It's getting real good in here. Someone pass the goddamned popcorn!
The hedge from yesterday eases my pain.

It's getting real good in here. Someone pass the goddamned popcorn! The hedge from yesterday eases my pain. Same here, but the reaction is hardly worthy of the so-called "delay" and the underlying mammoth quarter underway in the other 123 countries and attendant carriers selling the Iphone and Ipad. Bought a few February 540/560 BCS when we hit 539.

China Mobile: No iPhone deal with Apple today By Philip Elmer-DeWitt December 18, 2013: 8:19 AM ET Apple shares were down sharply in early trading Wednesday. FORTUNE -- "Around" Dec. 18 was when China Mobile (CHL) and Apple (AAPL) were to announce their iPhone distribution deal, according to the Wall Street Journal.
But it's not happening -- at least not on Dec. 18 -- and Apple's shares took a $10 (1.8%) hit in early trading Wednesday.
According to Reuters and the New York Times, Xi Guohua, the chairman of the world's largest mobile phone carrier, told reporters Wednesday morning that his company had no announcement to make on any deal to carry Apple's smartphones.
UPDATE: According to Lorraine Luk, the Journal reporter who had that scoop two weeks ago, China Mobile is still being "coy" about its plans to sell the iPhone. Meanwhile, the International Business Times' Sophia Song reports that by Thursday (Chinese time), about 68,000 people had made online reservations for the iPhone, despite the lack of an official announcement.
"There is little reason for concern, however," she adds, "as a China Mobile official, who requested anonymity, said the big picture of the cooperation between the Chinese carrier and the American electronics giant has been settled, and only details are still under negotiation."

Keep me posted on that big boy... While you (and others here) are apparently enjoying AAPL going down, go ahead and tell us all how AAPL would have remained at yesterday's close and not gone up a penny, had Apple officially announced a China Mobile deal today. You can also tell us how this "priced in" ~$13/share (AAPL's drop today) correlates to the value of roughly 13 million extra iPhones sold. I'd really like to hear that analysis of how AAPL is worth $1 per million iPhones sold. Might as well give us your target price for the day CM is finally announced while you are at it, Nostradamus. Or do you just snark-troll in single sentences? Say what you want about my curmudgeon reputation, but I never take delight in other Apple long investors losing money. Not even you or Appledoc.

Limit order for 1/2 a block filled @ 539.50. Small re-entry after this "oversell the no deal" bull.

An interesting quote in the WSJ piece:
“China Mobile is trying to rally other smartphone makers to make more 4G handsets compatible with its network. So it would not be appropriate to announce the iPhone deal during the global partner conference,” said Diana Wu, an analyst at Capital Securities.

It's hardly a catastrophic selloff .... short term shenanigans for those who choose to play.
Let's all relax a bit ...

Sounds about par for a massive, sprawling government-controlled corporation. The short-term market reactions are but jet-ski wakes before a slow-moving battleship, which in turn is approaching a glacier (CHL).
I see no reason to crucify WSJ. With all the website ads we've seen, does anyone doubt that Lorraine Luk had a problem finding a China Mobile official to quote (accurately)? It sounds like within China Mobile is a bureaucratic cluster*uck, imagine the management hierarchy.....

JD (aka: dumb bunny) think CM was priced in ? No fucktard, this run-up started well below 540, and I think the full value of the China Mobile deal will push us over 700. Any other questions? Chance the Gardener: As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden. President "Bobby": In the garden. Chance the Gardener: Yes. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again. President "Bobby": Spring and summer. Chance the Gardener: Yes. President "Bobby": Then fall and winter. Chance the Gardener: Yes.

Calm down big boy. You seem to dish it out OK, but don't like feedback. You are not the prince you think you are.

As gap downs go, it could be worse.
As of now, it's a mighty-fine hammer candle forming (my take: means selling is overdone, hence the reversal off the 538-ish lows). Let's see what the next 90 mins brings.

It sounds like within China Mobile is a bureaucratic cluster*uck, imagine the management hierarchy..... Four China Mobile regional offices/divisions already showed their cards. One of them's Beijing (the flagship), the other one that had to cover its tracks is a tiny city by the name of Shanghai. Before I go and pass judgment on reporters I'll just sit back and watch for now. The pivots are underway, and with each step they get harder to reverse.

Hopefully nobody trades on anything anyone posts here. What is the purpose of this board then? Keep posting doc. I don't think we'll see sub-500 soon but different perspectives are helpful. I preferred your count taking us down to 540ish. That one seems to be in play.

We don't know what the internal structure of china mobile regions is like - the regional offices could have been operating under the same hopeful rumors that this board was, putting out their own marketing materials and pricing pre-emptively in the hopes of staunching the customer bleed, but with no real information from the mother ship.
Viewing the inconsistencies from office to office certainly makes me think they had no guidance from above. That ugly gold apple logo that one region was using is definitely not something apple would have approved or provided.

CM is a little _too_ decentralized methinks, based on their not-exactly-uniform advertising across the regional pages. Yes, 750M subs, but also 30+ different websites. "ElderPhone" was...different.

China Mobile Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Zhejiang all still show iPhone 5S.
Two of the other CM regional websites are offering the 5S as a raffle/potential drawing prize of some kind, if Google Translate is mostly accurate.
One of the regional websites has iPhone 5 or so chilling (literally) in a rotating splash page image with other smartphones...no context.
It's...decentralized. ;D

70,000 brave souls in Beijing pre-purchased the 5S so far. Wonder if that counter will get to 100k.

But with the sites still accepting preorders and still hinting strongly...come on.

Refresher for those who "dare" to navigate CM's network of sites:
Beijing - you guys already know this one
Inner Mongolia - nm prefix
Zhejiang - zj prefix

Well, it's an interesting situation Red.
TD-LTE is "live" but the goal is 16 cities by 2013 (granted, many of 'em are probably major cities), and up to 340 the following year. I can see why the new "And" brand isn't all over the place yet. The network isn't!
How many LTE phones will CM sell without much of an LTE network to start?
This isn't a network that's really ready for "prime time", though each major metropolitan area that gets TD-LTE signal will cause a massive boost in subscriber coverage. I read an article from yesterday that said 100 major markets = half a billion population coverage. Sounds legit, considering how "a little" LTE covers a bunch of people in the US.
