanwhile from Digitimes: "Samsung, TSMC to share Apple 14/16nm chip orders" www.digitimes.com/news/a20131218PD207.html

Hope those with short term trades who were banking on an announcement don't get hurt too bad today.
I think an announcement was baked in since the 510s. The results are certainly not. Best guess is that it will take years before the benefits of the CML deal are fully realized.

Not so sure it will take years, doc. You know better than most that WS trades on future earnings potential. If and when there is a deal, I believe it will be enough to push the stock...but this stock doesn't always trade in a rational way. So I guess we'll see.

I said this a couple of days ago, but this weeks option put wall at $550 is likely to be the low for Fridays close.

Comments made by China Mobile's CEO at a press conference, as reported by the FT this morning:
The Chinese smartphone market will grow to 400 million units next year. CM could sell 190 - 220 million handsets for its 3G and 4G networks next year. Next year's sales could include 100 million 4G TD-LTE devices.

Here is an English translation of relevant information on reputable Chinese news sites yesterday: TAIPEI, Dec 18 (Reuters) - China Mobile Ltd said it's still in talks with Apple Inc to sell iPhones amid mounting industry speculation that the pair are about to announce a deal to net the technology giant hundreds of millions of potential new customers. Xi Guohua, the chairman of the world's largest mobile phone carrier, said on Wednesday morning that his company had no announcement to make on any deal to carry Apple's smartphones. Xi was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Guangzhou, a southern city of China. finance.yahoo.com/news/china-mobile-chairman-says-still-102932602.html

Interesting that 36k shares are setting the tone. It must be fun to be a hedge fund manipulating your position.

I believe that if and when there is a Chinese Mobile deal, Apple will issue a press release about an hour before the US markets open.

Daily SMA-20 = 548.30 (div-adjusted)
IIRC, the non-div is around 544. (I'm in bed on my iPad right now, so can't confirm that.)
I'm an automatic buyer in that zone, with hedges (increased) on a decisive break below there.
Please remember puts (and bear spreads) are cheap, throwaway insurance for peace of mind.

I have to confess that I take some pleasure in knowing that everyone else is also in the dark. I hate feeling like the powerful have all the inside info.

CM looks dumb here, teasing its customers with photos, hints, and the rest. "Loss of face" means less in China today, and they're about to lose even more if they have to refund advance payments on preorders, absent a deal with Apple in the next 3-4 weeks.

The reporter from the wall street journal that wrote that a deal was "SIGNED" two weeks ago, should have been already fired, or should definitely be fired now. I'm so sick of how bad journalists are and how they are never held responsible for false reporting.

The WSJ is no better than the bloggers now, or it just revealed what some of us have long suspected, doing Wall Street's work.

Let's hope that was the low of the day.
Lack of confirmed dates bodes well for 2nd and 3rd quarters. Looks like it will be a gradual rollout of their 4g network. The preorder effort is and attempt to stop the bleeding until they do get the iPhone.
January can't come fast enough.

Now we get to see two real negotiators get down to the short strokes. If I didn't have money in the game, this would be a pleasure to watch.
Apple and China Mobile both want the deal....but who wants it more?

Both the screen grab and WSJ's so-called phone call which confirmed the official launch of iPhone on Dec 16th seemed a bit weak to be true.

Apple's motto of knowing when to say No even when saying Yes would be so easy, applies to business management as well as product development.
TC and company will patiently wait until all pieces are in place. Time is an issue for CM more then Apple.
I think the deal is done, but negotiating the release dates and number of iPhones in the first few weeks are still a fluid process.

Even if it's not announced today...I find it hard to believe there isn't a deal already. Why else would China Mobile offer reservations for the iPhone on their own site? This whole thing makes no sense...I could understand if China Mobile was some 10 person startup, but this is ridiculous.

And pessimists can also make their case with this if that is their inclination. All can agree that it makes no sense.
